As you may already know, I met up with Mr. Kevin Williamson -- the executive producer of "The Vampire Diaries" -- at Wednesday's Paley Center event for "Dawson's Creek" and he was kind enough to give us a little scoop on this week's "VD" ep.

A new character is descending upon Mystic Falls and the world of a few more people will now begin to open for us.

Well, better to let you hear it from (the very humble) horse's mouth...

James Van Der Beek, Kevin Williamson turn out to toast 'Dawson's Creek'

When it comes to the camera, I'm no Dawson Leery.

But I'm trying, people.

I whipped out the flip for Wednesday night's Paley Center celebration of "Dawson's Creek" and, well, we got some footage...

Footage of me making people uncomfortable mostly. And saying "Love it" a lot. Apparently, I love a lot of things.

But there are some highlights: The reunion of James Van Der Beek and Meredith Monroe caught on tape (I mean, he saw her like two weeks ago, but it was still real cute)... me putting James on the spot about who he felt Joey should've ended up with... and show creator Kevin Williamson explaining his thoughts on the situation...

Sadly, Busy Philipps got tied up at "Cougar Town" and wasn't able to make it in time for interviews, but she more than made up for it during the panel.

Just a couple things before we tie this up:

1) We screened the "Dawson's Creek" pilot right after this press line and it is truly remarkable how well the series holds up more than a decade later.

2) For those still upset about Jen (Michelle Williams) getting killed off, Kevin shared that he always felt "Dawson's Creek" was a coming-of-age story and all about growing up... and dealing with the death of someone you truly love was, to him, the final lesson... and that was his thought behind the decision.

Busy was kind enough to share that Kevin had also told Michelle that just as Jen's arrival was the catalyst for change in the lives of Dawson, Joey and Pacey in the pilot, her departure forced them to take that final step into adulthood.

Poetic.

And, damn it, now I'm tearing up.

You have got to hand it to "So You Think You Can Dance" tapper Phillip Attmore who continued to smile (and dance) after losing his dad to cancer last week and getting eliminated from the competition tonight.

This kid is a class freaking act.

I spoke with Phillip backstage not long after he learned his fate and he couldn't have been more gracious about the judges' decision, the fact that he was saddled with ballroom two weeks in a row and about what's next for him.

Two words (both proper nouns): Ryan Kasprzak.

The older brother of season 5 finalist Evan Kasprzak -- whom we know from his own "So You Think You Can Dance" audition experiences -- is a very close friend of Phillip's and the two are talking about teaming up.

I'll let Phillip tell you...

Good kid.

Would like to see him do well.

By the way, his female counterpart this week, fellow tapper Bianca Revels, was so distraught after her elimination that she decided not to do any post-show chatting, but I would just like to say that I loved your "dance for your life," Ms. Bianca, and I wanted to yell that at you when you walked by after the show, but you looked too upset and I wasn't sure if yelling was really appropriate, but I thought your personality came through loud and clear, lady, and it sucks to see you go so soon.

At my request, the lovely and talented "Melrose Place" actor met up with me at Brentwood's Bar Food just two short days before learning he'd be losing his spot on the show, and it's really too damn bad because the stuff that he spilled about what's coming up for his character Auggie (and Ashlee Simpson's character Violet) sounds very interesting.

In the clip below, we're talking about the recovering alcoholic falling off the wagon, we're reenacting an upcoming Simpson sex scene and we're discussing violence against women... purely consensual of course, you know "Melrose" is nothing if not twisted.

Yep, going there...

Does Colin's dismissal from "Melrose" not seem even more tragic now?

If the producers are going to so foolishly let him go, perhaps the powers-that-be on another series will snatch him up.

Just a few of the suggestions some of you guys have come up with?

Sanctuary? White Collar? Maybe the new intern on Bones? Rookie cop on Cold Case? He'd be perfect as a Dollhouse Doll, but I don't think that show will see a season three. *sniff*
Hey! How about making him the star of the show that *replaces* Melrose. -Sash

All My Children should snatch him up--ratings booster! Or some show like Ghost Whisperer should give him a multi-episode story arc. Either way, just put the man to work. -Bryan

I'd like to see Colin on The Vampire Diaries. Stephen could use a hot, sexy vampire ally. But I'd also love to see him on Grey's. -JettaJameson

So, yeah, Song Fest, a battle of the bots -- and wits -- between Rusty and Dale, a solid Mischa Barton burn, a mystery left cliffhanging and a major fire... all reasons to tune into "Greek" this week.

My apologies for being somewhat absent last week, but I wasn't just slacking. I was actually up in the great white north, visiting the Vancouver set of "V"...

The series, which debuts this Tuesday, stars Scott Wolf and "Lost"'s Elizabeth Mitchell among other major talents and I'll have more from them next week.

But first, an introductory sit down with Mitchell and costar Morris Chestnut, as well as Wolf and costar Morena Baccarin...

Scott's a new dad. We can't be mad at him for fielding phone calls while doing an interview, now can we...

It was hard enough to get mad at him when he took little Owen for a drive after he'd been drinking in the pre-intervention days. We left the anger stuff to Charlie even back then, didn't we?

Pumped for "V"? Will this be Wolf's big TV comeback, post "Party of Five"?

Based on the solid premiere, which I've previewed and fully approve of, it's certainly possible.

'Greek' returns with 'Secret Life of the American Teenager,' 'Make It or Break It' in January

The Casey and Cappie question is still up in the air, but the question of when "Greek" returns for the second half of its season isn't.

The ABC Family college series will come back on Monday, Jan. 25 with one tiny change. Instead of 9 p.m. ET/PT, the show has been pushed to the 10 p.m. slot to follow the return "The Secret Life of the American Teenager" at 8 p.m. and "Make It or Break It" at 9 p.m., creating an uber three-hour block of dramas.

Wow, that's going to be interesting, having these up against all those other Monday network shows.

But first, "Greek's" midseason finale on Nov. 2 will answer whether or not Casey (Spencer Grammer) and Cappie (Scott Michael Foster) will rekindle the flames and how their friends will react.

We can't wait!

'Nip/Tuck's' Mario Lopez goes the 'Extra' mile

You may be watching Mario Lopez annoy Sean and Christian on "Nip/Tuck" on Wednesdays this fall -- a new episode airs this week (10/28) -- but Lopez has a lot going on right now, beyond the acting career.

Between playing Dr. Mike Hamoui, hosting "America's Best Dance Crew" on MTV, co-writing a children's book and being the face of entertainment news series "Extra," Lopez is like the new Seacrest.

Though most of us grew up watching him as the singlet-wearing, Jessie Spano-dating A.C. Slater on "Saved By The Bell," it seems acting isn't at the forefront of his future plans.

"I'd love to continue both [acting and hosting], but if I had to choose, I'd choose hosting, because I can be myself."

Lisa Gregorisch-Dempsey, "Extra"'s senior E.P., says Lopez campaigned hard to be in the position he's in now.

"Seven years ago, he came in here and he wanted the main job," Gregorisch-Dempsey explained. "And I said, You're not ready. And he was like, No, I am ready. I said, Look, everything comes easily to you. You know, you still have a little of the "Saved By The Bell" cheesiness on you. You have to go out there, on your own, and wipe it off. Go reinvent yourself and I'll talk to you in a few years."

Gregorisch-Dempsey says Mario continued to pursue the job and the more she said no to him, the more determined he was to get it.

After a stint on Broadway and his successful turn on "Dancing with the Stars," she felt he was finally there and made him "Extra"'s weekend anchor. A year ago, he took over as sole host of the daily show.

"Mario [is] the ultimate insider in Hollywood," Gregorisch-Dempsey mused. You know, everyone grew up watching him. And he's friends with every celebrity out there. Whether it's Tyler Perry texting him or Jamie Foxx or Russell Crowe calling him or hanging out with him in Vegas, they're really comfortable with him. The microphone is almost invisible when he's sitting down with somebody, because they're his friends, they trust him. He gets more out of them, because there's a comfort zone and it's more like a conversation than a scripted interview."

I met up with Mario this month to get his take on all that he has going on.

But mostly, I just wanted to hang out with Mario Lopez...
