We took our time walking through Palenque. We had a snack and ate lunch, did a little shopping and just made a whole day out of the visit.

This butterfly landed on Pepper while she was buying some things from a woman. At first it didn’t want to pose well for the camera. But it soon figured it out and wouldn’t leave us alone! Someone walking by asked if it was dead!

She’s well traveled and loves to see historical sites. And she tolerates my interest of natural features too!

This area of Palenque has few visitors hanging around. In fact, many of the places we went were quite free of overwhelming crowds.

We tried to make sure we got pictures of each other and of both of us around the ruins. Unfortunately, i sweat like crazy so it looks like i’m at a waterpark while wearing my shirt in most of the pictures of me!

Many of the ruins we saw had only partial restoration. It is difficult to imagine assembling a three-dimensional jigsaw puzzle without a box to look at! Add a thousand years of vegetation and erosion too!

After walking up the wooded trail along the stream we emerged to the northern cluster of buildings.
