Gulai Daun Singkong

Alkisah kemarin ke supermarket mau nyari sayur hijau karena stok di rumah uda habis. Eh tumbenan banget ada daun singkong. Murah meriah pula. Berhubung suami emang doyan gulai daun singkong (saya uda googling resepnya dari jaman kapan tau, tapi susah nyari daun singkongnya), jadi ya saya beli deh. Pas pulang baru liat-liat lagi resepnya di internet, wah ada beberapa bahan bumbu yang ga punya nih. Tapi yaudalah, uda niat masak ini, ya masak aja. Toh sebagian besar masih ada bahannya. Jadi nekatlah saya bikin juga. Jadi ini resepnya uda saya modif sedemikian rupa, biar sesuai sama isi dapur saya ya. hahaha :p

Bahan :
Daun singkong 1 ikat (gatau deh itu berapa gram)
80 ml Santan kental (saya pakai Kara)
5 lembar daun salam
500-700ml air
Garam
Merica
Gula

Bumbu halus:
5 siung bawang putih
4 siung bawang merah (karena udah ga punya lagi. Kalau masih punya lagi sih pengennya pakai 6 siung)
1 ruang jari jahe
1 ruas jari kunyit
3 cabe merah keriting (atau 2 cabe merah besar)
1/2 sdm ketumbar (kalau saya sih disangrai dl lalu ditumbuk, baru dicampur ke yg lain)
5 buah kemiri sangrai

Yang harusnya pakai tapi saya ga punya:
1 batang sereh ; ambil bagian putihnya saja
2 ruas jari lengkuas, geprek
ikan teri

Cara masak :
- Rebus daun singkong + 1 sdt garam sampai benar-benar empuk (saya pakai panci biasa, api besar, 45 menit sudah lumayan empuk. Cara ceknya: ambil sebagian daunnya, coba tekan-tekan pakai tangan. Kalau masih liat, lanjutin rebus lagi. Tapi kayaknya sih kalo lebih empuk lg lebih enak. Mungkin kalau pakai presto bisa lebih cepat dan cihuy)
- Sambil nunggu daun singkongnya empuk, sambil siapin bumbu halusnya. Masukan semua bahan bumbu halus ke blender, tambahkan sedikit air, blender sampai halus. Kalau masih kurang halus, tambahkan air lagi sedikit, baru blender lagi.
- Kalau daun singkongnya uda cukup empuk, buang airnya, kemudian bilas pakai air biasa, aduk-aduk pakai tangan supaya sisa kelebihan garamnya hilang. Kemudian buang airnya.
- Remas-remas daun singkongnya supaya airnya keluar semua. Nanti jadinya cuma sekepalan tangan doank daunnya. Lalu potong-potong sekitar 1cm.
- Di panci lain, tumis bumbu halus + daun salam (kalau ada sereh dan lengkuas juga sekalian ditumis) dengan kira-kira 2sdm minyak goreng sampai warnanya berubah, ga pucat lagi. Masukan daun singkong dan air (kira-kira 400-500ml aja, gausa terlalu banyak airnya). Masak sampai mendidih.
- Masukan garam, gula, merica. Aduk.
- Masukan santan. Masak sampai mendidih. Aduk sesekali saja.
- Koreksi rasa. Matikan api.

Jadi deeeeeeh! Yay! Kata mama saya sih lebih enak lagi kalau pakai ikan teri. Tapi ya apa daya ga punya. hehe

Bolu Kukus Ketan Hitam (Steamed Black Sticky Rice Cake)

Ceritanya nih saya seumur-umur belum pernah bikin kue pakai tepung ketan. Jadi penasaran pengen coba bikin. Akhirnya kemarin pas ke supermarket, sekalianlah beli tepung ketan hitam. Saya uda research dulu sebelumnya. Ternyata bikin bolu kukus ketan hitam ini gampang keliatannya. Resepnya saya comot dari google aja. Nemu di cookpad, saya pilih salah satu, yang keliatannya meyakinkan, trs sok2an kutak katik dikit. (#sokjago)

Ini resepnya :

250 gr tepung ketan hitam

180 gr gula pasir

5 butir telur ayam ukuran sedang (suhu ruangan)

1 sdt ovalet/sp

1/2 sdt garam halus (jangan pakai yg kasar, nanti ga larut)

200 ml minyak sayur

1 sdm susu kental manis

Cara bikin:

- Olesi loyang dengan minyak (loyangnya terserah ukuran berapa, yg penting muat aja di dandang :p ; Saya pake ukuran 16cm bulat, jadinya lumayan tinggi kuenya)

- Panaskan dandangnya. Pastikan airnya cukup banyak ya, ga lucu kalau di tengah kukus kehabisan air. hihihi

- Kocok telur + gula + ovalet/sp + garam sampai mengembang dan warnanya jadi pucat (kurang lebih 7-8 menit dengan speed tinggi)

- Masukan tepung ketan hitamnya sedikit demi sedikit

- Masukan minyak dan susu kental manis

- Kukus kurang lebih 45 menit. Jangan lupa tes tusuk pakai sapu lidi atau tusuk gigi dulu ya.

Dari siapin bahan sampai selesai kukus, kurang lebih 1 jam doank. Cepet kaaaan. hehe.

Hello Readers! I'm back!! *pasang kembang api*

Well, emang udah lama banget saya ga ngeblog dikarenakan satu dan lain hal. Tp bukan berarti lupa sama blog kesayangan loh. Buktinya ini saya balik ngeblog lagi. hihi (doain aja biar rajin nge-update ya :p)
Ini ceritanya emang dasar jiwa ngerumpi, jadi tiap nemuin resep kece atau tempat bagus atau apapun, langsung kepengen ngeblog dan berbagi info sama orang lain, siapa tau ada yg butuh. Tp apa daya, waktu dan tenaga tak ada. Nah ini makanya mumpung lagi sempet, yoweslah mari kita ngeblog lagi.

Namun karena ada beberapa perubahan kondisi dan kehidupan (ceileeeeh..), jadinya kayaknya uda ga bakal bahas restaurant review banyak-banyak lagi deh. Soalnya sekarang uda jadi ibu rumah tangga, jd banyakan masak di rumah, cobain resep-resep (yang banyakan nemu di internet juga sih sebenernya).hahaha. Terus, sejak tahun lalu, saya uda ga terima invitation dari restaurant2 lagi, soalnya susah juga atur waktunya. Kalau invitationnya weekend, saya maunya weekend itu bareng family, jalan santai kek, atau cuma goler-goler di rumah. Atau anterin kue pesenan orang (saya punya online cake shop loh. Ayo monggo dipesan ya :p www.mokue.com). Ga mau lagi repot-repot pergi jauh-jauh (hari Sabtu Jakarta macetnya luar biasa banget), yang ujung-ujungnya nyampenya juga telat (saking macetnya), dan ga ada waktu buat ngepostnya. Merasa bersalah banget. T.T

Now that I am married, mungkin I will post a review about my vendors (semoga ga males), semoga aja infonya bermanfaat buat yang membaca yaaa. :)

#Magnoffee : Fun Way to Have Coffee

Heyho, people! I’m back! No, not because I’m not busy enough, but because I have something to share with you, and I couldn’t keep it myself for a longer time. :p
What’s that? Hint: It’s something to do with Magnum.

Who doesn’t know Magnum? It is a legendary ice cream in the world. Started with a single variant: vanilla, now they’re expanding a lot. Since the first booming Magnum Cafe few years ago, the hype wasn't stop right there. Magnum still making further steps, which lead to more enjoyment. YAY!

I'm not a vanilla nor coffee person. But when it comes to Magnum and Coffee, this is where my exception begins. The first time I met Cikopi in Magnum Café (Grand Indonesia) few weeks ago, he told me a lot of coffee thingy. Made me come to a question “If you want to have a cup of coffee, then why you are here? Magnum Café is a place for ice cream, not for coffee.” , and warmly he answered “Ah, you must be haven’t tried Magnofee. Try one!”. Then I got myself a mini Vanilla Magnum and a cup of coffee. OMG! Now I can say I’m a coffee person! :p

I remember how I couldn't stand of coffee. Black and bitter. Thanks to Magnum who ~~invented~~ giving me the idea of #Magnoffee. So what is this #Magnoffee thing? Glad that you asked.

#Magnoffee is the latest trend brought up by Magnum, simply by putting Magnum ice cream into coffee. You can use any flavor of Magnum (mini Magnum is highly suggested) and any kind of coffee. Well, it looks like Affogato, but this one is even better. Perfect for afternoon coffee time, working company, dessert, just hanging out with friends or family, and any other casual occasions.

Talking about the direction, nobody can say. I mean, like, everybody has their own way to do anything. And so about this one. Magnofee totally have no rule. You can have it your way. For example, my sister loves to put Magnum Vanilla into hot black coffee, and then she stirs it around using the stick, until some of ice cream melted. In the other hand, I prefer to crush the Magnum inside the packaging, then pour it all into the coffee. My friend love to use Brownie Magnum for her caffe latte. Need extra topping? You may add cinnamon or sugar or any stuff suits you well. I love grated dark chocolate, and my aunty loves grated ginger.

Having Magnoffee is so fun. I’ve done few experiments until now, and still keep counting. What about you? Make you own creation now!

Cuca : The Real Gem in Jimbaran

Happy Belated New Year, hungry people! This is my first post in 2014. One of my resolutions is to post more often then 2013. Wish me luck. :p

Have I told you that I went to Bali last October? I'm pretty sure I did it on this post. Now I'd like to share another good food in Bali; Cuca.

They opened in August 2013, just exactly on Eid Mubarak day. But I heard their name way before it. Apparently they prepared the dishes, ingredients, concept, and whatsoever from far far ago. Good to know. I was more than excited to try, I even booked my table before I departed from Jakarta. lol :p

Located in Jl. Patih Jelantik, near Intercontinental Hotel, the place wasn't in the main street, but there's a signage so you won't miss it. Thanks to my driver who drove me along to all of places I wanted to go in Bali with all his patience. (His name is Pak Kadek, his number is 62-819 9910 0879. He is very kind and sincere. I definitely will hire him if I happen to go to Bali again). Cuca have 3 parts of seating place: garden (it didn't have beach view but very lovely on sunset), dining area (private area, suitable for dating, family dinner, or any occasion that need more privacy), and kitchen bar (very suitable for people like who loves to watch the chef doing his attraction). I chose kitchen bar!

I came with 3 of my empty-tummy-friends, but since it was our last night in Bali and we still had one eating place to go that night, so we managed to order 3 tapas (small dishes/appetizer) and 3 drinks. FYI, Cuca only serves tapas, so there is no main course. The waiter said it took approx 3-4 portion to make someone full.

Welcome Dish

While waiting for our order, the friendly waiter served us the welcome dish. Don't know how to call it, the texture was similar with cotton. The flavor came from powder spice. Kevin, the head chef and founder, said it had Ayam Betutu flavor. And he created the recipe by himself! Cool. I even amazed from the first dish.

Crispy Fried Chicken (IDR 60K)

First dish appeared so tempting. Came with an outstanding presentation, it wasn't hard for me to take a good picture of it. Crispy Fried Chicken. Even from the name, you could tell what's in it. Yes, it's chicken. But Cuca successfully put an extra touch that made the dish unforgettable to me. With a hint of wild honey, sesame dust, lemon basil, and served with coleslaw, the chicken was crunchy outside and juicy inside. Well seasoning was definitely their plus point.

Roasted Tiger Prawns (IDR 90K)

Roasted Tiger Prawns brought me to in the middle of love and hate. Love it because the outstanding taste. Hate it because I need some more by now that I'm drooling while writing this. I can tell you the tiger prawn was all fresh because I could taste it. Came with deep fried eggplant as topping and light coconut broth successfully highlight the season.

Free Range Chicken Puddle ( IDR 58K)

Well, I'm Asian, I eat rice. I was curious what would happen to Indonesian red rice in Chef Kevin's hand. And it turned out very well. Free Range Chicken Puddle came as a luxurious result with a high rated taste. Broth was nice, a little thick and savory. The red rice was very fine, felt like less fiber-ish, very enjoyable. The chicken was cut into diamond cut, cooked into perfection. Well done.

Monkey Business (IDR 65K)

When it comes to dessert, I will never miss it. Monkey Business is a bowl of baby banana pudding baptized in caramel look-a-like sauce that made from whiskey butterscotch, with espresso gelato. Am not a big fan of banana, but this one was an exception! The best sweet bitter alcoholic dessert I ever had. :)

Cocoa 8 (IDR 80K)

From the first sight, I knew my heart would fall for this one. The idea of mint choco flying in my head. And I was right. The combination of warm dark choco mousse with homemade mint ice cream (yes, it was homemade and the taste was no joke, way better than the one sold in supermarket. How cool is that?) and chocolate croutons was incredibly the best! OMG. As a chocolate lover, am so proud and happy. Chocolate and mint will never go wrong, right?

Bali Breakfast (IDR 65K)

It was not a breakfast menu, it's dessert. Called as Bali Breakfast because of the look. Hmm.. What is that? Let me explain. The 'yolk' in the middle was mango puree that tasted sweet and runny. The 'white part' was whipped coconut which tasted light, creamy, and went super duper well with the mango. This was the best dessert of the day. Never thought coconut and mango could make a pretty result. I will definitely came back for Bali Breakfast. *big grin*

Sun-Gria Mocktail (IDR 60K)

Besides the outstanding dishes, Cuca also has outstanding beverages. Sun-Gria came in an extraordinary appearance. They replace ice cubes with watermelon ice cubes. Since I ordered the mocktail, not cocktail, they used watermelon juice. There should be red wine if you order cocktail one. Yes, this is one of the best thing here, every cocktail had mocktail version. Suitable for a person who cannot drink like me. Anyway, Sun-Gria Cocktail will cost you IDR 90K.

Moo - Cocktail (IDR 90K)

I'm so familiar with chocolate milk. There's no day i spent without drinking one. Moo, was a chocolate milk I drank that day. But the difference was Moo got hazelnut liquor and vanilla brandy. Light and comforting, enough to got me a good sleep.

Blush - Mocktail (IDR 50K)

Just like the others, Blush also had mocktail - cocktail version. The cocktail version would cost you IDR 90K. Blush contain red watermelon juice with yellow watermelon ice. So refreshing. Cute appearance, right?

I extremely enjoyed my visit and definitely will come back as soon as I can. Nice ambience combined with good food. What else can I ask for more? The real gem hidden in Jimbaran, Bali. :)

The Smell of Yummy Christmas

Heyho Readers!

Lots of my firsts came in this year. Without noticing much, this year is nearly passed. A bitter sweet year of mine reminds me of a chocolate cake. It's dark, sweet, lovely, and makes me craving for more. :)
I also can't hide my excitements for next year. I've been planning tons of resolutions though. A little secret, I'm planning to resign from the company I'm working for. Hopefully I could create something better in future.

Marutama Ramen : The Rise of Japanese Ramen

Ramen shop is everywhere now. But I do remember, Marutama Ramen as the pioneer of authentic ramen shop in Jakarta. Last week I made a visit to their outlet in EX - Plaza Indonesia. I love the ambience; private, calm, and earthy. Even located among other shops in the middle of the building, they still have interesting view, which is bowling alley. So don’t worry if you go alone, you still can watch people playing bowling and shout “wow” when they do strike. Never find a restaurant with this kind of view before.

Boiled Gyoza was my first dish. Gyoza is Japanese dumpling. Available in two choices: pork and chicken. You also can choose how you want it to be cooked; boiled or fried. The gyoza came with special house made sauce, made from vinegar and soy sauce. Tasted a little strange to me. The vinegar was too strong, ruined the gyoza’s natural charm. Maybe next time I’ll ask them to serve the sauce separately.

Second dish I tried was Tamago Ramen (IDR 66k). This is their new menu. Well, not literally new, but they just created a new package. Before, you could order Marutama Ramen with tamago (marinated half boiled egg). Now, because of a lot of request, they allow you to order Tamago Ramen, and get the exact dish. Fun fact: here you can have all you can eat noodle, as long as you still have the broth. Don’t worry, the ramen come in a big size. A little truth about the broth, it is chicken broth, made fresh everyday. The spoke person said they need 30 kilos of chicken bones and more than 5 hours to cook the delicious rich broth. This broth is used for all ramen and menu. They call it toripaitan. That’s what makes Marutama different with others. So if you don’t eat pork, you still can dine here and order chicken, because you are always allowed to choose chicken or pork for the topping. Not enough? You also may order for extra topping with extra charge too. Enough with the information. Now my turn to share my opinion. I loved it! The broth was so rich and thick with perfect amount of seasoning. It was the hero of the dish. The tamago was beautifully cooked. Need a whole night to marinate the egg before served to customer. The ramen itself was silky and perfectly boiled. I’m not surprised that it was a homemade ramen. Yes, they made the ramen in their main kitchen and distribute to all of their branches everyday.

Sizzling Brownie to Sizzle Your Sweettooth - Fat Burger

Among many burgers joint in Jakarta, Fat Burger successfully caught my eyes. Used to be located at 5^th floor of Plaza Indonesia, now they move into a new nicer place; LG floor, still in the same building. Fun fact: they have classic-look jukebox where you can order your favorite songs for FREE. Yes, it’s free! I tried to order some songs then happily ate my meal while listening. It’s fun.

Offering juicy meat and delicious big size burger, now they proudly present you a new dessert. I found it very creative and inspiring. Sizzling Brownie it is. From the name, you might guess it is a brownie in a hot plat. Then yes, you’re right. This is how they served the tempting Sizzling Brownie: a brownie on a hot plate and vanilla ice cream on top, with the chocolate sauce poured onto them so the sauce will sizzle all the way.

Felt like a sweet dream to me. The moist rich chocolate brownie with cold and milky vanilla ice cream plus melted chocolate sauce gave a superb sensation to my palate. My sweet teeth were truly entertained. For you who don’t like sweet, you might find it too sweet. But you like me, so you definitely love sweetness. See you around, sweet heart! ;)

Paradise Inn : The Paradise for Your Buds

Paradise Inn is a second line of Paradise Dynasty. Opened their first outlet in Indonesia at Plaza Indonesia. FYI, Paradise Inn is a franchise from Singapore, brought to Indonesia by Boga Group. The room is decorated with Chinese theme and traditional Chinese song played, felt like I was in Shanghai.

Chinese food is famous of its traditional spices that good for health. Traditional Double Boiled Chicken with Spare Ribs and Ginseng (Rp. 45.000/portion or Rp. 158.000/pot) was my choice as opening dish to tickle my buds. To be honest, I didn’t expect the dish to be super delicious because, well, you know, traditional spices usually taste strange. But out of my expectation, this dish was so tasty. The broth was so rich, made from chicken stock with double boiling way. First they boiled the stock, and then they steam it. That’s why the chicken and pork meat were so soft. Delish!

Traditional Double Boiled Chicken with Spare Ribs and Ginseng (Rp. 45.000/portion or Rp. 158.000/pot)

This wasn’t my first visit. I used to come with my family, and my mom always orders Hotplate Tofu with Preserved ‘Cai Xin’ and Minced Pork (Rp.48.000 for small size and Rp. 68.000 for medium size). I have to admit it also one of my favorite dishes in Paradise Inn (the other one is Imperial Pork Ribs). I loved the homemade tofu, so soft, mild and felt nice. Very easy to digest but solid enough to give a soft touch in your mouth. Ah, new idea. Someday if I get a toothache, I’ll eat Paradise Inn’s tofu instead of porridge. Lol. Anyway, the sauce went well with the tofu. Tasted savory and salty.

Who doesn’t like coconut pudding? Paradise Inn made their Coconut Pudding (Rp. 42.000) everyday from a real Thai coconut. Enough said, I had no doubt about this fact, the taste spoke itself. Lemongrass Jelly with Lemonade (Rp. 25.000) was also a good deal. Refresh my mind and belly, as if I’m ready again for another round. No, I’m kidding. I was full enough, but literally refreshed. Apparently lemonade is a good companion for a jelly. Nice touch.

I remember when Pancious opened their first outlet in Permata Hijau area was a big hip. Now they already have more 10 outlets in Jakarta, Bandung and Surabaya. I love the ambiance of Pancious' outlets. The decoration dominated with white and red, with sofas everywhere made the customers comfy. The place is perfect for all occasion from hang out with friends, dating, family gathering, or even a business meeting, maybe that's why Pancious is always crowded.

Blueberry Cheese Pancake (Rp. 43.500 for single and Rp. 62.500 for double). To be honest, I'm not a fan of vanilla ice cream. But this one was an exception. The homemade ice cream was milky yet light enough as a vanilla ice cream. The pancake wasn't too sweet. The blueberry cheese sauce was so good. Sweet and sour, mixed with milky vanilla ice cream to flavor up the pancake.

Blackpepper Meatball Pasta (Rp.65.000) was the highlight of that day. Served with creamy sauce, but tasted light enough that I could finish it all in less than 15 minutes. Homemade meatball was made from minced beef. A little too dry, but went well with the creamy sauce. Extra sausage was also a homemade and made the dish taste even better. A perfect shot of blackpepper made everyone can eat it.

My heart fallen for Fresh Fruit Ice Tea Cocktail (Rp. 52.000). Made from fresh mango juice and tea, with diamond cut strawberry, mango, apple, and kiwi. I think the drink was good as dessert too. Came in a huge glass bottle, the portion was enough for 2-4 persons.

If you notice, almost all the menu in Pancious are homemade and no preservatives or any other chemical thing. Glad to know it, and don't you wish to find other food taste like theirs. Other good thing is, they serve breakfast menu all day. :)

Nasi Ayam Bu Oki

On a vacation trip, it's a must to try local food, don't you agree? Suggested by the driver I hired for few days in Bali, after having fun at Tanjung Benoa, he took me to Nasi Ayam Bu Oki. I heard the name for quiet some times before. Ah, it's a famous thing.

Located near Santika Hotel Nusa Dua, the place looked so simple but never empty. People just kept coming even it already 2 hours passed from lunch time. The first thing the waiter asked was the level of spiciness. I ordered medium. Apparently they already had one set of dishes so you don't need to choose, but it also open for your preference.

Here is the picture of my plate.

Nasi Ayam Bu Oki

One set of dish consisted of rice, fried chicken, ayam suwir (pulled out chicken), lawar ( in Indonesian we called it as urap khas Bali. Basically, vegetables - usually bean sprout and long beans - mixed with shredded coconut), telur pindang (egg boiled with soy sauce stock), sate lilit (fish satay). I love the sate lilit that I ordered more. It costed me IDR 2K for 1 sate lilit. All the side dishes were so good, I finished them all in less than 10 minutes!

Cooked by native Bali, the dishes was rich of spice. Worth a try!

I was pretty amazed when I know we could eat alcohol (if you haven't read, you read my post here). Then I found out that we also could eat tea. Yes, tea. Amazing, right?

Apparently, using tea leaves for cooking is not something new. Chinese people usually use tea leaves as cooking ingredients. Chef Benson Fok, yes he's a chinese too, prepared some delicious tea-infused menus for you to try. Please welcome, Tea Wonders. This menu only available during September.

Corn and Crab Soup

Corn and crab soup wasn't part of Tea Wonders. But as it was a good dish to giggle my appetite, it was (actually) a good choice. So bad, due to my allergic to crab, I had no guts to try. Poor poor me.

Braised Bo Lei Duck

Ms. Agnes - manager of Shang Palace - said Bo Lei was a type of tea. Bo Lei had similar taste with Pu-Erh, but they're definitely different. To be honest, I'm not a big fan of duck, but I do eat one slice, so I tried one and........one more, and.......one more. This was one of the best duck dish I ever met. Nice sweet savory sauce, juicy and well cooked duck meat. Apparently the chef really knows how to cook duck.

Lamb Chop with Golden Phoenix Tea

Have I ever mentioned that I can't stand of lamb? If not, now you get it.
I tried for some times, but my sense of smell was just too strong. Nah, lets talk about this one. To be honest, it was well-spiced. I didn't know how the chef cook it, but he succeeded to reduce the lamb-smell. This dish came with scrambled white egg and yummy sauce. I guess there's a tea ingredient in the sauce. The scrambled white egg was magnificent. Absolutely love it. :)

Steamed Bai Ling Mushroom and Seafood with Rain Flower Tea Sauce

Steamed scallop and prawn plated with Bai Ling Mushroom was nice. I am a big fan of prawn, and prawn never goes wrong with anything. :p
The sauce was mild. Actually i was hoping for stronger sauce because the scallop-prawn-mushroom need to be highlighted.

Glutinous Rice and Fish Cooked with Yellow Treasure Flower

This dish looked similar with Lo Mai Kai, glutinous rice with meat that wrapped in lotus leaf. And I wasn't wrong. They tasted similar too. The difference was the presentation and additional ingredients. Lo Mai Kai didn't use bamboo bowl. Glutinous Rice and Fish Cooked with Yellow Treasure Flower had a 2x2cm piece of fish on the top. I assumed it was snapper fish. The glutinous rice was sticky and tasteful. I found little fiber appeared in the glutinous rice, and thought it was coconut until Mrs. Jajan asked the waiter and the waiter asked the chef and we found out that it was CRAB. Oh, crab! (As I told you I am allergic to crab)
The good news is there was no symptom of allergy later on. Fiuh. Am I crab-immuned already? Maybe I am. I was a little regret that I didn't eat the corn and crab soup. :p

Chef’s Special Stewed Pork Rib served with Chinese Bread

When I asked about what are their recommendation, Joris (Digital Marketing Manager) and Felicia (Marcom) said this stewed pork ribs, then we agreed to order. And none of us regret! The stewed pork ribs was soooooo tender and no pork-smell at all (that's my main consideration of ordering pork in a restaurant). The sauce was also perfect and joyful. So when I put the ribs' meat in the bread, it was heaven! (I'm drooling now)
Love the texture and taste combination. Good job chef! Hats off! ;)

Chilled Red Tea Jelly with Chinese Pear and Pipa

Back to Tea Wonders, here was the only dessert of the series. I watched how to make this pear in Masterchef US and was amazed and confuse at the same time. It's pretty hard for me.:p First you must peel the pear, then make a big hole in the middle where the seed and core are there. No worries, here you can enjoy the pear effortless. The dessert wasn't sweet, more in to plain and pipa taste. Good dessert to finish the dinner. To be honest, I didn't know what is pipa. But as we talked about it, the taste reminds us with one of cough syrup, and we assumed pipa was a kind of chinese herb that also used to make cough syrup. I did some small research and got some endorsement for our "theory". lol

Anyhow, the conclusion was this dessert was healthy. ;)

Psssttt.. they also have dimsum menu available everyday until 2.30pm, and all you can eat dimsum also available on weekend at IDR 188,000++. Will try that soon!

I admit that I have a huge sweet tooth. I love chocolate, cakes, candies, cookies, brownies, and other sweets. You have no idea how much glucose I consume every single day. But still, nothing can stop me. :p

Brownies has been a familiar food in Indonesia lately. For the last few years, it even been one of most hunted products in Bandung, created image of affordable and unexclusive. Finding 'serious brownies' is even harder than I thought. Glad that I found one. Lady Eve Pattiserie; founded just few months ago, committed to create a literally serious brownies. If you walk down the PIK area to have lunch or dinner or just hanging out, you sure have a lot of choices. Hundreds of restaurant approaching their potential customer with various ways; unique concept, unique food, unique design, etc.

Let me present you one of restaurant that catch my eyes; Hawaiian Bistro. Located in the corner, the good news is beside good food and good place, it also has good parking lot. Since PIK is not a place you can go without your own vehicle, parking lot become something very crucial. It seemed more vacant, even always be full every weekend, but still acceptable. Big YAY. :)

"How is Hawaiian food look like?", you might ask. According to the chef (who is a native Hawaiian), most of native people in Hawaii is Asian. That's why the food is much influenced by Asian. So don't be surprised if many rice ingredient in the Hawaiian recipe.

It was a sunny day. I wanted something simple and yet refreshing at the same time. My choice was perfect; Lychee Ice Tea. Based from some information I learnt lately, I could say they used black tea as the base, with lychee syrup as additional flavor. Love the presentation. Simple yet sweet.

Hot sun had burnt my energy. I needed food immediately. Hah! I got the answer to my prayer. Lolo Shrimp Wrap looked interesting. Remind me of my childhood favorite appetizer; deep fried sausage rolled with noodle. But this time is prawn; bigger and (look) more mature. :p

Getting bored with sushi roll with salmon? They have Spam Musubi (sushi rolled with spam). If you don't eat spam, don't you worry, they also have other choice: BBQ chicken and chicken katsu.

I believe you already familiar with popcorn chicken. If you love it, then you'll love this even more. Mahaka Mochiko Chicken is basically BBQ seasoned popcorn chicken.

Bistro Bento is my favorite of all, because it contained almost all the best dishes here. Spam, fried dory, BBQ fried chicken (this is sooo goood), and BBQ grill. Happy tummy, happy day. ;)

Loco Moco was one of the top dish. Rice woth hamburg beef and sunny side egg, plus brown gravy. Well-seasoned, perfect portion. My mom's fave. :)

Another star brought by Hawaiian Bistro: BBQ Mix. Thin sliced beef, pork, and chicken. Love the flavor and texture. I could lick the the plate until nothing left. If you don't eat pork, just tell the waiter and they will happily change the pork into chicken or beef.

Coffee Jelly was a nice closing of the lunch. Coffee jelly with vanilla ice cream and kahlua. I wasn't a big fan of coffee and vanilla. But this one was an exception. Fresh and sweet vanilla ice cream bumped along to bitter coffee jelly. Suprisingly, i loved it.

Who doesn't love shaved ice? Me not. Hot sunny day was a perfect reason to have a glassful shaved ice with ice cream and tutti frutti syrup.

Overall, I loved the food and ambiance. Price was definitely worth it. In fact, I've been coming back for some times. ;)

As I told you in the former post, Indonesia's online store in booming lately. This is one example of the new little baby born in this industry: Printemps (pronounce as "prangtong"). Offers cookies and pound cakes, made with the best salt in the world; Fleur de sel de Guerandec. The other competitive edge they have is their products. I found "Rose Petal Cookies" funny at first. I mean, we are used to have cookies with dairy or fruit taste. But flower? No, I never tried. Fortunately, dried rose in a cookie turned to be a nice-scented bite. The rose scent wasn't too strong, and I still tasted the butter-cookies-taste in it. My next favorite went to chocolate chips cookies! I know it's a usual product, but cookies always been my fave product. I've tried cookies from almost all cakery and bakery I found. Printemps had soft cookies, which (they claimed) crunchy outside and soft inside. Well, when the sample food came to me, the choco chip cookies wasn't crunchy at all. But no worries, I liked it anyway. Yes, i love soft baked cookies with a little gooey-ness. :)

Rujak Bebeg (Mashed Fruit Mix)

If you ever visit Jakarta, Rujak Bebeg is one of the 'must-try' items. Not only it can pamper my tongue, but also it is healthy. It's made from many kind of fresh fruits which mashed together, added with brown sugar, salt, terasi (fermented shrimp paste). What kind of fruits it contains, you may ask. Well, to be honest, it's up to the seller. The main fruits are bengkuang (yam bean), ubi (sweet potato), jambu air and kedondong. The rest is different between one and another seller.

Where can I find it?
The seller is nomaden. They move from one place to another place. So you cannot looking for them. You wait for them passing in front of you. The one in my images can be found around Green Garden area, West Jakarta.

How does it taste?
Sweetness from brown sugar combined with sourness of fresh fruits and spiciness from chili (adjustable).

Price?
It depends on the seller. This one is IDR 5K. I once found smaller portion with IDR 3.5K. (early 2013)

So when you find a Rujak Bebeg seller around you, do not hesitate to try. Go get a life! ;)

Otak-Otak Si Dia: Street Food No More

Indonesia is famous of its nature and delicacy. Located within 2 enormous oceans and 2 continents, made Indonesia much affected from outsiders, especially in field of culture and food. Otak-Otak is one of famous Indonesian food. Similar with Malaysian or Singaporean (they call it as Otah), even in Indonesia there are also many kind of otak-otak. The differences located in their recipe and ingredients. In Jakarta, we usually find otak-otak seller in hawker stall. Yup, otak-otak might be counted as Jakarta's street food. But lately, as I told you before, online-based business is hip, there is an online tenant whose sell otak-otak and do delivery to Jakarta area; Otak-Otak si Dia. Yes, a unique name it is. Delivered to me in a tidy and clean packaging, nice touch. :)

It came with 2 kind of dipping sauce: peanut sauce and vinegar chili. Peanut sauce was nice. Not too thick and not to spicy. Fit me well. The other sauce, which is vinegar chili was my fave. Gave me a different way to eat otak-otak. Even it's vinegar, it had only a glimpse of sour, and not spicy at all. I enjoyed it a lot.

With a price of IDR 4K/pcs, of course you can taste the difference with the cheaper one that you may find on the street. Definitely, Otak-Otak si Dia is made from high quality ingredients with perfect seasoning. Covered with banana leaves and grilled to perfection. I could tell you from the first bite, you'll taste the mackerel fish with perfect chewiness. Welcome to the new era of otak-otak! :p

Heyho, people! After a long blogwalking, my writing spirit has been awaken somehow. Thanks to my fellow foodies! :p

Kemang area is famous as hang out place for Jakartan youngsters. Many fancy restaurants built in here, offer their own uniqueness. Alcoholic Bar is one of them. Located a bit 'hidden', you may find it still in one complex with KOI Kemang.

I received invitation to try their new brunch menu with some fellow foodies.

My coming is well-welcomed with the first appetizer; Green Peas Cream Soup with Diced Pork (IDR 38K). IMHO, this was a good appetizer. The green peas puree wasn't too soft, still had some rough texture. Glad to hear that. If the texture was too soft, I guess it would look like a baby food.

Tasted a bit plain, but good enough to tickle my buds. Now I'm ready for bigger kick.

They served all the brunch menu with Italian Sparkling Wine. This was my first time having brunch with alcohol in it. lol.

I had a blissful brunch. I loved the food. My favorite was the Pork Ribs. I loved it. Heavenly well-marinated. Came in one plate with baked beans and chick peas. I loved them too. No, it's not canned baked beans. They made it themselves. Sweet enough and not tomato-sauce-ish.

They had 5 types of poached-egg-with-muffin (you may read them on the photo above). The differences between them was the topping only. Which one was the best? Depends on your taste. ;)

The poached egg was perfect. The yolk running out sexily covering the muffin and topping.

In the end, they served us Orange Martini/Champagne. I forgot what's that. The point is, it was orange alcohol, which I enjoyed a lot. It was my fave beverage that day. Light and refreshing.

The dessert was too serious for me. I always love light and fruity dessert. But I just can't stand the alcoholic dessert. Maybe I got too much alcohol that day (since I'm not an alcoholic person).

If you can't drink alcohol, don't worry. You still can eat the dishes. Alcohol material won't leave any alcohol effect after been cooked, but the exotic scent still remains in the dishes.

I heard there a restaurant in Jonggol, near Cibubur, West Java, which is located among natural charm. There I went. After fought against Jakarta's traffic and strayed for a while, I got there! Woohoo!

Breezy wind, splash of water, green green grass, and dance of goldfish in the water welcoming my coming. Made me forget Jakarta's crowd for a while. I love the place. Pretty clean for an outdoor restaurant. Carrying Sundanese theme restaurant, or we call it as lesehan, they offered authentic Indonesian food. Not too crowded, just plenty people come and having lunch, most of them came with family.

They had a quiet big place. People said Jatinunggal is very famous. They first opened in 1989 and never open a branch afterwards.

Gurame Goreng (Deep Fried Carp)

Everytime I order seafood, there's a piece of worry in me. I always afraid the food will be fishy. Fortunately, my worry was not proven. The carp was definitely fresh! A little oily, but still acceptable. I asked for half kilo carp for two persons.

Kangkung Hot Plate (Hot Plate Kale)

They was not only provide fresh fish, but also fresh vegetables! The kangkung came in a very big portion. More than enough for just two of us. :)
The only thing I could complain was it wasn't salty enough for me.

Sayur Asem

What's the meaning of having lunch in Indonesian restaurant without ordering Sayur Asem? I'm a big fan of Sayur Asem, and it's hard for me to find an outstanding Sayur Asem out there. (Pssstt... my mom's is still the best)
Here, they had a pretty good one. Just a little less bold than I expected. But the vegetables was good, balance of spices was also nice.

Coconut

The sunny day and breezing wind invited me to coconut. I forgot to ask for a young one. But they gave me what I wanted. *super big grin*
The coconut was nice, juicy and soft. Or in brief, it's young. :p
They put brown sugar into coconut water, and it wasn't too sweet. I loved it! :))

I don't know why they wrote goldfish whereas I ordered carp. They both worth the same though.

They have a big pond with a lot of goldfish. We can feed the goldfish with the fish food they sell. It's only 1K/pack. And when you throw the food into the pond, here's what happen to the fish! They jump, they gather, they swarm. Fun!

Overall, I like the place. So peace and quiet. I had fun and relax. So bad, too much energy to spend to go there. And now... I miss it already.

Tips: They had some big signage though to guide your way. But it's located in rural area so there's no clear address. Just asked the people around, they must be know the place.

Red Velvet cupcakes

Heyho, people! I am a huge sweet tooth. I love cakes, chocolates, candies, and other sweets. My prayer is I can eat all the yummy cakes in a cakery and not getting fat. Lol
Anyway, e-commerce and start-up business are booming lately. Online-based business has significant growth within last 2 years. Some of them using website to market the product/service, some of them still go with "simpler online basic" using social media. People may say the one with social-media-based-only is less serious, but hey, as they are business, not a book, so don't judge.

I found one little online cake shop that got compliment from many of my friends. And, apparently they're about to get some more from me. It is De Jaap Baking Co.

Tartlets (10K each)

Available in 3 varieties: Nutella with Toffee, Creamcheese with Blueberry, and Cream Banana with Cheese. My heart definitely fall for Nutella with Toffee! Ha!
The tartlets weren't too crisp, but a little soft. Yes, prefecto. It also not sweet, but more into plain, give balance to the sweet toppings. :)

Rumball (35K / package of 9 pcs)

Nah! This one is my favorite! I loved the rumball. Different from I usually find. The chocolate was so bold and rich. I prefer when it started to melt, so the texture became even softer. :9

butter cookies with filling (5K each)

Who doesn't love cookies? For me, cookies will never go wrong. One bite is never enough. ;)
Available in two varieties of fillings: Peanut Butter and Nutella. Really really really will never go wrong, right? :))

Red Velvet Cupcakes (10K each)

Well, i'm not a big fan of red velvet cake. I mean, yes, I love all kind of cakes, but red velvet, rainbow cake, or for instance, the cake using a lot of food coloring. But objectively, I would say this wasn't a disappointment. The perfect amount of sweetness, moist and nice texture.

I'm definitely want to try their other menu. I just never get enough sweet bites. :)

Sukhothai: Eat Till You Drop Authentic Thai

This is my first experience if All You Can Eat (AYCE) Thai Food. To be honest, when I heard AYCE, I didn't expect something outstanding. I was just hoping for many good food, not superb food. But wise people once said, "Put your hope higher, and your expectation lowest". And my hope was not a waste. I was impressed with the incredible dishes of the dinner.
I went home with a big smile on my face, forget about all dietary thingy. :p

Oops. Let me rewind my memories for you.

Our dinner started with a bowl of Thom Yam Thalay. Hot and sour soup with seafood, that's how they wrote it on the menu. Who doesn't know TomYam? Famous thai soup which always available at any Thai restaurant. A strong flavor of spiciness did surprise me at first. "Ah, ini sudah diadaptasikan dengan lidah Indonesia loh. Kalau di Thailand asli mah harus lebih pedas dari ini. (Ah, this flavor has been adapted to Indonesian taste. In Thailand, the level of spiciness must be way above this one.", Mr. Iqbal (Marketing Manager of The Media) said.

After some bribes, I was getting used to and started to enjoy the dish. And finally, it successfully kicked my appetite.

The next starter was with Pla Takrai. It's fried marinated fish with lemongrass and fresh herb. In Indonesian, we usually call it as "sate lilit". Actually I didn't know what kind of fish the use, but it tasted so goooood. *big grin*
Perfect seasoning in this dish succeeded to make me ask for more. Tender and delicate texture did indulge my taste buds. Both hands od Pla Takrai weren't enough.

Khao Pad Sapparot was pineapple fried rice. I found some uniqueness in a good way in this dish. Recording to Chef Sidik, the unique fragrance and taste came from the soy sauce he used. They imported it from Thai. IMHO, I loooove the dish. It was perfectly seasoned. Tasted savory with a little hint of sweet and sour from pineapple.

Phad Pho Taek (squid, fish and prawn stirred in Thai herb chilli). So bad it also contained crab, so I couldn't eat it due to my aleregic. But my friends said all the components were well-cooked. The prawn was fresh, even the squid wasn't too hard to chew. Pad Kana Kratiam was stir fried baby kailan.

Pla Sam Rod was deep fried fish with three flavors sauce. The deep fried fish was chrunchy outside but very soft inside, and wasn't smell fishy. Love the tangy sauce, nice balance of salty, spicy, and a hint of sour.

Kapraw Gai was stir fried minced chicken with thai basil. The dish wasn't the best of all, but it suceeded to hit top three. There was beef version of this dish, named Phad Kapraw Nuea. Similar taste, just different meat.

Recording to Mr. Iqbal (Marketing Manager of The Media), name "Sukhothai" is taken from an ancient kingdom in Northern Thailand. "Sukhothai" means dawn of happiness.
Chef Sidik, the executive chef in charge, is a humble and creative chef. I could say it just by tasting his dishes and ask him few questions. He's not a Thai, but he successfully cooks authentic Thai food. He also gave us some quick cooking trick. How generous he was.

I found a jaw-dropping fact during my visit. They had their cutlery brought directly from Thai. Made from copper. And yes, it's traditional Thai cutlery. How cool is that?

Taiyo Sushi: Another Fusion (Rock 'n) Roll - Openrice Gathering / Food Tasting

If you happened to Pluit Putra Raya, you might notice a big sign written "Taiyo Sushi" on the left side. Once closed for a period, now it's re-open with new look. Even the changes weren't not far from the former, to be honest I prefer the old one. Well, who cares about it anyway. Let's go to the dishes. It's more important. :p

I got the invitation from Openrice. So there were some of their staffs greeted me when I came in.
First dish was Chawan Mushi (12K), which was a very appropriate appetizer, just exactly what I expected. The chawan mushi has nice texture and perfect seasoning. Loved it!

Taiyo Sushi Roll (52K). Half baked salmon with cucumber and crunchy inside. I forgot how they called the crunchy for sushi. Whatever it was, it definitely win my heart. Mayo and cheese on top went really well. Pssstt.. this one was my favorite.

Tempura Maki Floss (22K) was a simpler roll. From the name, you might know what's in it. Yup, prawn tempura and floss. The prawn was perfectly cooked. I loved it too. Light and tasty. Let's call it as easy bites.

Aburi Mozarella Roll (56K). As I googled it, aburi sushi means sushi whose fish on top that is torched by flame in a glimpse, so the fish is partly grilled and partly raw. I don't eat raw food, but aburi sushi was an exception. I loved the grilled-smell sensation. Aburi Mozarella Roll had kani inside, and chicken floss and tobiko as topping. The mayo was only for decoration; had no impact.

Unagi Salmon Special (54K). Tasted similar with Aburi Mozarella Roll and Taiyo Sushi Roll. Perhaps because they had similar ingredients. But the ingredients were too strong that the unagi was almost undetectable.

Kare Pasta was their new menu. This dish contained fettucini and kare. The fettucini was overcooked for me. White sauce was a bit tasteless, but it's okay since kare was the hero of the dish. The Kare had pretty strong spices but still not sharp enough.

Overall I loved the dishes. They had lovely unique taste that you'll only find in here. They kept the uniqueness so hard that almost all the sushi taste the same. That's so bad.
I'll come back someday, anyway. :)
