Here is my list of 5 things that I tend to avoid on twitter:

1. Marketing bots

Do you do nothing but twitter about yourself – your e-books, your programs, your that, your this, and how people can purchase your stuff with special coupons? Whatever the case, if you do anything similar to those just mentioned, people will be less inclined to follow you. If you are promoting something and send a direct message about an awesome product that can get me thousands of followers, you should at least have thousands of followers, as well…just to prove your theory.

2. False link advertising

If you end up tweeting something similar to this: “read this comprehensive article regarding the best places you can find in Brazil” in a link that you send to others, it better have a list of great places that people can find in Brazil rather than links to adult websites, for instance. 

3. No variety

Tweeting the exact same stuff over and over again all day is sooo uncool. Although it may not have been exactly like this, someone sent a series of useless tweets: “Check out this shirt, look at this shirt, were you aware that a lot of people wear shirts?” Believe it or not, they were selling shirts.

4. Porn links

Seriously, the minute an adult site link is found within a tweet, you will get unfollowed – even if it clearly states that the link will send you to one. A lot of people simply aren’t interested in tweets like this.

5. Nothing original

People that do not come up with anything original are “quote bots” since that is all they do: tweet quotes. Several quotes may be good, but constantly sending them all day (sometimes repeatedly, for that matter)… just… no.

Additionally, tweets that aren’t active bug me as well. If a month has gone by since your last tweet, you will most probably get dropped by twitter. Everybody is allowed to follow a particular amount of people and if you are not active, why should we keep following you in place of somebody who is actually active and has interesting stuff to share?

So there’s my quick list. In the end, you will not want to have reasons to stop following someone, but these would be my biggest reasons in doing so. What are yours?

Another crucial decision to be taken while seeking a hosting company is to choose between Windows and Linux hosting. There is no particular rule, you normally prefer what best suits your needs. I’ll describe the fundamental differences between Linux and Windows hosting.

(a) The most important point to consider is the proper selection of keywords. Avoid general search terms as these are likely to have a large competition and are expensive. Always look for ‘Long Tail Keywords’ (containing three or four words) which have less competition and are less costly. There are various keyword research tools such as, ‘Wordtracker’ which may be used for this purpose. The ads may be divided into different ad groups and the performance of each group should be monitored separately. Only those groups which are profitable should be continued.

(b) The language of your ad should be simple and grammatically correct. Do not use any unnecessary punctuations, symbols or capitalization. The ad should be easily understood by the average web user. The ad copy should be such that it would make the visitor want to click the ad to know more. It should highlight the benefits of using the product or service being offered. The use of the words like ‘discount’,'free offer’ etc. will help to attract customers.

(c) The content of your ad should match with that of your website or landing page. Any claims made in your ad must be supported by the landing page.

(d) When you write your ad copy, be careful of any copyright issue. Any violation of the same will get you penalized. Do not use any offensive language in your ad, as it is completely prohibited by Google.

(e) Instead of spending all the money at a time, you should set a daily budget for your PPC advertisements. Only spend what you can afford to lose.

(i) Set a goal for each day. Work hard to meet your goal. If necessary, work extra hours. Avoid unnecessary surfing on the internet. Turn off your distractions (like television) while working. Try multitasking. If necessary, you may outsource some of your jobs. 

(ii) It is better to have a separate office in your home. You may turn a spare bedroom into your office or may use a part of your bedroom as the office. Nobody should disturb you while you are working in your ‘office’.

(iii) Before starting your business, do some market research and make a detailed business plan. Only promote such products which are in demand and offer high commissions. The business plan should show the initial investment required, the different advertising techniques to be used and other related matters.

(iv) To promote your online home business, you must build your own website or landing page. The website/landing page should be promoted by using different internet marketing techniques such as, PPC advertising, banner advertising, e mail marketing, article marketing, forum marketing etc. Different social networking sites like, Myspace, Facebook, Twitter etc. may also be used to promote your home business.

(v) Try to build backlinks to your website. The more the number of backlinks, the higher will be it’s position in the search engines, then you dominate the SERPS.

(vi) E Mail marketing is a very important tool for promoting your internet home business. Try to build your own opt-in-list by capturing the names and e mail addresses of your visitors. In exchange of their names and e mail addresses, offer them something of value, such as, an e book or an e course. You can offer your products and services to the members of your list.

(vii) Start with one internet home business at a time. After you become successful in that, you may branch out to others.

(i) A newbie affiliate marketer should always choose a market or program in which he/she is personally interested.

(ii) Always choose products which you can be proud of selling. The products should be of good quality and be able to solve people’s problems. The best thing is to buy and use the products yourself so that you get to know both the advantages and disadvantages of using the same. Your personal experience will help you to promote the product better.

(iii) The affiliate product/program selected should be in a niche which is very active and growing. The niche should be one where people spend money in.

(iv) The affiliate program selected should match your online business plan. For example, if you run a website on pets but try to promote a golf program on your pet website, your visitors may not be interested in the same.

(v) Before joining an affiliate program, it is better to do some research about it. Just having a fancy website does not mean that the program is a reputed one. Look at the commission payment history to ensure that the payments are made in time. The program should be free to join. The products offered should be popular and not too costly. The merchant should provide adequate marketing tools which would help in promoting the products. The program should use tracking cookies to ensure that you get paid even when the buyer does not buy anything during his/her first visit to the merchant website but does so during subsequent visits.

(vi) The affiliate program should offer a high commission rate which may range between 30% to 70%. Programs which offer a 2-tier system are better. Under a 2-tier system, you get paid for your own sales as well as for recruiting new members to the program.

(d) Affiliate marketing: Affiliate marketing involves selling other people’s products for a commission. This is a very profitable online business. As an affiliate, your duty is to send prospective customers to the merchant’s website. If the customer purchases
something, you earn a commission. You can promote the products by putting banner or text link ads or product reviews on your website. The two most popular affiliate marketing networks are Clickbank and Commission Junction.

(e) Private forums: You can put up a private forum on your website and charge a monthly fee from your members for accessing the same.

(f) Job boards: You may put up a job board on your site and charge for the job listings.

(g) Marketplace: Some websites have put up marketplaces for buying and selling of goods and services. They charge a small fee for each listing.

(h) Donations: You can put up a ‘Donate’ link on your website and receive donations from your visitors.

In addition to the above, there are other ways such as, Pop-up and pop-under ads, audio ads, text link ads, sponsored posts etc. which may be used to earn money from your website.
