Zealicon 2011: Celebrating the success

It is said that all good things come to an end but we believe that a journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step. So, we celebrate this day not as the end of Zealicon 2011 but as the beginning of yet another fabulous year at the J.S.S. Academy of Technical Education, Noida.

This year Zealicon was a testimony of plenary passion that surpassed the boundaries of adventure and the belief that participation is more important than winning. We saw students flaring in from all directions to be a part of this mega fiesta, one that was an experience to remember. The technical disposition of the subject in view, quizzed the intelligence quotient of the participants whereas the cultural stance upped the entertainment factor. An infectious gush of zeal and enthusiasm oozed out from each head present at the venue. Exhilaration reached its zenith and epitomised Zealicon 2011 as one of the most successful festivals in the history of this academy.

We take this opportunity to thank all the students for their active participation and acknowledging our efficacious endeavours. Our gracious gratitude also goes to our peers, teachers and members of the organising committee for their perpetual support and endurance that gave us the motivation to achieve.

As we say good bye to this year’s effulgent extravaganza, only hope of a better future lingers in everyone’s heart and we promise to make every effort possible to live up to these hopes and come out shining brighter and more glorious than ever.

Updates from Day 3

The third day at Zealicon 2011 catapulted vigour and zeal to even bigger dimensions and marked new defining heights for the event. The day saw everyone putting their best foot forward and participating in various activities.

The day began with the final rounds of Codewars and Night Knitting, the two events that continued on from last day throughout the night. Events viz. Transporters, Khoj, Volans, ZOC, Ovid and Treasure Ville, Face Painting etc. followed. Each of these witnessed participations in huge numbers which made it a successful day here at the JSS Academy of Technical Education.

As it was the last day of activities, Day 3 was even fuller with the passion of willing, participating students who wanted to extract the maximum out of it. Technical events like Ovid, Khoj etc. lined up against events like Face Painting and Treasure Ville gave the scene of activities a contrasting outlook, yet one that attracted humongous crowds.

The night was a cultural one and everyone stepped onto the grounds to enjoy themselves, as the evening approached. Dance performances in every category- Solo, Duet and Group were held and winners were announced by the Dean of the college. The night also saw musical/singing performances from many students.

As day 3 neared it close, the crowd took to the floor and danced their feet off, celebrating the passion and zest that Zealicon is all about. A felicitation ceremony is to be held the following day, to honour the big winners of this mega event and wish them luck for the years to come.

Day 2 at Zealicon 2011

It was yet another huge day at Zealicon 2011, the 4th Annual Techno-Cultural Festival of J.S.S. Academy of Technical Education, Noida. Music, art, dance, fun, games, brain riddling events and a whole lot of keen participants, you name it and it was there on day 2 of this mega festival.

The day was kicked off with a set of technical event viz. Industry player, Errata, Free run, Rhetoric followed by events like collage making and filmi chakkar etc. Each event was unique in its approach and successful in its execution. The students were also given a chance to revisit their childhood memories with fun activities like paper dancing, musical chairs and ghoda paani ghaas.

With a wide buffet of events stacked up, the crowd breathed nothing but excitement and bubbled with passion. Registrations kept coming in as more and more students felt the zeal and followed in the footstep of the others.

Day 2 continued with performances from the JSS Academy rock band and various others from external colleges. Rightly named, ‘War of the Bands’ this event attracted a massive population to the grounds and everyone was left stunned by the skills and talents of these artists on the floor. It was no surprise that even after such a jam packed day, Zealicon still had major events in its bag that would run through the night to the start of Day 3. Night Knitting and Code Wars were two such events that challenged the coding giants and kept them up throughout the night. Even an event as challenging as this did not pull down the zeal and students participated in huge numbers. As another day approaches, everyone looks forward to make the best out of it and learn from the experience.

Zealicon 2011, the 4th Annual Techno-Cultural Festival of J.S.S. Academy of Technical Education, Noida opened its door on the 10^th March 2011 for a gathering of exuberant students and welcomed one and all to a brilliant setup of technical and cultural events amalgamated with an array of fun activities.

It was a sight to look at, when the registration windows open and a mass of students hurled towards it to register themselves and be a part of this mega event. Students from the J.S.S. academy and various external colleges participated in huge numbers which gave this festival a diverse yet cordial outlook.

The day started off with technical events viz. Bizz-O-War, SQL Samurai, Make Your Crap.com, Alacrity, Robo Bryant, and Catapult amongst many others that brought out the best in the engineering students and tested their brains to the maximum. With a large variety of events to choose from, the participants didn’t have a minute to spare. The day was silver lined with the elation of the winners and the sporting attitude of those who didn’t succeed all stirred together with the zeal and enthusiasm that one only gets to see at an event like this.

If the technical side of Zealicon raised the bar and expectations of many, its cultural counterpart was not far behind in any respect. It comprised of an assortment of solo, duet and group dance performances that fired up the fun and talent quotient of the event. It was the best end to a great first day. With 3 days still left to go, one can only expect it to be an even huger success hereafter and with a day as successful as this, it does seem to be promising to do so.

The mega event of JSS has finally come to end. We experienced three days of unlimited knowledge, fun and entertainment. We also witnessed the first techno-cultural event and it will continue for years to come.

The technical events added fuel to fire as students participated with full enthusiasm and confidence. Cultural events bring to light a new face of engineering students, their talent was worth appreciation.

We thank all our participants for their active participation and good code of conduct. It was our pleasure to have you all here and we hope to see you again next year at Zealicon 2011.For winners my message is to come and win again, for those who couldn’t win can get one more opportunity to prove their mettle.

We hope to come back again in 2011 and Rock!!!
Coloralo will get more vigorous and joyous next year adding intense fire to Zealicon 2011, Robots at Robotiles will get better and talented coders would be appreciated at Coderz.

The second day of ZEALICON 2010 took the energy of the first day to a different level. The enthusiasm was even more and versatility was to be seen everywhere .

Day 2 was grand as there were more than 1300 registrations and more than 50 guest colleges that participated in events ranging from Green Town Plan to I-HAX ; the hacking competition. Rhetoric- the debate got an excellence response with over 25 teams and AMU emerged as the winner. The issue discussed in the debate was whether India needs to focus on giving primary education to all or higher education to few in order to make its mark as a super power. Arguments were intense and thought provoking. While some were busy finding a solution to this question others got an exposure to what marketing is all about with the finals of Industry Player. The team from Meerut Institute Of Technology won the Industry Player with promising talent. The home teams made a mark in events like ZOC – Zenith Of Creativity, Biz- o- War ; the business quiz and Raaga ; the musical quiz as the students won bagged the first prizes.

Java Debugging made the participants rack their brains and Collage making saw their concern for social cause as the teams were required to design collages on the theme – Save The Tigers.

The second day’s dusk will dawn with the third day as some night events are scheduled like Night Knitting – the web designing contest and Code war.

All in all a great second day in ZEALICON…full of zeal in true sense of the word.

A beginning to yet another fantastic edition of JSS Noida's Techno-Cultural Festival Zealicon '09! From 9AM to 7PM, almost 25 events took place today. With so many participants from colleges across Delhi/NCR, participating in so many events, it surely was fun!

This year, the organizing team has also started a journalism experiment. We asked certain interested students to jot down what they saw in the fest and how they felt about the events during the day. We are pleasantly surprised that some of them had the patience to sit down and write a paragraph or two after the day's hard work. As we keep getting their mails, we will keep updating this space. Aeronautoon

First day, first show! Zealicon'10 began with the event Aeronatoon. This contest required the participanting teams to make hot air balloons from waste poly-bags. To launch the poly-bags and make them fly, the teams were required to heat up the air inside the baloon using some kind of an ingenious fuel (candles, or oil).

The event was scheduled at 9:00AM at the platform on top of the RO Plant. The event coordinators arrived and started to manage things at about 10:00 am and the anchors started interacting with the audience and entertaining people after a while. Soon after, teams started preparations for the launch of their balloons. It was hard to bear the scorching sun and the audience limited itself to the shade of library entrance.

In came the first team , and it was an all girl team comprising of Prachi and Shruti (both 1st year students of ECE). I must say that they made a commendable start. Their balloon was small and light and they used magic candles to produce the hot air. Here the concept of James Watt came into being and the balloon went very high in the sky within seconds. The balloon stayed in air for more than a minute.Then other teams came, some had a rocking show. Some balloons caught fire, some tilted and went down. It was fun watching the teams trying their best!

Principal Dr Narendra Kumar, Registrar Dr Shirur, CAO Cmdr Gupta and Prof RB Sharma paid a visit and appreciated the teams. The anchors Lakshya and Surbhi (both 1st Year, MT) did a good job but could not keep the audience engaged for long in the heat. At the same time some small surprises like ' who drinks the soft drink fastest' refueled the event. The first prize went to the team of Chetan, Sonam and Jyoti Bisht and the the team of Astha, Akansha, Garima and Akrosh got the second position.

Udvikas

The event UDVIKAS, designed to give a podium to all the would-be entrepreneurs, started at 1:00 pm today in the seminar hall. It was presided by the judges, Ms Richa Verma and Mr Vohra from the Humanities and MBA departments respectively. There were ten participating teams, which had to go through successive elimination rounds. Each team had to come up with a new imaginary product or service and sell the idea to the audience. Many of these products sounded very feasible.

This event tested the innovation and creativity of the participants. The teams gave logical points to support their ventures and tried their best to influence the judges. Various strategies that were to be employed regarding the Product's Life Cycle were also discussed.
The teams introduced their products with the help of a presentation. A fictional sum of rupees seventy five thousand was the budget given to each team for their product development and all phases of the Product Life Cycle (PLC). Some of the innovative ideas which were appreciated by all were using teflon casing instead of plastic casing in cell phone batteries and using chairs with accupressure points in them. The former case involved using the triboelectric effect of teflon, hence saving the excess electricity used in charging mobile phones. The latter product laid stress on making chairs more comfortable.
On the whole the event was full of new and fresh ideas leaders of tomorrow.

Technical Paper Presentation

The event was conducted at 10:30 AM on AB-3 1st floor today. A team of two participants was to present a powerpoint presentation on topics related to one of the three pre-decided tracks which were Track 1-hardware/cheminformatics/wireless electricity, Track 2-networking and web technologies and Track 3-Mobile and Emerging computing technologies.

The time limit for each presentation was 10 minutes followed by a 5 minute discussion with the judges. The jury consisted of Mrs Gunjan Srivastaava(faculty from MCA Department), Mrs Pratibha(faculty from chemistry department), Mr Vikas Srivastava, Mrs Sabitha(faculty from Electrical Engineering department), Ms Sona Kumar, Ms Madhu Malik, Mrs Vineeta Kemchandani(faculty from Mathematics department), Ms Runumi Devi and Prof. S.S Prasad.

There were a total of 15 teams out of which few were from institutes like Jamia Milia Islamia University, HBTI Kanpur and Galgotia Institute, Greater Noida. The various topics discussed by the teams were Aquasol, witricity, Thee Intelligent Internet, Spyware and Adware, Bio-metrics in secure e-transactions, Next Generation DNA Computing, Nano-computing, Sixth-Sense Technology etc. Each team presented their outlook of the future technologies and the possible ways of implementing them in our country.

A few interesting ones were Aquasol which was about developing pollution-free vehicles that would be a combination of public vehicles like 'rikshas' and 'auto'. These pollution free vehicles would utilize vibrational energy of water molecules instead of fuels like diesal or CNG and at the same time purify the water that is being used. A presentation on 'sixth-sense' was all about providing devices that will provide various facilities to man especially physically disabled people. The event ended at around 12 pm.

Our guests from Jamia Milia Islamia University, Jaideep Singh and Anshika Choudhary presented the Aquasol paper and won the first prize. Overall, the event was very interesting, highly intellectual and very well organized.

Conclave (Group Discussion Contest)

Today being the first day of ZEALICON’10 ended with a great deal of participation and enthusiasm.

Conclave (Group Discussion) commenced at 3pm sharp. A huge turnup of 79 participants was managed in two parallel sessions of preliminary rounds. Each group had eight participants who exchanged their views for ten minutes after two minutes of silent thought over the topic and each one concluded with a 30 seconds ending note.

The topics ranged from controversial Kashmir issue to the grading system in boards, from relation between religion and politics to the loop holes in Indian judiciary system. The event was judged by Ms Anchal, Ms Niharika and Ms Anjali of the Humanities Dept. The patience displayed by the judges was really appreciable even when discussions took a fuming and argumentative turn.
The biggest achievement of the event was when several students who came up only as audience were also inspired to join in the discussions and they even enjoyed their experience, which was the first one for many of them.

The preliminary rounds were followed by 18 semi finalists who competed in two different GDs and lead to a final GD of 9 finalists. The winner was Sudarshan Bengani followed by Shrishti Srivastava on the runner up position.

PS - Spellathon and Text Twist were the fun events whose pamphlets were distributed before Conclave and its winners will be declared tomorrow during Rhetoric(the debate contest).

Torque

Torque held immense promise and appeal and did not disappoint the masses gathered around craning their necks to get a peak at the mini remote control cars.What came as a surprise were the number of cars entered by teams comprising of first year students!One would have expected glitches and technical difficulties for the track was cleverly laid out with curvy turns and also at places filled with sand to effect skids,but there were astonishingly few!The first criteria/preference for judgment was the time taken to complete the track and points were deducted for any manual handling or digression from track.

The transition from playing with cars in childhood to building one in Engineering is what dreams comprise of and the event basked in the pride of all the cars that entered and the winning team that completed the track in a matter of 15 seconds!

Wirology

Every engineer is expected to be equipped with a sound knowledge of laws governing current and voltage and a fair idea of wiring in households.A team of 4 was provided with a switch board and a problem statement outlining the restrictions and the desired output.With participation from other colleges,winning,that is, completing the circuit connections in as little time as possible became a possession with our home teams.They did not fall short of our expectations and their own and won!
Events that come under ROBOTILES are good old fashioned crowd magnets as they are conceptualized around fields that are more often than not every Engineer's passion and as expected drew a larger participation from our freshers!

Air Show

The scheduled time of the event was 10 AM. In spite of the guests being present on time, the event started at 10:45 AM. In the scorching sun, the participants were waiting to see the first plane fly. Atlast, they witnessed the aero adventure at 11:00 AM, when a model plane was seen flying in the sunny sky. Using a remote control, the planes which were almost about a feet long were made to make beautiful maneuvers for almost about 10 minutes.

Runway seemed to be a bit problematic as the bumpy nature of the track made the planes land in a haphazard manner. Not only planes, but boomerangs were also flying. The arrangements made by the student coordinators left quite a bit to be desired.

The event was carried out under the direction of guides MR H. S Kalsi, Col Abu Rashid and Faculty members from the Mechanical Engineering Department. The guides helped the students with some invaluable suggestions on various topics including RC helicopter, boomerangs and flight principles. The students will definitely find the advice useful for their future endeavours.

The teams which participated in the event were tech-crunchy as the designing of a plane takes a huge input from the designer’s side. There were no winners. It was just a fun event which was planned brilliantly, but the execution was not that good. It has always been a pleasure to watch the planes fly, but this time it was below expectations.

Hey Everyone

Its tym to do something [EXCITINGLY DIFFERENT]. Yeah, you guessed it right.!!! The font does all the work. Its tym to zeal and be the ikon. Now for all those techno-savvy people sitting out there, its the right tym to prove your mettle. And for one more reason, its the bang tym............what???Ok
Tired of all the assignments and the lab files and the "All tym hit" sessionals just next week, so just bag a prize and show it to your teacher........."I'm not that useless ma'am." What an idea,sirjee!!!!
