(please visit http://divine-thought.blogspot.com/ for more details )
The most popular form of worshipping Lord Shiva in Hinduism is in the Linga form. It is known as Shivling or Shivalinga. The Linga symbol is an attempt to give form to the formless, referred as Supreme Being or Brahman in Hindu religion. When a Linga is installed on a Yoni, it represents the union of Shiva and Shakti -- the beginning of creation.

Linga in Sanskrit means symbol or sign. One of the first uses of the term 'linga' in association with Shiva is found in the Shvetasvatara Upanishad -- it says that Lord Shiva, the Supreme Being, has no linga (sign or symbol). In simple terms, it is impossible to define Brahman or that is alinga.

Now it is not possible for a common man to pray to Brahman which is beyond any characteristic. Human beings need a form to worship. In Sanatana Dharma, each individual has the freedom to define the Supreme Being or Brahman in the most convenient way he/ she is comfortable.

When our ancestors stood in crude nature, what bewildered him most would have been the regenerative method -- his own and those of animals around him. This must also have been the time when he was looking to give an expression to the Supreme Power. It is only natural that the male reproductive organ appeared to him as the ideal symbol as it represented strength and regenerative power.

The worship of Linga is not exclusive to Hinduism. Menhirs and Phallus have been worshipped by many ancient societies.

Therefore, one should constantly and incessantly chant the Hare Krishna Maha Mantra.

The meaning of the beautiful kriti is as follows :

"O lokabhiRama! won't you come and protect me? You are acclaimed as the benefactor of all creation from the tiny ant to the trinity. Charmer of mankind. You fascinate and lure us. Have you at any time found me seeking money from any quarter whatsoever, to lead and indolent, artificial life of pomp and luxury? Have i been roaming about, bloated with haughtiness and indulging in sinister, unscrupulous acts? o sitarama worshipped by tyagaraja!"

Sung by my mother Gunnikuntla Krishna Prasad, Recorded in the year 1977. I Just converted the song to make the song available across continents via youtube. Thank you for listening and please subscribe this channel for more beautiful songs...
Song meaning :

The meaning of the beautiful kriti is as follows :

"O lokabhiRama! won't you come and protect me? You are acclaimed as the benefactor of all creation from the tiny ant to the trinity. Charmer of mankind. You fascinate and lure us. Have you at any time found me seeking money from any quarter whatsoever, to lead and indolent, artificial life of pomp and luxury? Have i been roaming about, bloated with haughtiness and indulging in sinister, unscrupulous acts? o sitarama worshipped by tyagaraja!"

Rama Navami also known as Sri Rama Navami or Sri Rama Navratra, which is a Hindu festival, celebrating the birth of Lord Rama.

The Ramayan is a masterpiece of Divine Love to Sri Ram. Throughout the verses of the Ramayan, the learned find knowledge, the singers get celestial music, the writers revel in rich poetry and the righteous, a storehouse of Dharma. In this respect the Ramayan is a repository of all sarva-mangala without parallel.

Here, my mind is humbly reverting to Sri Hari as Sri Ram, beautifully described by Saint Tulsidas (AD 1532-1623) in his magnum opus Sri Ramcharitmanas. Mother Kaushalya's devotion to Lord Hari was unique in that she wished in her previous birth that Lord Hari be born to her as her son. That was the great benefit that she derived. And when Lord Hari indeed appeared, He came with shankha, chakra, gada, padma in his four arms. That was stunning to her. Immediately Kaushalya went into raptures and started singing hymns to Him. The most funniest thing she felt was that Sri Hari, being birthless, eternal and all pervading was in her womb all these days! This very incomprehensibility of Lord getting a birth for her sake would even shake the steady minds of munis, she wonders!

Lord Hari, the ever compassionate and merciful 'appearing' as baby Ram...

But she would rather have the Lord as her baby and therefore she prays to Him with both hands folded. "O Lord! Vedas say that you are beyond maya, attributes and knowledge and that the whole universe in all its manifestations resides in your body. Who would ever believe that such as you, resided in my womb for nine months? Please O Lord, give up this appearance and become a newborn child, because that is what will give me infinite joy." And then the Lord, the King of the divine kingdom, smiled, became a baby and started to cry in the lap of mother. Tulsidas in the last line of this lovely piece says that whosoever sings this passage, would be liberated from this world and will never be reborn.

Every devotee is precious to the Lord, and He is ever ready to help us succeed.
Every Hindu home must have a copy of the Ramayan, and regular reading of this sacred Book will enable us to emulate the exemplary and immaculate lives of Sri Ram, Mother Sita, Hanumanji and a host of bright and wonderful characters found in this gem of our scriptures.

So, dear devotees, on this very auspicious Day of Sri Ram Navami, let us all take a resolve to cultivate faith and love for our dear Lord Ram. Did not our Master say over and over again that "The One who became Rama and Krishna, has now come into this case (showing his body)"? May all who are tuned to our Master be Blessed with spiritual love and enlightenment!

In this entire journey of life -- our merciful Master is with us, eager to help when we stumble, forgive us when we make mistake, and encourage us when we falter.

Swami Saradaprabhanandaji also joins me in wishing everyone of you, abundance of love and healthy life.

'Shri Rama Jeyam! Shri Rama Jeyam!' I ceaselessly chant
The joy that oozes makes me rant
My Lord is there in my heart for sure
There is not anything that, He cannot cure

Like a king in his palace, in my heart, He stands
Even the pettiest of wishes, in an order, He grants
My eyes waver towards women, He never asks why
Yet, His loving presence in my heart makes me shy

Chanting Shri Rama Jeyam, not a minute goes waste
My heart smiles like a kid, who relishes a chocolate's taste!

Anyone, who reads it with true faith on Goddess Lakshmi, he/she will get enough money to run his/her life properly. You will never feel lack of money then as the Goddess Mahalakshmi will bestow her blessings on you. It is said that Jagadguru Shankracharya had made the goddess to rain of money in terms of gold and other precious stones.

NOTE: Everyone has to remember that never be arrogant if you have money. Help the poor and needy people. Respect girl-child. Donate for humanity. You will be successful.

Story
Sri Adi Shankara was a great saint, an avatara purusha, who lived in India around 8th- 9th century AD. He was not only a great scholar and a jnani (Self-Realized soul), but also a great bhakta (devotee) of the Lord.

The story goes that one day, he went begging for his food as was the custom, and arrived at the hut of a very poor Brahmin woman. The woman had no food at home except an Amla fruit (gooseberry), and she gave this to Adi Shankara. He was so overwhelmed by her generosity and so moved by her poverty that he extemporaneously composed and sang the Kanakadhara Stotram in front of the woman's hut.

This prayer instantly invoked the Goddess Mahalakshmi, who rained down a shower of gold coins and golden fruits for the woman. Each piece of gold was shaped like a gooseberry.

Reciting this prayer is said to eliminate poverty, but I don't think it's that simple. I think the key factor in this miracle was the kindness of the woman-- she didn't have the heart to send away a hungry little boy emptyhanded, so she gave him the only food she had.
Such a simple thing to do, but how many of us could do it?

Apparently, the woman's descendants still live in the place where this miracle took place, in the town of Kaladi, Kerala. Kaladi is also Adi Shankara's birthplace.

These 21 slokas on Goddess Mahalakshmi came to be known as the Kanakadhara stotram. These slokas are a testimony to the fact that God is always pleased when we serve or deeply yearn to serve a true sadhu!

Sri Andal, one of the twelve Alwars and the only female saintess, lived in the first half of 8th century A.D. at Srivilliputhur near Madurai.

Andal was a treasure-trove infant, obtained in the Tulasi garden, in the premises of the temple of Sri Vatapatra Sai. Perialwar, her father, found her while tending the garden and brought her up as an adopted child.

Andal grew up in holy surroundings, worshipping the Deity and listening to holy discourses, Vedas, Epics, Bhajans, Keerthans, etc., From childhood onwards she listened to the Leelas (pranks) of Krishna with rapt attention and developed a deep love to the Lord.

Andal helped her father in weaving flower garlands to offer to the temple Deity every day. One morning, Perialwar observed her wearing and adorning herself with the flower-garland intended for the Deity and herself looking into a mirror and enjoying . He considered this as an act of sacrilege and, with great anguish, failed to offer the garland to the Deity on that day. The Lord appeared in his dream and informed him that He relished only the garland worn by Godai and that in future flower garlands worn by Godai alone be offered to Him.

Perialwar realised the divinity in Godai, and from thence she was reputed as "Andal" (one who ruled Bhagwan) and "Choodi Kodutha Nachiar" (patroness who would offer flowers after adorning herself). It became a routine for Andal to wear the flower garland prior to offering to the Deity.

LOVE FOR KRISHNA

As Andal grew up, day by day, her love for Krishna also increased and she resolved to marry Him.

When Andal attained adolescence, Vishnuchittar was amazed at her conviction to marry Krishna. She was advised to observe Margali Bath rituals, which was a custom of yore for marriageable girls to have choice husbands.

Andal imagined herself as a cow-girl at the time of Sri Krishna, collecting all girls at Ayarpadi at dawn during the Margali month, day after day performing the ritual on the banks of the river Yamuna and bathing the Deity. This procedure, expressed lucidly in thirty Hymns, awakening her mates and proceeding to the river-bed, with Bhajan and Keerthan and to bath the Deity, is the topic of Tiruppavai.

Apart form Tiruppavai , Andal also sung 143 Hymns in Nachiar Tirumozhi in which her expression of intense love to Krishna, in varying moods of bridal love--tender hope, utter dejection, joyful triumph, woeful sorrow and total surrender are depicted.

Andal concluded that Lord Krishna was none else than the Deity of Sri Rangam--Lord Ranganatha-- and chose Him as her Consort.

DIVINE WEDDING

Lord Ranganatha bade Perialwar in a dream to bring Andal to Sri Rangam in bridal decoration. A palanquin, duly decorated, was sent from the Sri Rangam temple, as instructed by the Lord in a dream to the temple chief.

King Vallaba Deva made elaborate arrangements, decorated the procession route and greeted Andal with music and other paraphernalia of a Divine wedding. People cheered; King Vallaba also joined the bridal party.

Andal proceeded inside the sanctum sanctorum of the temple and became one with the Lord, as she worshipped the Lotus Feet of Him. To the astonishment and wonder of the people assembled, Andal's physical body merged with the Deity, Lord Ranganatha.

It may appear in the beginning that Andal is intending to perform a particular religious vow to marry the Lord
and thereby obtain His Everlasting Company, and that she is inviting all her girl friends to join her.It is only towards the end of TIRUPPAVAI that we learn that she
did not actually go to any pond or river or perform
a religious rite; SHE IS ACTUALLY PRAYING TO BE GRANTED
THE SERVICE OF THE LORD FOR ALL ETERNITY.It is the
Soul's inner craving to redeem itself and to reach
His Divine Nearness in order to serve him (" Attaani-
cchevagam" as her father PERIYAZHWAR calls it) which
        forms the real purport of this poem.</content><link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=deRO_i9qTJA&amp;feature=youtube_gdata'/><link rel='http://gdata.youtube.com/schemas/2007#video.related' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://gdata.youtube.com/feeds/api/videos/deRO_i9qTJA/related'/><link rel='http://gdata.youtube.com/schemas/2007#mobile' type='text/html' href='http://m.youtube.com/details?v=deRO_i9qTJA'/><link rel='related' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://gdata.youtube.com/feeds/api/videos/deRO_i9qTJA'/><link rel='self' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://gdata.youtube.com/feeds/api/playlists/PLT3RnGCeN34DQGT7ehguw564uuGjSCxiB/PL9UE-EYBDNKZaA75TAYQXpzpAVYK4cg7oZASBmOnkGOU'/><author><name>gsvfilmspicsvids</name><uri>http://gdata.youtube.com/feeds/api/users/gsvfilmspicsvids</uri></author><gd:comments><gd:feedLink rel='http://gdata.youtube.com/schemas/2007#comments' href='http://gdata.youtube.com/feeds/api/videos/deRO_i9qTJA/comments' countHint='1'/></gd:comments><yt:hd/><media:group><media:category label='Film &amp; Animation' scheme='http://gdata.youtube.com/schemas/2007/categories.cat'>Film</media:category><media:content url='http://www.youtube.com/v/deRO_i9qTJA?version=3&amp;f=playlists&amp;app=youtube_gdata' type='application/x-shockwave-flash' medium='video' isDefault='true' expression='full' duration='1650' yt:format='5'/><media:content url='rtsp://r3---sn-5hn7su7k.c.youtube.com/CiULENy73wIaHAmQTGov_k7kdRMYDSANFEgGUglwbGF5bGlzdHMM/0/0/0/video.3gp' type='video/3gpp' medium='video' expression='full' duration='1650' yt:format='1'/><media:content url='rtsp://r3---sn-5hn7su7k.c.youtube.com/CiULENy73wIaHAmQTGov_k7kdRMYESARFEgGUglwbGF5bGlzdHMM/0/0/0/video.3gp' type='video/3gpp' medium='video' expression='full' duration='1650' yt:format='6'/><media:description type='plain'>INTRODUCTION
