One of the biggest problems among couples is the inability of one or both to fall asleep or stay asleep. It may sound trivial, but if you can not get a full night of sleep, nothing else will work out. Your job performance will go downhill, your social skills will start to degrade, you will become irritated with each other, and in general just not get along very well. People will try everything to sleep. They take drugs such as serotonin, melatonin, or even pharmaceuticals, they exercise in the morning or at night, they take walks, they read books – but nothing seems to work. Sometimes, however, couples miss out on some of the most obvious solution. A simple sleep mask, combined with some earplugs, can do wonders to help you live with a partner who is a restless midnight riser.

Not every sleep eye mask is the same. It took me and my girlfriend quite a while to finally get it right. I wake up in the middle of the night all the time, and it used to drive her crazy. It seemed like, almost every day, I would wake her up when I was getting up to go to the bathroom, read a book, or get a midnight snack.. When we got a sleep mask, however, things began to change. The first one we used was just a bandanna. It blocked out the light adequately, but it wasn’t very comfortable. She said that it was a little bit too scratchy, and it didn’t stay in place very well. The next one we got was too heavy although it was soft. Finally, we found the perfect sleeping mask. It was made out of a lightweight cotton covered with a dark, light blocking coating. It was whisper soft, featherlight, and as comfortable as a dream. She get to sleep immediately – with the aid of some ear plugs.

When I have to wear sleep masks, I have different tastes altogether. I like a sleep mask that feels substantial. Something heavy but soft on your eyes can actually be quite comforting. Lightweight sleeping masks can slip around, causing you to accidentally see the light. With a heavy one, however, you can be sure that it will stay in place all night. The most important thing, however, is to see what works for you. I have never seen a sleep mask that costs more than 10 dollars, so you can definitely afford to experiment a little bit. Once you find the right solution, you’ll be glad that you took the time. After all, there is nothing more precious than a good Nights rest.

Before reading this article, please check the following questions.

- Are you a snorer? Does your snoring wake up yourself or other people ?
- Do you ever wake up suddenly, often choking or gasping for air?
- Do you feel extremely sleepy during the day and do you have difficulty staying awake to complete a task or even when you are driving?
- Do you have dry mouth, headaches, sore throat when waking up from a sleep?

If you answer YES to all these questions, then there is a strong possibility you have the sleep disorder apnea. Sleep apnea is a deadly sleep disorder that gets worse as you grow older. Not only does sleep apnea cause you sleep deprivation, but worse, it can be dangerous.
Anyone can have sleep apnea. According to recent statistics, at least 12 million Americans suffer from sleep apnea. A majority of those suffering from sleep apnea are overweight and snore heavily.

What are the symptoms of sleep apnea?
- Snoring loudly and regularly;
- Overweight;
- Suffering from high-blood pressure;
- Have small airways sized in the nose, mouth, and throat; and
- Has at least one family member that is suffering or has suffered from apnea.

Others signs may include:
- Morning headaches
- Learning or memory problems
- Feeling irritable
- Mood swings or changes in personality
- At night, frequent urination

This sleep disorder affects more men than women. Out of 25 middle-aged males, one suffers from sleep apnea while only one out of 50 women suffers from it. Based on statistics, sleep apnea occurs more commonly in Americans of African descent, Hispanics, and those living in the Pacific Islands. If your family has a sleep apnea case, there is a possibility of others. Sleep apnea also occurs with children, with its most common symptom being snoring.

How could you diagnose if you have sleep apnea?
These are some ways to help specialists know if you have sleep apnea.
- Checking your medical history, including asking you, your family, how you sleep and and officemates on how you work.
- Examining if you have large or extra tissues in your mouth, throat, or nose.
- Recording your sleep to check your breathing pattern.

How could you be treated for sleep apnea?
The goal in treating your sleep apnea is to restore back your regular breathing during the night and solving symptoms such as loud snoring and sleepiness during the day.
If you suffer from a mild case, some changes in your daily habits or activities could lead to the treatment.
- Stay away from alcoholic beverages, sleep-inducing medications, and smoking.
- Try to shed off some pounds if your weight borders on the plus side.
- Instead of sleeping on your back, try sleeping sideways.

People who have cases that are severe or even moderate should try these treatments:
- Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP)
The most frequent treatment for moderate and severe sleep apnea cases, CPAP allows you to have the right amount of airway pressure in your mouth to keep the throat open as you sleep. If not used correctly or abruptly stopped, your disorder will come back.
Ask your doctor for any possible effects from using CPAP.

- Mouthpiece
A mouthpiece or an oral appliance may prove to be useful to those who have mild cases of sleep apnea. A customized mouthpiece will keep your throat airways open as you sleep. Just check with your orthodontist or dentists if you might suffer from side effects. Make sure that the mouthpiece fits.

- Surgery
In some cases, surgery is the ultimate solution. Your doctor will discuss the nature of the surgery and if there are possible health repercussion after you have completed the surgery.

Currently, there are no medications that could treat sleep apnea. But with the help of medical specialists, and the above pocedures solving your sleep apnea could be attainable.

Rest is what we need to let our stress subside. No matter when you rest it will calms your body and mind.

There are several ways that we can reduce our stress level and improve our sleep habits. Just like love and marriage, relaxation and sleep go hand in hand; you cannot have one without the other. That is why it is important to address and change the unwanted stressors in our lives, or at least modify them.

Participating in fun activities in our leisure time compensates for unpleasant stress we experience at work, or in other areas of our lives. A good way of getting rest and reducing long-term stress is to take up an enjoyable hobby and/or sport. Some noncompetitive sports or hobbies, such as, reading, seeing a movie or socializing with friends can help reduce stress. Vacations are also a good outlet for relaxation.

On average, people need eight hours of sleep a night. If you regularly sleep for less than this, then the chances are that your levels of concentration and effectiveness will go down, although the amount of sleep tends to change as we get older. As your energy declines, you become less proactive, reducing your control over certain events. Then when you find yourself in a difficult situation it can be more stressful and harder to control. It is essential that you get enough sleep.

Once you do get a proper amount of sleep you will be surprised at how sharp and energetic you feel. By managing your sleep and by finding productive ways to reduce your stress, you will discover that your overall mental and physical health will benefit.
