<itunes:subtitle>Welcome to My Life As a Foodie</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>In my first episode, I welcome you to the podcast and let you know what to expect - call it a primer. I give you a background on my obsession with food and cooking. I spew my disdain for the Food Network and how it's become the MTV for foodies. While I still watch, I fill you in on who I like, and who I don't, and I tell you why I still think it's the best network on television. Then I take you on my journey to a Japanese Noodle House. Before I do, I rant a little on Vegans who think they're better than us carnivores, and I warn you that I'm not afraid to eat the nasty bits.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>I'm back. Sorry for the delay. So I decided that on this show we're going to actually cook something. I figured why not - right? Let's cook some food. I'm going to share my Grandmother's recipe for sauce with meatballs. It's nothing you haven't seen before, probably. But it's what we had every Sunday when I was growing up. In addition, we take a trip to the local Farmer's Market and buy fresh vegetables and farm fresh eggs. The vendors are extremely helpful, and we find some vegetables that we've not seen before. Find local Farmer's Markets in your area at http://www.farmersmarket.com. I've grown tired with The Next Food Network Star, but I can't stop watching. Listen to me rant, and give suggestions for alternative quality food programming that you may (or may not) already know is available. Top Chef is a far better show, and is everything Food Network should be adopting.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:author>Zeroface Project</itunes:author>
<itunes:subtitle>The Maharaja</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>This time, it’s about West Coast India Pale Ale and white IPA Chicken Chili. We’re drinking two great IPAs and making a white chicken chili with the IPA as well. They go great together. Bring the heat! I’m also introducing a new segment called “Food News.” We read an interesting story about a homebrewer who’s invented Pizza Beer, with mixed reactions. Also, Disney dumps their plan of marketing wine with the Ratatouille rat on it, which irritates me. Finally, a discussion about the current outbreak of botulism. The two IPAs we’re having are The Maharaja Imperial Pale Ale from Avery Brewing in Boulder, Colorado, and Thunderhead IPA from Pyramid Breweries. Their both fantastic, but the Maharaja is an absolute hop bomb - over 100 IBUs. Oh, and if you don’t know what an IBU is, or an IPA, don’t worry - I’ll explain it.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>New American cuisine is a term for upscale, contemporary cooking in the United States. It includes ethnic twists on old standbys, Old World peasant dishes made from luxurious American ingredients. My wife and I recently visited Ad Hoc restaurant in Yountville, California. Owned by Thomas Keller, you’re served from a chef’s menu - which means your eating whatever they’re cooking that day. Trust the chef. Always trust the chef.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>A recent trip to the midwest was enlightening to say the least. Surrounded by acres upon acres of farmland, what I ate was less than stellar. We make Beer Braised Beef over Cheesy Polenta, which pairs well with Founder’s Breakfast Stout. A recent post I read in defense of PETA sets me off a bit, as does the fallout from a short documentary that covered the August floods that destroyed organic crops in Minnesota and Wisconsin.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:subtitle>Sausage Party</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>Today, we're making Italian sausage. Making sausage can either be simple, or complicated. But it's delicious regardless. Basically, it's ground meat with seasonings and spices, allowed to marinate and cure, then cooked and enjoyed. King Corn is a documentary about two friends, one acre of corn, and the subsidized crop that drives our fast-food nation. In King Corn, Ian Cheney and Curt Ellis, best friends from college on the east coast, move to the heartland (basically where I spent a few days earlier this Fall in Food Hell) to learn where their food comes from. There's also a discussion on a recent episode of Bobby Flay's "Boy Meets Grill" and a flippant remark about where Florida Stone Crab claws come from that I feel needs a bit more explanation.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:author>Zeroface Project</itunes:author>
<itunes:subtitle>Korean BBQ</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>Join me as I visit a Korean market and purchase items for a semi-traditional Korean BBQ meal. We make beef bulgogi with rib eye steak, along with some spicy kimchi, a seaweed salad, and fish cakes. I also enjoy some Soju on the show and try two different varieties. Soju is the national drink of Korea, and it tastes like a light vodka. Very easy to drink, and easy to get in trouble with. I give a little more information than you probably need on this drink, but we’re nothing on this show if not educational. There’s also a discussion of Chris Cosentino and his San Francisco-based restaurant Incanto. Chris made it to the final 3 on The Next Iron Chef competition on Food Network. He recently appeared on an episode of “Modern Marvels” on the History Channel, which focused on “OFFAL” - cooking the less than desirable cuts of the pig. I play a brief segment of his appearance on that show. Check the whole thing out on the History Channel if you’re interested.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:author>Zeroface Project</itunes:author>
<itunes:subtitle>Hamburgers</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>It's our last show of the year, so we figured what a better time than to drink a beer given to us as a gift last year around this time. It's St. Nikolaus Bock Bier from Penn Brewing in Pittsburgh, which was sent to us from the boys at Should I Drink That? And nothing goes better with a beer like this than a thick juicy hamburger. So we're talking about hamburgers - particularly, a pressed Cuban burger that Bobby Flay makes. There's a discussion of farm raised fish, and how far these growers have come in emulating the flavor of wild fish. We also discuss the dangers of buying generic ground beef, and young vegetarians. No, not buying young vegetarians - that came out wrong. Seriously. Oh, and it's never too late to shop for Christmas gifts. And if you want to make the meat-eater in your life happy, get them a year's subscription to the Bacon of the Month Club. It's the gift that keeps on giving the whole year long.</itunes:summary>

So this week we're preparing their Shrimp Cakes with Corn Relish, and pairing it with a beer far more worthy than Bud Light - Saison D'epeature from Brasserie De Blaugies in Dour, Belgium. It's a Farmhouse Saison brewed by a husband-and-wife team who are schoolteachers, and in their part time brew beer in their garage and sell it throughout Belgium.</itunes:summary>

I ask Shaun what the process is to start a farm. What hoops do you have to jump through? How much support do they get from the US government? How much land is required to turn a profit? What are your expenses? Is it more profitable to raise animals, or grow produce? He provides in-depth information on this and more.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>It's a good question, actually. And I get it a lot. So I am here to answer it. And in this episode I pose the question to you. Are you a foodie, or are you an eater? Listen and find out just where you stand. Paula Deen is out to kill anyone who watches her show, or follows her recipes. And if you refuse to believe me, I have further audio proof. Again, the difference between a foodie and an eater - or a hillbilly for that matter. And our dearest Padma, cashing in on her celebrity, has really taken a leap off the deep end. Not that it makes us love her any less, but a collective WTF is in order when you hear what she's done now.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>In my recent visit to Sacramento, which will be the topic of discussion in the next episode of the show, I got a fantastic opportunity to visit with Scott Cramlet, brewmaster at Rubicon Brewing Company. This was made possible through Rick Sellers, of Pacific Brew News. Rubicon Brewing's owner Glynn Phillips is truly passionate about brewing, having been involved with homebrewing since the age of 15. Yes, that's right - 15. Rick and I visit with Scott for half an hour, and I appreciate him taking the time out of his busy day to discuss Rubicon's history, day to day operations, and varieties of beer that they brew. We learn that Rubicon was not only the first brewery to brew a Wheat Wine, but also the brewery where the now infamous Racer 5 IPA got it's start.
