<p>Even though The X-Files: I Want to Believe is slated as the sequel to the 1998 film, it is easily a standalone movie, despite the relations to the TV series. Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) is a doctor and is no longer an agent. However, Agent Mosley Drummy (Xzibit) finds her in the hospital in order to have her find Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) to assist the FBI to find a lost agent. Back at home, Scully persuades an unshaven Mulder to help the FBI since the FBI will put the case against Mulder behind if he is willing to help. Though Mulder is hesitant at first, he decides to help at last.</p>
<p>The entire movie is about searching for the lost FBI agent who is kidnapped by some Russian mobs. Disappointingly, there is no alien involvement in the movie. Amanda Peet plays Assistant Special Agent in Charge Dakota Whitney in the movie and she is easily overshadowed by the existence of Gillian Anderson as Dana Scully despite the little involvement the latter has. Most of the time, Scully plays a surgeon and her objective is to save her patient while Mulder uncovers the mystery behind the crime.</p>
<p>Mulder believes Father Joseph Crissman who is a psychic as well as a convicted paedophile of seven children. On the other hand, Scully has high doubt on what the Father says and so do the rest of the FBI including Agent Mosley Drummy.</p>
<p>Skinner (Mitch Pileggi) makes a surprise appearance in the end when Scully has no one to turn to. Skinner and Scully help save Mulder and the three of them manage to solve the case of the missing FBI agent.</p>
<p>Overall, I want to believe the movie can be a lot better, but that’s not the truth. Sadly, I believe even The X-Files fan will feel truly disappointed at the movie — mundane plot, predictable scenes and nothing suspenseful.</p>
<p>My ratings: 4 out of 10.</p>

<p>The movie begins with a scene in the Imperial Court of the Han Dynasty in AD 208 where the Prime Minister Cao Cao (Zhang Fengyi) requests Emperor Xian’s permission to start a war against the warlords Liu Bei and Sun Quan in southern China, whom he perceived to be rebels against the Han Dynasty. He manages to get the Emperor to issue a decree for permission to launch an attack against Liu Bei who has fled southwards and Sun Quan.</p>
<p>Cao Cao’s strong forces of army easily conquers the southern lands while Liu Bei has abandoned the city of Xinye and is leading his army and the civilians. Unfortunately, Cao Cao’s calvary manages to catch up with Liu Bei (You Yong) and the great battle of Changban ensues. Zhang Fei, sworn brother of Liu Bei, has personally led a small group of soldiers armed with reflective shields to hold off the enemy in order to buy time for the civilians to escape. As the enemy soldiers approached, Zhang’s troops used their shields to reflect sunlight into the eyes of the enemy’s horses, creating chaos and seizing the opportunity to strike back.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, Zhao Yun (Hu Jun) desperately searches for Liu Bei’s wives and son, whom were separated amidst the chaos. Zhao Yun found Lady Mi, who was desperately trying to protect the infant Liu Shan from being captured by enemy soldiers. She was severely wounded and committed suicide by jumping into a well after entrusting Liu Shan to Zhao Yun. Zhao Yun manages to bring Liu Shan back to Liu Bei after fighting off many soldiers.</p>
<p>At the same time, Zhuge Liang (Takeshi Kaneshiro), Liu Bei’s chief advisor, managed to bring Guan Yu, sworn brother of Liu Bei, to assist Zhang Fei. Zhao Yun, Zhang Fei and Guan Yu bravely held off the enemy until the last group of civilians has evacuated. Guan Yu stayed on alone to hold off the enemy and was surrounded by several enemy soldiers. In his last attempt, he throws his halberd towards Cao Cao, barely missing the latter by an inch. Later, Cao Cao decides to let Guan Yu off, saying that Guan Yu could have killed him earlier but decided to spare him.</p>
<p>After the battle at Changban, Zhuge Liang set forth for Wu on a diplomatic mission to negotiate for an alliance between Liu Bei and Sun Quan (Chang Chen). Sun Quan was in the midst of a dilemma, unsure whether to oppose Cao Cao or surrender. While, his advisers have been desperately trying to persuade him to surrender, his military officers, on the other hand are advocating war. Zhuge Liang urges Sun Quan to form the alliance with Liu Bei against Cao Cao, but Sun Quan replies that he needed more time to think about it. Lu Su then brings Zhuge Liang to meet Wu’s great viceroy and chief commander of Wu’s army Zhou Yu (Tony Leung Chiu-Wai). </p>
<p>Although the discussion with Zhou Yu about war is brief, both of them manage to express their thoughts through music. Zhou Yu’s music shows that he wants to start a war while Zhuge Liang’s music indicates that he needs a friend.</p>
<p>Meanwhile in Cao Cao’s camp, he has recruited two new generals named Cai Mao and Zhang Yun, both of whom were surrendered generals and well-versed in naval warfare. Cao Cao finally expresses his desire to possess the beautiful Xiao Qiao (Lin Chi-Ling), the wife of Viceroy Zhou Yu. After having much thoughts, Sun Quan has finally made up his mind to form an alliance with Liu Bei and declare war against Cao Cao.</p>
<p>The alliance of Sun Quan and Liu Bei has managed to defeat Cao Cao’s army in the first battle after Sun Shangxiang (Zhao Wei) manages to lure Cao Cao’s army into Zhuge Liang’s "Ba Gua" (the Eight Stratagems Formation). While Cao Cao has learnt of the defeat, he shows no disappointment at all. At the same time, the allied forces are celebrating their victory.</p>
<p>Zhou Yu and Zhuge Liang has another discussion on the new plan to combat Cao Cao’s forces. Zhou Yu stated that Cao Cao’s next move was still unclear although they have scored a victory against Cao Cao’s vanguard army. Zhou Yu then says to Zhuge Liang that he has hoped they would not become enemies in the future, and if that is so, they would each serve their respective lords. Zhuge Liang then send a pigeon to scout Cao Cao’s army and discover the enemy’s formation. The film ends with Zhou Yu lighting his minatured-sized ships on a map based on the battle formation with a torch.</p>
<p>The film continues in the second episode which is slated to release in January 2009, which will make the entire sage at least four hours long. The movie will be shortened to a total of 2 and a half hour for showing outside Asia.</p>
<p>Overall, John Woo manages to weave his magic again on this epic Chinese movie. With brilliant war strategies to the great fighting scenes, Red Cliff is an extraordinary film that really depicts the epic battle of Red Cliff.</p>
<p>My ratings: 7 out of 10.</p>

The Dark Knight, one of the most anticipated movie in 2008, starts off with the Joker masterminds a bank robbery. The Joker has plotted to have his henchmen killing off each other so the other will get a larger part. But in the end, the Joker gets all the money and drives a school bus away with all that cash.</p>
<p>Next, there is a group of mobsters meet up with the Scarcrow but their meeting falls short with imitation Batmen with guns foiling the party. The real Batman turns up to stop the fake Batmen as well as the mobs and leaves them all tied up before the cops arrive.</p>
<p>Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) is a new district attorney who is trying very hard to wipe out all the mobs that plague Gotham City. His assistant, Rachel Dawes (Maggie Gyllenhaal) is also his girlfriend. While Lieutenant James Gordon (Gary Oldman) is a very determined and one of the last few uncorrupted cops remain.</p>
<p>Lau (Chin Han) is a Chinese business mogul who heads the foreign mobsters. At a meeting through video conferencing, he lets the mob leaders know he’s taking their money to Hong Kong to protect them from the lieutenant and the district attorney. The Joker interrupts the mobsters meeting and ends up having the mob leaders hiring the Joker for half of the entire sum to kill Batman.</p>
<p>Batman, meanwhile, flies to Hong Kong with Lucius Fox (Morgan Freeman) in order to capture Lau. Edison Chen appears briefly as LSI VP at the entrance when Lucius first enters the building in order to plant a mobile phone at the security deck.</p>
<p>With Lau back in Gotham City, the cops manage to get Lau to reveal the names of all the mobs. Harvey manages to bring all these criminals to jails for at least 18 months. Meanwhile, Joker tells Gotham City that if the Batman doesn’t unmask and turn himself in he will kill innocent people everyday. As a result of the Batman not turning himself the first victims are a major judge and the police commissioner.</p>
<p>Joker’s next victim is Harvey Dent but since it’s at a fund raiser built by Bruce Wayne, Bruce manages to save Harvey and Rachel. After that, Lieutenant James Gordon is killed saving the mayor of Gotham by the Joker himself at the memorial of the murdered judge.</p>
<p>As a result of Gordon’s death Bruce determines that he will reveal himself and as Batman tells Dent to call for a press conference. At the conference Dent claims to be Batman himself and is arrested. While being transported the Joker and his gang attack the police vehicles in order to kill Dent. Batman shows up to thwart the attack and ends up having his Batmobile totally immobilized, which ejects a Batpod, a newer version of Batcycle. Running after the Joker with his Batpod, Batman manage to flip the Joker’s tractor trailer. When the Joker stands face to face with Batman on the road, at the very last second, Batman brakes his Batpod since he don’t kill criminals and ends up knocked out in the crash. When the Joker tries to kill Batman, Lieutenant James Gordon steps out of nowhere and arrests the Joker and is immediately promoted to Commissioner by the mayor.</p>
<p>With the Joker in custody, Gordon and Batman interrogate the Joker when he reveals that he and the mobs have taken Rachel and Dent to opposite sides of the city. He forces Batman to choose either one and the other one will die.</p>
<p>Batman beats the hell out of Joker in order to get him to reveal two locations before he speeds off to save Rachel while Gordon and the police are off to save Dent. Dent and Rachel wake up tied to chairs with barrels of oil surrounding them and a speaker phone hooked up both locations. A few seconds before the bombs are suppose to go off Batman arrives but finds Harvey Dent at the location he thought Rachel was to be at. He drags Harvey out of the building right before it explodes but Harvey’s face is badly burned due to the oil spilled onto one part of this face. Lieutenant Gordon shows up at Rachel’s location just in time but the explosiong goes off Rachel dies in the explosion.</p>
<p>In the hospital Harvey is driven to madness over the lose of Rachel. One part of his face is badly burnt, he begins to adopt the nickname Two-Face and refuses any skin surgery. When one of Wayne Corps employees discovers the money being shifted to help fund Batman and his role, he goes public on a evening talk show but is cut by the Joker who said that if someone doesn’t kill the employee in 60 minutes he will blow up a hospital. While the new commissioner is evacuating the hospitals Batman tries to locate the Joker, who shows up dressed as a nurse with a red wig at the hospital room of Harvey Dent. He says he wasn’t responsible for the kidnapping and murder of Rachel and that it was the mob and James Gordon’s corrupted cops. He unties Harvey and gives him a gun to start his payback. After Harvey leaves the Joker blows up Gotham General Hospital. While Harvey begins to confront everyone who has a part in causing Rachel’s death. He flips his coin in order to determine the fate of his victim and has killed five men including two cops along the way.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, the Joker declares that he will rule the streets and that anyone left in Gotham will be subject to him and what he does. He tells people they can leave now but that he’ll have a surprise for them in the tunnel and on the bridge. As a result most people falls into his trap by leaving via two ferries that the Joker has loaded with bombs. In hopes of showing everyone how evil and corrupted they can be he gives the detonators to the bombs to the other ship or if they don’t the Joker will blow up both ships by midnight. One ship is full of criminals and the other is loaded with civilians. The civilians vote to blow up the criminals boat while the criminals don’t do anything at all. As time goes on one man on the civilians boat can forward to volunteer himself to blow up the other ship to kill the criminals; on the criminals boat one criminal steps forward takes the detonator and throws it out the window instead. Batman and Gordon manage to locate the Joker and see that he has a bus load of hostages from the hospital. Batman discovers that the people in the clown masks are actually the hostages with unloaded guns tapped to their hands and that the people dress as doctors are the actual criminals. Batman takes on both the criminals and SWAT teams to save the hostages. In his final fight with the Joker both fight to the ledge of an unfinished skyscraper where Batman stops the Joker from blowing up the two ferries and throws the Joker over the side. The Joker laughs all the way down until Batman saves him at the last moment. The Joker acknowledges that Batman really is incorruptible but that his “white knight” Harvey Dent isn’t that he’s unleashed him on the city.</p>
<p>Batman then goes to the place where Rachel was killed to find James Gordon and his family there with Harvey Dent. Harvey wants Gordon to pay for the death of Rachel. Harvey shots Batman and is about to kill Gordon’s son when Batman knocks him over the side of the building while saving Gordon’s son. Harvey falls to his death. Unable to hold on any longer Batman falls as well. Gordon goes down to check on Batman and discuss that the Joker really wins if anyone find out about Harvey and the five people he’s killed. To prevent the further decline in the the city of Gotham, Batman voluntarily tells Gordon that Batman will be held responsible for the five deaths and that the police will be on the hunt for Batman. The movie closes with the Batman getting away.</p>
<p>Overall, <a href="http://www.yowazzup.com/tag/the-dark-knight">The Dark Knight</a> is definitely the best superhero film in 2008. Well scripted and full of actions, the best part in my opinion is the clever plots the Joker set up in order to put Gotham City in chaos. In the memory of Heath Ledger, you have played the best Joker ever, possibly the best villain ever.</p>

<p>“The babies are doing well. The operation went just perfectly,” Dr. Michel Sussmann said on Sunday. “Angelina is in very good spirits. Brad Pitt was at her side. He was there and all was well.”</p>
<p>Sussmann confirmed the Nice-Matin newspaper report that Jolie gave birth to a boy, Knox Leon, and a girl, Vivienne Marcheline, by Cesarean section on Saturday night. Knox weighed 5.03 lbs, and Vivienne 5 lbs.</p>
<p>The twins are the fifth and sixth children for Jolie and partner Brad Pitt, who are already parents to Maddox, Pax, Zahara and Shiloh.</p>

<p>John Woo was at GSC, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur for the premiere of Red Cliff last Friday, July 11, 2008, together with actors Chang Chen, Lin Chi-Ling and Zhang Fengyi.</p>
<p>“We were devastated by the incident, but at the same time we were also very touched by the help offered by the doctors, nurses, the army and the public who saved thousands of lives,” said Woo at a press conference here.</p>
<p>Red Cliff, which is based on the famous Romance of the Three Kingdoms, will come in two parts — the first part will open in cinemas on July 17 and the second part in early 2009. However, countries outside Asia will get a single, two-and-a-half-hour version.</p>

<p>Trevor (Brendan Fraser) is a volcanologist and a professor in a university. He has completely forgotten about Sean coming to spend ten days with him. When Sean’s mother drops him off, Trevor is totally unprepared and his house is in a complete mess. Sean is a 13-year-old teenager who’s into PSP, Google and the likes, so Trevor and Sean don’t seem to get along in the beginning.</p>
<p>Before Sean’s mom leaves, she passes Trevor with a box of items that belonged to Max, Trevor’s brother and Sean’s father, who went missing years before. Suddenly, Sean takes interest in what Trevor has to say after he tells him about his father, whom he never really had a chance to know. Trevor tells Sean that yoyo is his father’s PSP. Trevor also finds a novel Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne with notes written by Max. Trevor and Sean quickly go to his laboratory only to discover a new seismometer reading which has led them to Iceland. Although Trevor intends to send Sean back to his mother, Sean relents and Trevor has no choice but to bring him along.</p>
<p>In Iceland, Trevor and Sean look for another volcanologist only to find he has passed away 3 years ago. His daughter, Hannah (Anita Briem) invites them into the house and they talk about the book by Jules Verne. Hannah refers the believer of the book as "Vernian", in which she says unlike her father, she is not a Vernian. However, she offers to be Trevor and Sean’s mountain guide for a hefty price. While hiking, Trevor refuses to heed Hannah’s warning of possible lightning strike as he is trying to pull out his seismometer. When it’s nearly too late, Trevor lets go of his instrument and they are trapped in a cave after the lightning hits the rocks and the rocks cover the entrance of the cave.</p>
<p>Trevor and Hannah decides to find another way out while Sean insists on digging the rocks. While finding the way out, Trevor, Sean and Hannah fall into a deep pit which takes them to the center of the Earth. What happen next includes discovering of glowing birds, gigantic man-eating plants, man-eating fish, Loch Ness monsters and T-Rex.</p>
<p>Basically, the movie is purposely made in 3D and it is the best to watch in a 3D theaters, otherwise, the movie would seem to be another dull and boring movie.</p>
<p>My ratings: 6 out of 10.</p>

<p>The movie begins with a bedtime story told by human dad when Hellboy was still a kid. The father tells a tale of the Golden Army which consists of 70 times 70 indestructible robots which equal 4,900 indestructible robots which were made by a goblin during a war between the human and the elves for King Balor (Roy Dotrice). When the Golden Army had crushed many humans to death in a battle, the king decides to part the crown which control the Golden Army to three pieces — one given to the human, the other kept by him and the last piece by his daughter, Princess Nuala (Anna Walton).</p>
<p>Back to the future, there is an ongoing auction in New York of antiques. One of the items is one part of the precious crown. Without wasting any time, Prince Nuada (Luke Goss) and his servant, Mr. Wink (Brian Steele) intrude the auction house and kill every human in there by letting go thousands of tooth fairies. It was known that the tooth fairies consume anything from calcium to bones, meats and of course, teeth!</p>
<p>When Hellboy and his aquatic friend, Abe Sapiens (Doug Jones) along with his pyrokinetic girlfriend Liz Sherman (Selma Blair) reaches the auction house, no surviving humans are left, instead the tooth fairies hide themselves before launching relentless attack at the members BPRD and manage to consume at least two men from BPRD.</p>
<p>Back in the fantasy world, Prince Nuada defies his father’s truce between humanity and the invisible realm by saying he wants to claim back Earth, and in order to do that he needs all the three pieces of the crown. He takes no time and slaughter his dad to gather at least two pieces of the total three. Before Prince Nuada finishes off the king, the princess has already fled the scene with the last piece of the precious crown only to be followed by Abe Sapiens into a secret building, not knowing that Mr. Wink, Prince Nuada’s faithful servant is following behind.</p>
<p>During a fierce battle between Hellboy and Mr. Wink, Mr. Wink ends up being dragged into a giant oven of fire when his mechanical hand is stucked as he attempts to punch Hellboy. While the next monster is a gigantic Forest Elemental which is nearly ten-story tall, it provides little resistance to Hellboy who easily kill the creature with his gun.</p>
<p>Even the fighting scene between the Golden Army and Hellboy is quite brief albeit entertaining, Hellboy II is more of a fantasy film rather than an action-packed movie in which the first Hellboy movie is. Perhaps, the main focus in this film is not the impressive visual effects nor the limited action scenes, but it is the development of the character Hellboy. During the fight against the elemental, Hellboy was questioned by Prince Nuada. If he kills the creature, he would be killing the last of its kind — a dilemma which only ended when Johann Krauss (John Alexander, voiced by Seth MacFarlane) notwithstandingly commands Hellboy to finish off the creature. In the last part of the movie, Liz Sherman is faced with a dilemma of whether to let Hellboy lives or let him die after the Angel of Death tells her that Hellboy would be dangerous to mankind as his mission is to destroy Earth in the near future. She embraces her dilemma too quickly and does not hesitate to choose Hellboy over Earth despite the warning.</p>
<p>Overall, it is a great film though it may lack many elements for the demanding audiences. Mind you though, Hellboy II is more than just a fantasy film as director, Guillermo del Toro has put in many thoughts to make the movie more real than any other comic book adapted movies.</p>
<p>My ratings: 8 out of 10.</p>
