Google Translator Toolkitis a set of tools to enable users to exploit the power of Google Translate whilst enabling them to improve upon the machine-translated output, contributing in the process to the quality of Google Translate’s output. Google Translator Toolkit currently only allows users to upload HTML, Microsoft Word, OpenDocument Text, Rich Text and Plain Text documents up to 1MB for translation. Alternatively, it’s possible to enter the URL of a file on the web, select a Wikipedia article or a Knol for translation.After submission, the text that requires translation is automatically translated in the back-end and subsequently featured in a so-called ‘Workbench’, neatly placing the resulting text in the target language next to the original.

Some other tools that are useful include RubiStar and Assign-A-Day, CasaNotes, Project Based Learning (PBL) Checklists, and The Teacher Tacklebox. CasaNotes generates simple form letters that you can edit and print in English and Spanish. The KEEP Toolkit is a set of web-based tools designed to help individuals and groups collectively share and build upon their knowledge by the means of visual representations. Students in a teacher education course document their learning from multimedia cases of effective teaching and share their reflections with their peers and teacher educators. The KEEP Toolkit is a project of the Knowledge Media Lab at the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.    It has been used by a wide range of institutions to support teaching and learning, portfolios and research collaboration. 5. Foldit
Foldit is an online game that lets players design new vaccines and make enzymes for repairing DNA in diseased tissues. The project’s goal is to understand how proteins — the chains of amino acids that drive processes inside living cells — fold themselves into a myriad of different shapes. But the most striking difference is that Foldit’s protein-folding operators are actual human beings. The premise of Foldit is simple: See protein floating on screen. Drag parts of protein around to get it to the optimal energy state. The better the energy, the more points you get. But in order to make that happen, you must rearrange amino acid chains attached to the protein backbone, making sure they aren’t hitting, or “clashing,” each other and sending out spinning red stars on the screen. Foldit game players can play alone against opponents, or as part of a team.

6. VerbaLearn
VerbaLearn is free online courses that increase vocabulary and motivate students to score higher on standardized tests.The system can also be used to increase vocabulary for professional development, improve English language skills, and prevent memory loss. For those of us who do not know excrement from a brand of shoe polish, especially students studying for the ACT, SAT, or GRE, VerbaLearn makes for an invaluable tool to practice your vocabulary. 8. One Minute Languages
The One Minute Language series by Radio Lingua Network is a great way to introduce your self to the very basics of a language in one minute.  One Minute Languages offers basic instructions in a dozen languages for English speakers including German, Russian and Japanese that will help get you started. Each language features ten lessons covering greetings, talking about names, saying you understand or don’t understand, counting and making friends. The website has audio that you can click and play.

The short lessons are released weekly as a podcast you can subscribe to via iTunes, or you can just visit the site to play back archived tips in your browser. The Radio Lingua Network also has other language learning series like Coffee Break Spanish, Coffee Break French, and Show Time Spanish.

9. Mathway
Mathway is a Web calculator that not only solves math problems for you, but also shows you how it got to the answer with step-by-step directions. On the website mathway.com, you can enter a maths problem such as 2ln(-x)+7=14 and get a solution, plus an explanation in natural language of how that solution can be reached. The step by step process should be good for even the slowest person to understand the basic concepts behind some of math’s most important operations. Maths problems that can be solved on mathway.com include algebra, trigonometry, precalculus, calculus, matrix calculations, integrals, derivatives, and much more. Users need to choose the relevant category in order to get the respective symbols which are commonly used to enter the “problem statement”. 2. Grooveshark
Grooveshark is an internationally-available  online music search engine, music streaming service and music recommendation web software application.  Grooveshark launched in 2007 after co-founders Josh Greenberg and Sam Tarantino met in a University of Florida entrepreneurship course.  Users have the ability to listen to single songs from the 7-million song catalog, save playlists, and embed both on other websites, blogs, and social media profiles via the Grooveshark Widget. Grooveshark also allows artists and record labels to promote themselves through the application with both advertisement and paying for listens from Grooveshark users

Grooveshark’s WordPress plugin is also an impressive service. Once installed, this service allows WordPress users to post as many songs as they’d like from Grooveshark’s library. Once installed you can configure your Grooveshark account and adjust the plugin options. For each blog post you write, you’ll now have the option to search songs, as well as view favorites and playlists, and play tracks right from the post admin page.

Grooveshark’s new Facebook application is about to make music waves throughout the social site. After installing the application, you can then search the Grooveshark database of songs — 10 million strong — to select a song to share with friends or publish to your profile.

3. Spotify
Spotify is a proprietary peer-to-peer streaming music program that allows instant listening to specific tracks or albums with almost no buffering delay. Spotify is invite-only and currently offers streaming music via Mac, Windows and Linux, and device integration on the Android, iPhone and Nokia S60 series is well on its way.

Spotify has created a lightweight software application that users will simply download and then log onto their service enabling on demand streaming of music.The service also allows users to scrobble to Last.fm and keep track of their listening through the popular music recommendation site.
One of the software engineers at Spotify is Ludvig Strigeus, the creator of uTorrent. It is therefore no surprise that the application uses very few resources,it is just 12k memory. The quality of the music on Spotify is comparable to 160kbps MP3s, which is more than decent for a streaming application. To fill its library, Spotify has cut deals with EMI, Warner Music, Sony BMG and three other major labels, which all responded positively to the new concept.

4. Boxee Alpha
Boxee, the open source app that ives viewer TV like experience with Web streaming as well as your media contents stored on the hard drive. The open-source Boxee platform brings together apps from such Internet media providers as CBS, Hulu, MTV, Netflix, Revision 3, and The WB.
The development team behind Boxee, the cross-platform, open-source media center with social networking features, has finally announced the release of a public Alpha version for Windows. The streaming media software company recently celebrated a Windows release, a deal penned with Major League Baseball (complete with instant replay on games) and partnerships with Digg, Tumblr and Current TV. Even though the public Alpha version of Boxee seems to be more stable and responsive than the private Alpha.

Installing Boxee was easy, as was getting started. The slick, attractive interface fills the screen and is heavy on blacks and grays. The main menu, which hides itself on the left until you mouse over it, directs you to applications (Internet-based content such as YouTube or CNN), local media (content on your computer, such as downloaded songs or movies), a browse feature, and the ‘App Box’, where you can download more applications developed for the platform. The main menu also reports the time and weather–helpful if you tend to get engrossed in media viewing.

5. BeatScanner

6. Last FM
LastFm is a music discovery and listening service owned by CBS Interactive. It’s got a wide range of tracks users can listen to and share with others. One of its more helpful services for music junkies is Scrobbling, which tracks the music you’re listening to on your computer and sends the information to Last.fm. From there, everyone can look at what you’ve been listening to, how often you’ve listened to it, and give it a go themselves. Users can make their own playlists and even share them with friends using the service’s widget-making tool or Facebook application. Last.fm’s mobile application for the iPhone and iPod touch is also available for download, either through the iTunes storefront for directly from the mobile device. In May, Last.fm has added a visual element to Last.fm radio, so you can now watch either music videos or related slideshows while you’re enjoying some streaming music.

7. SweetFM
SweetFM is a new Last.fm client that offers up a seriously sexy way to listen to your favorite Last.fm stations on your Mac. SweetFM is a Mac application that will allow you to switch seamlessly between Last.fm and iTunes. Tune to any station and you can control Last.fm with SweetFM’s interface - stop the stream and you can use it as an iTunes controller!
Export to iTunes: Yes it’s true, you can directly export streamed songs to your iTunes library for local storage. SweetFM can automatically export your loved, playlist or all tracks. This certainly isn’t legal in every country, but it is very slick. And in case you were wondering, even on poor connections with continued buffering the resulting iTunes stored copy is identical to the original stream.

8. Songbird 1.2
Songbird is an open-source customizable music player that’s under active development. Songbird employs Mozilla’s XULRunner platform, and is thus capable of running on Microsoft Windows, Apple Mac OS X, Solaris and Linux. Songbird utilizes the GStreamer media framework.

The Songbird developers have announced the release of version 1.2 of their open source media player. Songbird can now automatically organize the files that are contained in your library. Once enabled, it will consolidate your media in one location. You can customize the structure of the folder and file names based on metadata contained in every track. In addition to several performance improvements to features like search, Songbird 1.2 now supports 2-way syncing with iTunes, which is especially useful for users who purchase songs in the iTunes Music Store. Songs added to Songbird can also be synced back into iTunes for syncing with iPods and iPhones.

9. Blip.fm
BlipFM is often described as a twitter for music. It is a a micro-messaging service that allows folks to tweet their favorite songs and create social interactions around music, is on life support. Users post short messages on what music they are listening to at the moment, the site then turns them into streaming links using Imeem. Blip is essentially “Twitter for Music.” It allows you to suggest music and share your thoughts about it with a network of contacts. It was launched in June 2007. Jeff Yasuda, founder and CEO, tells the Journal that he is going shut down Fuzz.com but will be keeping Blip.fm going since the company has some money.

10. Hypetape
Hypetape, The new music site Hypetape, takes the search and indexing capability of Hype Machine, and adds it to the playlist creation and interface of Muxtape. The site scrapes the MP3 blog aggregator Hype Machine in order to let you make shareable playlists (example), and all you need to use it is a Google log-in (it runs on the Google App Engine). Sign up, choose your favourite artists, and create and online playlist of their tracks. It’s simple, elegant and lovely.

CheckMyColours.com by Giovanni Scala is a tool for checking foreground and background color combinations of all DOM elements and determining if they provide sufficient contrast when viewed by someone having color deficits. The site includes a number of tests that are based on the algorithms suggested by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). That is why it seems to be a highly reliable tool for you to make an accurate colors’ management. Drop a URL into the box and press the check button, and you’ll receive an exhaustive analysis of page elements and their contrast ratio and brightness/color difference.

Pictaculous is a free web-based service which generates the color palette of an image you upload. And, it provides color palette suggestions from Adobe Kuler & Colourlovers which can be used with the image.

Adobe® kuler is an online community where you can explore, create, and share color themes. The color themes in kuler are contributed by its users, many of them designers or in the creative business. You can share with the community your own chromatic ingenuity, too.

The color palette will be consist of 5 colors which are taken from your uploaded graphics, complete with its hexa code for each color. It handles PNG, GIF, JPG image file format and your file cannot be larger than 500kb. Once the color palette is created, it can be downloaded as an Adobe Swatch file. Pictaculous also enables you to send the image & get results via e-mail (which is nice for using the service in phones).

3. ColoRotate

ColoRotate is a free web-based service that helps to work with colors in 3D, in real time & offers an unique experience. When other palette generators are primarily focusing on the 2D color wheel, ColoRotate uses a prism to display color, luminescence, saturation, and brightness all in once. Its quick drag-and-drop interface to adjust hue, brightness & saturation helps you customize the colors with ease. There’s also an entire “learn about color” section of the site, giving a good overview of the theory and science behind color and color combinations. ColoRotate is also a color community where it is possible to browse & search themes created by other users.

Colors Palette Generator is an online tool that lets you extract colors from an image and generate set of color palettes. CliqCliq.com offers nearly everything you could want from an iPhone color app. You can play around with the sliders to see different colors and add and delete them from your palettes with ease.  Touching the color squares will lock them into the palette while you extract other colors form the image. Once you are happy with the palette, removing any that you don’t want by highlighting the squares and touching trash.

Once you’ve saved the swatch you can tweak it in many ways viewing the color in RGB, HSB or Gray, the HEX for the selected color (blue) can also be seen. Whatever you choose whether you want to Tag, Nag or Haggle a product, tagging an item lets you enter a specific price and then get updates via email with price reductions that occur over the next few weeks or months.

4. Foxmarks

Foxmarks is a free web browser add-on that synchronizes bookmarks and passwords across multiple computers. Foxmarks has now come to Safari. The service is designed to make it easy to keep your browser bookmarks synced when using different computers, by linking each browser to your own online repository. It was previously limited to Firefox, but the most recent version now includes support for Safari as well as Internet Explorer on Windows. 5. Speedtile

Speedtile is an online bookmarking service where you can organize and manage your bookmarks in a visual manner. Each bookmark is called a tile since it is in the shape of a tile and it allows you to view an updated snapshot of the URL you have bookmarked. It is simple to use, just click on an empty tile and enter the URL of the page you want to bookmark.

The bookmarks can be categorized by way of tabs. This way, you can arrange them both by subject and relevance. Moreover, shared tabs can be created for those who need to have common access to specific sites either for professional or leisure uses.

6. Krumlr.com

Krumlr is a website centered around shortening and sharing URLs, allowing you to bookmark and tweet about links on Twitter.

Krumlr users can drag a link to their browser that will automatically copy the URL of the open page, then shorten it and append to their comment as a tweet to Twitter. In the same step Krumlr will also categorize, tag and save the “krum” to their Krumlr profile.

7. Zinkmo

Zinkmo is the simple and effective way to organize and automatically synchronize your personal IE Favorites and Firefox Bookmarks across multiple machines. 8. Facette

Facette is a set of tools that is geared towards Delicious users.The free webapp and Firefox plug-in groups your links by what they’re about, media types, and more.

After installing a small Firefox plugin, Facette adds two icons to your status bar - one for bookmarking new pages and one for accessing your bookmarks. The Facette site itself presents both the standard, tag-based view of your bookmarks and Facette’s own, more structured data. Because Facette sits on top of Delicious, all your Facette bookmarks are automatically also available on your default Delicious page. Indeed, Facette works by creating a number of new tags in your Delicious library.

1. Google Searh Option
Google Searh Option is a handy “toolbelt” that lets you slice and dice your search results.
Let’s say you are looking for forum discussions about a specific product, but are most interested in ones that have taken place more recently. That’s not an easy query to formulate, but with Search Options you can search for the product’s name, apply the option to filter out anything but forum sites, and then apply an option to only see results from the past week.

At Google’s Searchology event, which is going on right now, Marissa Mayer listed the following as the hardest unsolved problems in search:
- Finding the most recent information
- Expressing that you want just one type of result
- Assessing which results are best
- Knowing what you’re looking for
- Expressing your searches in keywords

2. SearchMerge
SearchMerge is a tool which allows you to simultaneously search the likes fo Google, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, FriendFeed, Last.FM, Vimeo and Technorati. SearchMerge is the ability to pull in real-time search results from rich media websites. Images, videos, and text will all show up in the same results area, with real-time results showing at the top.  To identify which search engine the result is pulled from, SearchMerge adds a small logo next to the result. Therefore you will have the chance to see at a glance where the information comes out from.

3. DeepDyve.com
DeepDyve.com is a new search engine that is aimed at students, academics, and knowledge workers. DeepDyve’s new tools enable websites and bloggers to quickly and easily display related articles and search results directly within their sites and blog posts. Data sources  are called “Deep Web” or “Dark Web,” for free access where traditional search technologies don’t work.

The DeepDyve search engine enables searches of the Dark Web to more easily find data life sciences, patent, and Wikipedia data. The new engine indexes 500 million pages, said DeepDyve, which was known as Infovell before changing its name on Tuesday.DeepDyve uses a new technology, based on the KeyPhrase algorithm that was used in order to investigate interesting things as the Human Genome. DeepDyve will give users highly applicable results and it is very simple to use.

4. Google Squared
Google Squared extracts data from Web pages and presents them in search results as squares in an online spreadsheet.  Google Squared is an early attempt to take the messy data which exists on the Web and place it into simple tables. It is still very experimental and isn’t always on target, but you can see where this is going. The ability to customize your own square when no results are returned will also probably lead to much better results.

The Google Squared homepage, complete with a Labs icon, offers a search box and a “Square it” button. Suggested searches include “roller coasters”, “strollers”, and “hotels in Paris”.

5. Leapfish
LeapFish is the first multi-dimensional information aggregator and search portal in the world. LeapFish is a search aggregator that retrieves results from other portals and search engines, including Google, Yahoo, Live Search, Blogs, Videos etc. LeapFish is sleek and peppy. It combines the best of standard leading search engines along with an innovative graphical user interface (GUI).

Roosterfly.com has a clear design and gives you three sections where you will get information about sport tickets, as well as concert tickets, in addition to theater tickets.

7. Cleeki
Cleeki is an interesting browser add-on that has already been available on both Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox. Now that extension support is baked in to Google Chrome.

Select any text, and you can search/share/publish immediately and preview results in the same page. Support Google, YouTube, Amazon, FaceBook, Digg, etc. and you can add your own channels. No need to switch programs or web pages. Cleeki opens a picture-in-picture results window. Resubmitting to another site is as painless as clicking its icon. 8. Scoopler
Scoopler lets you do real time search through Twitter, Delicious, Flickr  and Identica in real-time, and not only that; it’s also indexing links, videos and photos from these data sources, which is similar to what Twitter has been planning to do.

You enter a query and the middle field on the page returns auto-updating results based on information coming in. The two columns that surround it give you hot search topics and popular content from around the web. It’s a pretty nice view of what is happening on the web at any given moment.

Scoopler also has some interesting features beyond its search functions. When you hover over a link, for example, you can ‘peek’ at the results without leaving the site, for example, and you can easily share any link right from the results page as well.

9. ReMail

ReMail is an Email startup that offers a comprehensive Email search for the iPhone. ReMail’s featureset is impressive, with an offline mode, autocompletion for your contacts’ names, and a very sensible natural language approach to search queries. Once installed, the app works in an intuitive way indeed. It auto-completes names and makes suggestions whenever you are executing a search, and (best of all) it can even work offline.

ReMail works with any service that supports IMAP – IE, most current e-mail and webmail providers in the market right now. in fact — which means it works well with Gmail.

10. DeeperWeb
DeeperWeb.com is a free search engine tool for Google users that allows navigating through search results by employing Tag Cloud techniques.On this site you will find all the data you need in order to make an accurate and specific search using a variety of Tag-Cloud techniques. In this way you will get all the help you will possibly need to navigate through different search results in a highly effective way.

Feedmil.com is a long tail of feeds to find good feeds for given topics. It analyzed millions blog feeds in the world and classified by popularity, quality, relavance and blog media type such as podcast, video, photo and micro blog (twitter) and social media(Facebook) and so on. Basically, the idea is that small, obscure feeds have an audience as long as the interested people have a way to find them via search technology. The vast majority of sites on the web today come complete with a RSS feed, and it is impossible to keep track of every single one. The search process itself can be refined by way of a provided slider that will let you set a popularity range from “Surprising” to “Well-known”. This way, you will have a chance to check feeds that few people have heard about. At feedmil, it provides not only feed search but also individual feed pages so that users can conveniently examine more details about a feed before they decide whether or not to subscribe to it.

12. TwitZap

TwitZap lets you slice Twitter into channels of stuff that matters to you. This one has real-time tweets and saved searches which the regular Twitter now also has. Channels are the main perk of Twitzap, and it treats your @replies and direct messages as channels, too, combining your incoming and outgoing DMs into one neat list. You can also quickly add trending topics to your channels from right in the sidebar.  Turn the knob all the way left, and the updates will be paused. Other features including chatting over Twitzap.

13. LiteFlick.com

LiteFlick.com, is an easy interface to search for Flickr images. Includes advanced options to search by license type or date posted. It enables you to sort search results by recent, interesting and relevant images. Advanced search options include: search by full text or tags, date on which the image was taken and Creative Commons license of the image. One way or the other, the site is going to provide anybody a fine taster of what Flickr is all about. You can scan through 80 photos in seconds, and easily get more details when you want them. The crucial feature LiteFlick is missing is a Creative-Commons-only search, which would make finding photos for blog posts a whole lot faster.

Yahoo! Widgets is a free application platform for Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows. The software was previously called Konfabulator.Yahoo Widget Engine is incredibly cool, light-weight, easy to use and totally free tool from Yahoo which can turn your desktop into a wonderland for your mouse cursor. Widgets can be alarm clocks, calculators, can tell you your WiFi signal strength, will fetch the latest stock quotes for your preferred symbols, and even give your current local weather. The latest Yahoo Widgets is version 4.5 allows Widget creators to build more awesomeness into their Widgets, including video right on your desktop.

2. Kludgets

Kludgets is a free, open-source widget engine that allows you to put Mac dashboard widgets on your Windows desktop. Some OS X widgets worked just fine with Kludgets—download the ZIP file, right-click Kludgets’ system tray icon, and open the package to get started. Others, especially those that relied on Mac system information or complex web information, were non-starters. Kludgets can auto-run your widgets at start-up, and you can manually hide and show them, but there’s no Mac-style keyboard shortcut to bring up a “shade” with all your widgets—not yet, anyways.

3. Clearspring

Clearspring enables people to easily share content with trusted friends and social groups across popular sites like Facebook, MySpace, iGoogle, Twitter and Digg. Shared content includes Web pages, videos, movie trailers, news, sports updates, trivia quizzes, games and music.

Clearpring’s ConnectedAds service work based off of the Clearspring widget platform, which allows companies and advertisers to create widgets and distribute them across social platforms like MySpace, Facebook, and blogs. The key and the beauty to the ConnectedAds program is its social tracking and analytics.

4. Google Web Elements

Google Web Elements allow users to quickly integrate some of Google’s most popular products, including Calendar, Search, and Maps, directly into their sites with a minimal amount of effort. Much of the same functionality has previously been available through Google APIs

Select a widget you want to include and set one or two options like size, type of content for news etc and you will get the code which you can embed in your web pages. For example see the Google news widget i have included in this post. News widget currently available in only two sizes, 300×250 and 728×90, but you can change the width and height in the code

5. TicTacTi

Casual games may see a vast amount of traffic, but monetizing them can be more than a little tricky due to issues relating to Flash-based game files and the needs of various publishers. TicTacTi is a platform for IVA (In Video Advertising), IGA (In Game Advertising) and widgets which uses image recognition (using standard Flash!) in order to insert In Game Advertising (IGA), enabling game publishers and developers to monetize their assets without the need of additional development or the use of additional Software Development Kit (SDK).

TicTacTi’s image recognition engine seeks these visual events in order to trigger the ad insertion. If the game source already includes TicTacTi’s IGA logo marker (see right), the game preparation stage can be skipped altogether because the image recognition engine will identify it automatically.

6. Comments Box

Facebook has created its first social widget: a fully stylable commenting feature named Comments Box that allows you to add Facebook comments to your website. The Comments Box allows non-Facebook users to make comments on your site as well. And via our APIs, you can access related comments made on Facebook as well to bring the conversation together.”

Instructions for setting up a Comment Box are as follows (via the Facebook developers blog):
1. Set up a basic Connect application. Take note of the API key and specify a callback URL to your website.
2. Download this cross-domain receiver file, and upload it to your website.
Add these snippets of code to each file where you want a Comments Box.
Within the < html > tag, add: xmlns:fb=”http://www.facebook.com/2008/fbml”
Add the following code wherever you want a Comments Box to appear in your page. Replace ”’YOUR_API_KEY_HERE”’ with your API key, and include the path to the cross-domain receiver.

7. CDC Data and Statistics Widget.

CDC Data and Statistics Widget. The Center for Disease Control is one of the leading government agencies making use of web 2.0 tools and services. They are actively working to provides citizens reliable, up-to-date information on health and safety concerns like the peanut butter recall and flu activity. As part of their social media efforts, the CDC has available a number of widgets to add to your blog or home page.

Widgets are online applications built by one Web site that can be displayed onto another Web site. The newest widgets include the Flu Updates, Emergency Text Messages and the CDC Data and Statistics Widget. You can embed content in personalized home pages, blogs, and other sites. Once you’ve added the widget, there’s no technical maintenance. CDC.gov will update the content automatically.

4. Yahoo! Search Pad

Yahoo! Search Pad can be used for Web research (online research) and note taking. Search Pad is similar in concept to Google Notebook.Users can edit, delete and re-order notes they have taken about a particular search topic. That information can then be printed out or sent in an email to coworkers, friends and families. Notes can also be saved and accessed at a later date via a user’s Yahoo ID.

The differentiator, which will make or break Yahoo SearchPad, is that it relies largely on attention data to automatically collect research for you. As for example when you’re researching a new car.  SearchPad will automatically appear if it notices that you’re clicking a lot of related links or spending lots of time on pages about cars. In any case you can look at demo or presentation.

5. Quotepad

QuotePad gives a very interesting notepad that can be used to better organizing your online day by day work especially when in internet. In particular this light freeware allows you also to copy and paste large amounts of texts from web-pages and automatically recording the web-address.

You  just select some text in any application, press a couple of keys and the selected text will be saved to Quotepad together with the URL of the webpage it was copied from.

6. Gubb

Gubb offers a lot more options and room for creativity. Gubb works very intuitively, only that notes are called lists. Of course you can add items to your list and edit them, additionally you can add a comment, a due date, rate each item or move it to another list.

It is so quick to add a to-do, then cross it off and either delete it or archive it when it’s been done. The one feature that would be nice for Gubb to add, would be the ability to add sub-tasks, under a main task. Gubb has the ability to email, text, print, etc. for each list. Texting the shopping list to a cell phone is a nice, green idea.

7. Evernote

Evernote allows  to access and take notes from three different locations — a web browser, a stand-alone software application, and an iPhone application. Evernote is fabulous. It’s great for noting anything from the ‘net–w/a click, it copies a whole web page, or selected text/images. You can use it off-line and sync it w/online app. Probably be good as journal-type thing, too

Recently Evernot launched Evernote for the BlackBerry. It  requires OS 4.6 or higher. That means, you must have a BlackBerry Bold, a BlackBerry Storm (ick) or the new Blackberry Curve 8900.

8. Zoho’s Notebook

Zoho’s Notebook is probably one of the best services for ex-Google Notebookers to flock to if only for its collaborative features. Several people can work on the same notebook at once, and it combines a handful of Zoho’s other Web productivity services into one place.

The company also added the ability to link between notebooks, record audio and video, and chat with other Zoho users through a new instant-messaging application built into the software. Zoho, of course, could be an excellent collaboration space. With its media richness and Skype integration,

9. PicoNote

PicoNote is basic but highly usable note taking mobile web app. PicoNote is an offline and online note taking program using which you can easily write and read your notes from the web, your desktop or mobile phone. Ubernote works in all major browsers, has both an installable toolbar and a bookmarklet that lets you do the clipping. You can access it from the Web or on your mobile phone, and everything you create can be shared with others both in public and private groups. One thing that makes Ubernote particularly attractive is that it lets you download your notes as an HTML file.

NameChk is an interesting application which can be used to search for the availability of usernames on 106 sites in one go—so you can own your online presence. What’s really impressive about this service is the speed. In a few sample searches, it averaged about 8 seconds from start to finish. And you don’t even have to wait to see all the results because they stream in as it does its business. NameChk can be useful to promote your brand by registering the same name on every single site, or to help you find usernames which are still available on most of the sites.

2. DandyID.org

5. Cliqset

Cliqset is launching the second beta version of its online identity platform with some nifty new features.Its the platform aims to stitch together the social web by allowing users and developers build, organize and share social information across a wide variety of services.

After signing up, new Cliqset members can connect their Cliqset identity with their pre-existing Google , Plaxo, and Yahoo accounts, which means those contacts can be pulled into Cliqset and grouped into relationships.

Cliqset uses the OAuth data standard to do all this, so it doesn’t even have to ask for your password to the networks you want to connect. Cliqset also gives users the ability to add and manage email addresses, messages, status updates, multiple OpenIDs, and authorize applications to use their Cliqset identity. Users can also expect integration with Outlook, and mobile access to their contacts and identity from the available iPhone and Windows Mobile applications.

6. GizaPage

3. Kludgets

Kludgets a free, open-source widget engine that allows you to put Mac dashboard widgets on your Windows desktop. With this program, you can install on your system, all done Widget for MAC and use them quietly without any conflict. On the author’s site you’ll find four basic widgets to get you started and there are plenty of places to find more on the net - like WidgetWorld and Apple’s own Dashboard downloads.  Kludgets can auto-run your widgets at start-up, and you can manually hide and show them, but there’s no Mac-style keyboard shortcut to bring up a “shade” with all your widgets.

5. MindTouch 2009

MindTouch 2009 is an enhanced developer platform for rapidly building rich collaborative applications and communities from MindTouch. With the newest release, developers are more able than ever to develop and deploy a new breed of collaborative applications for business automation.

The new functionality includes:
*Aurelia Reporter - allows users to “publish” content from desktop applications like Visio, Powerpoint, Excel and Quickbooks as MindTouch 2009 pages. Publishing is accomplished via an option on the print menu.
*Desktop Connector - looks similar to MS Explorer and it enables users to drag-and-drop content from the desktop to MindTouch 2009. Individual items or entire folders (maintaining hierarchy) can be moved in this manner.
*MS Word and Outlook Connectors - allow one-click publishing of content, including full email threads, to MindTouch.

The new system also offers a broad assortment of options for sending push notifications when content within the platform is changed. The notifications can be delivered through a number of channels, ranging from e-mail to Twitter.

6. Grape

Grape makes you much easier to organize and search your files and folders. Once you’ve downloaded the app, you can launch it and start working with all the files, getting things organized, etc. The idea is that any file you drop onto the desktop automatically turns into a preview of that file - images, text documents, videos, and so on. You can then manipulate these previews by resizing them, moving them around, or flipping them over to edit their metadata and properties - this includes folders.  It also allows you to group these files by dragging a box around it and give name   and colourise its ‘box’. If you enlarge them or zoom in enough, you basically get the Quick Look view.

7. Prism

Prism (formerly, Webrunner) is a prototype application that lets users split web applications out of their browser and run them directly on their desktop. Version 1.0 of the Prism Firefox extension is a Firefox extension that allows you to transform web applications into desktop ones.To use Prism, you need to go to the Tools menu on Firefox and select “convert to web application” for the website you’re on, i.e. YouTube or Gmail. You can create desktop shortcuts and tray icons to reach your app. Prism also comes as a stand-alone application, which just allows you to create web apps from the desktop. Prism is already in use in a number of web-to-desktop applications like Yahoo’s Zimbra mail client.

If you’d like to create some stand-alone web apps, just download the latest version of Prism. Then visit the site you’d like to isolate into it’s own app and head to Firefox’s Tools menu where you’ll find a new option “Convert website to application.”

8. BumpTop

Bumptop is a 3D application that allows users to group and stack icons, “pin them up” as you would on a real
desk and even fling them against each other. BumpTop will come in two versions: a free, somewhat restricted version, and a fully-featured ‘pro’ version. BumptTop enables users to flip through piles of files with your mouse-wheel, or through an actual flipping motion if you have a touch-screen, and its highly intuitive pie menu system, which you invoke to sort files on the desktop or to create new piles. Users can even throw files against each other, and the bigger files will plow through the smaller files like a car through a rain puddle.

BumpTop has added a number of new features, including drag and drop support for Twitter and Facebook.  You can drop a picture onto the big Twitter or Facebook icons on your desktop, and they will be uploaded to Twitpic and/or your Facebook photo account.

9. LiteStep

LiteStep is one of the oldest remaining Windows shell replacements.   LiteStep replaces your desktop interface in just about any way that you might find useful (and eye catching). Once you’ve installed LiteStep, your start menu and desktop icons will be replaced entirely with the LiteStep skin you’ve chosen in this theme, the desktop context menu is turned into a customized launcher, and the tray icons are hidden until you mouse over the clock.

A theme for LiteStep is a collection of configurations, scripts and images stored in a .zip or .lsz file that, when installed, change the visual style of the desktop. When using recent themes with a recent version of LiteStep, installation is automatic.

10. StockMarketWatch

Rainmeter is another free system monitor and desktop enhancement tool for creating a fully customized desktop HUD on Windows. Rainmeter configuration StockMarketWatch embeds a widget on the desktop to track your favorite stocks. Using this configuration requires first downloading and installing the latest version of Rainmeter, and then extracting the config into the Rainmeter -> Skins folder. Once you’ve launched Rainmeter, you can enable the widget from the tray icon context menu’s Config item—and then drag the widget anywhere on the desktop that you’d like. It is easilt to  hack the widget to display the stocks you want, change or remove the background image, or pretty much anything you can come up with—just open up the INI file and start making some changes.

The system parses out dates and locations as downloadable calendar items and map links. It also creates catalogs of media items (pictures and videos) and files that are attached to messages.  Cc:Betty organizes all the attachments and keeps the threaded conversation going for everyone who gets the email.

8. EmailCover.com

Think about the daily mail spam you get. Often this spam is embedded with viruses, hoaxes, malacious scripts, adwares and spywares which can harm you computer and can steal your personal information like credit card number etc. EmailCover is a simple email to image converter which intends to solve this problem by hiding and masking email address in a CAPTCHA image so that the spam bots cannot read it. Using this service couldn’t really be easier. You just key in your address and bang the button named “Create image”. You will then be redirected to an image view page where you can procure the pertinent image links.

9. OtherInbox

OtherInbox is a new way to manage email overload. Instead of giving you a single email address, OtherInbox gives you the ability to create multiple addresses in your own subdomain (myusername.otherinbox.com). These addresses can be used to sign up anywhere. The service officially supports Firefox, Chrome, Safari, and (for those of you stuck at work) Internet Explorer. OtherInbox sorts out your email into different folders (as seen above). Once your email is sorted out into different folders, you can read the emails, delete them, or (one of the potentially more interesting features) “block” further email to address.

iCloud is an impressive web application. It’s an OS-like desktop, complete with storage space and a Microsoft Office-like application suite, that runs in a browser that you can access from anywhere. iCloud is a new but intriguing addition to the cloud-based desktop roster, with tools that allow you to store not just your files online, but the applications you access them with. iCloud applications are written in Ajax, like Google Apps, but iCloud applications run entirely in a 2MB virtual machine loaded into the user’s browser.The system has built-in Instant Messaging and news feeds and is available in English, Chinese, Russian, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Swedish and Filipino languages. The free version of iCloud gives users 3GB of storage space and a WebDAV backup feature, enabling file synchronisation across different systems. This means, for instance, that a user could synchronise files between an iCloud desktop and a physical desktop.

2. Zoho Writer 2.0

Like Google Docs, Zoho offers a suite of apps to create online documents, spreadsheets and presentations (plus databases), but their sharing features are much better. Not only can you invite others to view or edit documents, but you can create groups to make them easier to manage. Zoho recently rolled out Zoho Writer 2.0, comprising of a serious overhaul of the menu and writing interface and features pulled from user requests.

Zoho Writer 2.0 includes tabs for Format, Insert, Review, Share, Views and Page Setup. Commonly used features like Save, Undo/Redo, Cut/Copy/Paste and so on are grouped together to the left of the MenuTabs, so that they’re always accessible.
Other interface enhancements include an enhanced sidebar, improved header/footer with auto-fill support, and more document info with a live word count displayed in the status bar.

3. Box.net  Web Documents

Box.net has launched a new service called Web Documents that’s something of a cross between a word processor and a simple HTML editor. Web Document by Box.Net is another web document services that allows users to create, edit and share simple document online. The Box.net Web Document is quite similar with regular Microsoft Word Documents except it not features with downloading to view and are much smaller in size. You can share the docs with others by sending a link, or you can invite other Box.net users to edit the document.

Once a file is uploaded to Box.net, it’s easy to grab and edit from any desktop browser or mobile device. The service is consistently fast and available. Plans range from free to enterprise solutions. While the free version is functional with 1 GB of storage space, it may be worth the upgrade to the $7.95/month Individual plan for the faster uploads alone.

MilestonePlanner.com is a simple, graphical way to agree and track key deliverables in your project.  It has  nice drag-and-drop interface makes it really easy to use. It will handle multiple projects, and you can export your plans to send them to colleagues or use them in presentations or other documents.Milestones also bear a color that is used to showcase the possible issues and risks at play. The actual progress of the project itself bears a related colored code that will let you know how everything is taking shape, and take any necessary measures to get everything in track.

5. DocShots.
DocShots. The new tool is designed for web publishers who want to be able to share Word, Excel, PDF, or other documents with their readers without redirecting visitors to a new page or pasting a huge embedded document viewer on a web page.

DocShots is a free service that installs a snippet of code on your website or blog that lets users browse a document overlaid on top of your content without downloading it. To install Docshots, site owners must drop in special code into the body of their site’s template. Once it’s been added, the tool goes live on all your pages, both new and old. Like Snap’s previews, links that have been given the Docshots treatment get a little orange page logo beside them to let you know it’s not a normal URL.

One nice feature is that when you add the DocShots code to your site’s template, it will enable this on-page viewing functionality for all of the document links already on your site. The service supports a variety of file types, including .doc (Microsoft Word), .pdf (Adobe PDF), .ppt (Microsoft PowerPoint) and .xls (Microsoft Excel)

6. Apple’s iWork

iWork.com allows Apple iWork users to upload documents to a web based version of the application for collaboration with other parties — including Windows users. Apple is releasing this as a free beta

iWork.com allows multiple users to view and comment on documents through a slick Web interface and download shared documents in iWork, Microsoft Office or PDF formats. Once uploaded, documents retain their visual integrity and can be edited or revised on the site by any number of users.The available templates are striking and cover a variety of home and business projects, offering new users excellent starting points. Numbers, for example, includes several spreadsheet templates for purposes users might not even think about, such as tracking their diets or workouts, creating a home inventory or even building a math quiz.

7. SkyDrive

SkyDrive is a file storage and sharing service that allows users to upload files to the computing cloud, then access them from a web browser. Several updates to Windows Live SkyDrive which begin happening recently.It goes live with 25GB of Space. SkyDrive  uses Windows Live ID to control access to the user’s files, allowing them to keep the files private, share with contacts, or make the files public. Windows Live allows you to keep updated with what your friends on Live, Facebook, and LinkedIn are up to, and SkyDrive is no different. Your main SkyDrive page will let you know if any of your contacts have opened up a file for public sharing, and you can organize contacts into categories for easy group sharing—so everyone can be sent his/her latest report at once, with one click.

8. EtherPad

EtherPad offers real-time editing and collaboration of plain text documents. It includes a mini chat room and shows each user’s edits with their own color in real time. Also nice is the ability to save and restore revisions.It’s comparable to Google Docs or a wiki, but it’s far more useful. You start off by creating a new workspace. You type basic text on numbered lines at will. Then invite someone else in and have them type as well. Each user’s edits are highlighted a different color. Finally, another feature that merits mentioning is an unlimited “Undo” command that can be implemented no matter who did the last edition, or when it was done.Users can also chat in the sidebar, save versions and make a few tweaks to the settings like removing line numbers.

9. ThinkFree

ThinkFree provides a slick suite of online apps like Zoho and Google Docs. You can use the web versions of their apps or install a desktop client that syncs with your online account which will allow you to work offline. Thinkfree allows you to do everything just like the full blown Microsoft Office suite.
