Today, we look at a common sitcom situation taken to extremes in digital, drawn form. We aren’t wasting electrons here, folks.

The whole toilet thing is as old as time (or at least as old as the toilet itself), and yes, it’s a tired trope that will continue on until there is a toilet which automatically removes waste from you using some form of teleportation, iPhone app, or magical wish crystal.

We can dream.

Zing will be wrapping up its regulary scheduled comic and will update at random times until we become millionaires off this thing or our domain runs out (whichever comes first).

See you soon!

Hey we can ask, right?

I’m a huge fan of the Metroid franchise (except for Metroid Prime: Hunters and Other M), and Samus has always been relevant to my interests. Seriously, if you’ve never played Super Metroid, you might as well cut up your GamerCard and cash in your GamerCred, because you just lost both.

As for Mass Effect, I described in a previous rant that I didn’t play any of the previous ones or the current one, however I am the first to admit that Fem Shep (or is it FemShep?) is pretty hot for a bunch of ones and zeroes.

If there are artist out there who want to draw them in schoolgirl outfits kissing each other, feel free – I won’t stop you. Heck, I’ll endorse you. I’ll even take cosplay versions; I’m flexible.

REMINDER, we’ll be wrapping up regularly scheduled comics soon, and then we’ll be on a limited schedule. As always, you’ll be the first to know.

See you next week!

Today’s comic deals with our foray into pitching an anime series. Well, not really pitching, more like suggesting or perhaps wishfully thinking. Either way, this idea is bound to make us millions of yens and will allow us to buy Chilled Panty Flavored Pocky (which, I don’t think is an actual flavor, but I’m not doing a Google search to find out).

Hey anime studios – take a look at our comic and tell us what you think. We’ll sell the rights dirt cheap! Gainax, Bones – I’m looking at you.

And now a word about the comic: We’ve got about half a dozen more comics, then we will go on what Steve calls “VG Cats schedule”. What this means is that we will no longer be updating the comic on a weekly basis, we’ll update it “as needed”. This doesn’t mean that we’ll be permanently going away to the land of wind and ghosts, but Steve and I have other projects that we will be working on, and we’ve only got so much bandwidth.

We will let you know when the last regularly scheduled comic is, and what you can do to handle the soul-crushing depression that will surely follow. At Zing!, we care.

That’s it for today. See you next week!

So here we are again, with more anime references for your consumption.

Before you ask, there are actually anime versions of Supernatural and Highlander. Haven’t had a chance to watch them, but then again it would help if I had any interest in either one of those shows. Not saying that they are bad, but not my thing. I got enough of Highlander after the second movie (and a little of the television series; both live action and animated), and I couldn’t get into Supernatural (I saw about five episodes and was bored – I suspect that I’m not the target audience).

The idea of anime versions of American IPs is nothing new, heck all you need to do is get a copy of The Animatrix and you’re pretty much good to go. I find that translating American stuff into anime is fairly hit-or-miss whereas translating anime to a live action American version usually ends up in disaster.

The bad pun on the third panel is completely my fault. Feel free to send me any hate mail you have.

See you next time!

This comic deals with relics of the past, not the kind that hold unforeseen danger or terrifying ghosts like the Ark of the Covenant.

Well, there may be terrifying ghosts in the empty bowels within the old Montgomery Wards building that has since been repurposed as a Sears, and then a Dick’s Sporting Goods; might want to get Ghost Hunters on that one.

See, a couple weeks ago I had thought about King’s Table and remembered when my parents would take me there on occasion. I hadn’t thought about it in a long time and I guess these thoughts mutated into the comic.

It may be the nostalgia talking, but I really missed eating there. I remember the food being pretty good, but then again, I was probably like ten or so when I ate there last. It was right next door to a drive-in theater.

Ye gods I’m old.

For those who don’t know, Anna Miller’s is a chain (I’m not sure that’s exactly the right word, as I think they only have like two left) of restaurants which were well known for their waitress uniforms. As for the food, to me it seemed like it was a Japanese version of Denny’s. There’s an Anna Miller’s in Hawaii, but it’s a hell of a drive for me just to check it out.

This comic celebrates the possible opposite of the typical maid cafe, where young girls (and depending on which location/prefecture you end up in, young men) dress up in cute maid outfits and serve you foodstuffs while being generally pleasant to you and hoping that you tip well. Can’t say I’ve every experienced an actual maid cafe (even in an anime convention setting), but it might be interesting.

I read some time ago that someone over in Japan opened up a cafe where you can pet bunnies after your meal as a means of relaxation. I like the whole petting cute fuzzy things, so I think I would like that more than girls dressed up in maid outfits pretending that my jokes are funny.

See you next week!

This comic is based kinda sorta off actual events.

I was with my girlfriend and we went out to a Mexican restaurant. It’s a place we’ve been to on several occasions, and we had never had a bad meal (until that day, but more on that later). We sat down, and as I started to booze it up, my girlfriend notices a guy doing balloon animals. This guy was dressed in clownish style clothing and working the floor (so to speak) offering kids their choice of balloon animals. He came to the table next to us and started doing his thing. Once he was done, he came by our table and started talking about things that had nothing to do with the construction of balloon animals.

“So, I don’t know where my car keys are, my girlfriend is bitching at me and you know I don’t want to do this.”

Thankfully our food came that very minute. Unfortunately, we must of hit the place during a full moon or something, because the food was awful. Worst pozole I’ve ever had – and let’s not started on my girlfriends chile rellenos.

Yeah, it’s a bad joke, but what do you want for free? I won’t bother explaining the fine intricacies of the joke; if you are in the know, you got it.

Let’s start with The Hunger Games. I haven’t watched the movie, but I’ll probably catch it once it gets to the cheap theaters or when it becomes available for streaming/rental. I have a slight interest in what all the hubbub is, but truth be told I watched The Hunger Games ten years ago when it was called Battle Royale (which I really liked for some sick reason), and although I’m told that there are slight differences between the two, I can’t say I’m all for revisiting the same type of story. I could be wrong and there may be more to it, but as this is the first of what will undoubtedly be a trilogy of movies (or a teratology as movie studios are keen in splitting up the final book in a series into two separate movies – see Twilight and Harry Potter), I’m not exactly looking forward to spending eight hours watching this stuff.

As for the Pulp Fiction parody in the comic, well, I really liked Pulp Fiction (I think it’s the best Quentin Tarantino movie out there (Kill Bill really lost steam near the end, and I think he falls in love with his dialogue too much to move some of his movies forward; see Death Proof). I want to see Inglourious Basterds, but as with a majority of my movie watching, I’ll get around to it eventually.

That’s it. See you next week!

I’ve been told by my mother that I would be an excellent father. Not sure what she’s basing this on, but who am I to argue? She must see something in me that I don’t. I actually don’t have any children (well, ones I know about; thankfully I haven’t received any mysterious Father’s Day cards).

I honestly wouldn’t know how to handle kids. I already have issues with holding infants (I’m afraid I’ll break them), and wouldn’t know what to do once they pass the infant stage (which is what, larval? I’m not sure).

Anyway, glad to see you back and enjoying the latest comic. See you next week!

Today’s comic is part wordplay, part possible future DLC Shepards for Mass Effect 3, part internet thingy. It’s all those things and more (along with the tired cliché).

I have quite a few friends who have played the Mass Effect series, and from what I’ve heard, they are very good games. I personally haven’t played them (I personally have a beef with Electronic Arts and haven’t bought a game from them in a very long time), but from what everyone has been telling me, this has been a bad mistake on my part and I should have been playing them (since it is Bioware and all).

This also means that I’ve never played Burnout 3. Not that it matters, it’s not on the backward compatibility list for the Xbox360, and I don’t feel like setting up my Xbox to play it.

It sounds silly to have a “beef” with a video game publisher, especially since my lack of giving them money hasn’t really hurt them. Maybe it’s the principle of the thing. Activision is also on this “shit list” as well. I don’t think I’ve bought an Activision game in like five years. Maybe I should just get past all these things and start experiencing all these games that passed me by.

Or I could continue being a stubborn ass and hold firm on my priciples. That’s an option, too.

See you next week.
