The flickr integration is awesome, i have found a all new way to share images with my family and friends, All i have to do is login to jumpcut, import the flickr album (yea its called album on jumpcut) and create a video of the flickr photo stream with really cool titles,background music,video effects and sequence

My initial euphoria was little subdued when i realized that the flickr titles are not automatically inserted in the video of the photstream, it would have been a killer feature IMO

Anyways, Here take a look at the two photo video stream (what’s that ? ) that i created today

Six mobile phone operators in Asia have agreed to use Yahoo’s oneSearch mobile search engine.The operators are Globe Telecom (Philippines), Idea Cellular (India), LG Telecom (South Korea), Maxis Communications (Malaysia), PT Telekomunikasi Selular (Indonesia) and Taiwan Mobile (you guessed it, Taiwan). Together, they have nearly 100 million subscribers.

[ I wanted to write about this long time back, but somehow i could only make time for it now]

Its an old story by now, Yahoo! has released a web version of its popular instant messenger, Yahoo! Web Messenger, I really like Y! Web IM, the one feature (which i really wanted for a long time) that made me shift from the bulky desktop client was the ability to store my conversations online and look it up anywhere.

It requires Flash 9 to be installed for your browser.
Not long before the Web IM was launched, my Yahoo! Mail Beta mail client got the instant messenger feature integrated to it, this too was very useful for me since i keep my mail box open most of the time. This Feature requires Flash 7 installed for your browser
As i started to use the Mail IM, it became very obvious that it is there only to chat quickly and convert the conversation into a mail, The chat conversation by default is not saved anywhere and cannot be looked up if you do not create a mail out of the conversation.

Also it must be noted here that you can login from only one place (application), either it is your desktop client/gaim(pidgin) or Web IM or Mail IM

This is very surprising and annoying that the mail messenger conversations are not and cannot be stored online along with the Web IM, this interoperability  would have been really cool.

I have my reasons why i think this must be integrated into one storage system online.

Sometime back, i was in Chennai, I stayed there in a hotel which had desktop clients for internet access, Now the first thing i did when i wanted to catch up with friends and family was to open web.im, Bang there was this error which said i needed Flash 9, i thought what the heck let me install it, but Bang again i had no administrative privileges to do that, i asked the hotel guys and they did not know what i was talking about, apparently the service and maintenance of the systems were outsourced and it was 9 PM and no one could be contacted to get this fixed, No sweat i thought and promptly logged into my Y! mail, changed my Chat Status to Available and Bang i was online, I could see my friends and colleagues online, I pinged some of them and some did reply, there were as many as 7 chat conversations, now to save them all i had to create a mail out of it and send it to myself, since few of them were something i wanted to remember or refer back.

This was the time i thought why can’t Web IM and Mail IM storage be integrated, how difficult it is to provide a chats folder in the mail with stored chat conversations from Web IM and Mail IM, It seems like a obvious feature to me

Adsense usually has a title, a smart description and the target host name/url for each ad it displays, but then the host name/url was missing for some ads in that section, on a closer look, I figured out that it was a ad from google’s own property.

This is definitely a intentional act by Google to avoid showing itself competing against other advertisers in the contextual advertisements too. (Check this similar Adwords issue)

To my utter surprise, This is  what i see in the “Also Try” section.

I  have read some where that “Also try” is not only automated generation,but is also tweaked by editors. I have no idea how many people are searching for “sanjaya malakar gay” query on Y! Search, but to me this definitely has racial angle to it and Yahoo! Search “Also try” feature is adding to it.

On a search engine i rarely ever look at the sponsored links at the top and right corner, when i am logining to Yahoo! Mail, I never bother what pic is currently running my entire focus is on the textboxes.

Now when i see something different as this,i will take notice.

definitely this ad got my attention. not for its content/relevancy but for simple changes in the color combinations.

My brain is trained to ignore light blue background ads from Google and Yahoo! and not the one above.

I am sure its something that google is testing to attract more eye balls and it looks like it is working,at least it did on me

“Imitation is the Best Form of Flattery”, I now know the true meaning of this line

Wondering what i am talking about ? Some time today Google has started showing a eye catching link on there mobile search home page (http://www.google.com/xhtml)

I Followed the link, what i saw left me shocked and surprised at the same time

Where are the Web, Images,Local and Mobile Web radio buttons gone ??

Now take a look at the SRP.

I think the “Dare to Compare” hit them pretty hard, so much that they have released a product which resembles Y! oneSearch.
