If you are someone who would like to ensure more security on their iPhone, then you really should look into jailbreaking. The Cydia store contains a number of advanced packages that can actually assist in securing your device. One of the latest packages to be added to the jailbreak store is called iPrivacy. This tweak attempts to take a leaf out of the desktop OS book by introducing a usable guest mode onto all jailbroken iOS devices.

This tweak comes about as the number of people who share their devices with friends and family increases. Once you download and install iPrivacy, it won't matter if someone resprings your device, reboots it or even powers it off and back on again, they will never be able to access prohibited parts of your device. Google Now For iOS On The Way?

According to a leaked video on YouTube last night, Google Now for iOS could be on its way. This leaked video was subsequently pulled from YouTube but it still mananged to get peope talking about how Google may just be about to bring its latest addition to iOS.

The promotional video which did in fact look very real features a voice over that sounds just like the original Now announcement video and it shows what appears to be a Google Now on the iPhone with text proclaiming the the iPad will also be able to take advantage of Google's Siri-like functionality.

Even though this video has now been pulled from YouTube there were a few people that managed to download it and spread the news. According to this video which has as yet to be verified, Google Now will be bundled with Google's existing Search app for the iPhone and iPad. The Now feature will be started by swiping up from the bottom of the screen the same way it works on Android. The big difference is of course the Google Now will not be built into the operating system and as such users will have to launch it in order to use.

Google Now is an integral part of recent Android updates and is sure to be an important part of Google Glass when the device launches. Bringing Google Now to the competition may seem like madness but you have to remember who Google actually is. The aim of the game is to gather as much information as possible and then use this information to target advertisements. Whether these ads are on iOS or Android doesn't matter because the end result is still the same as far as Google is concerned.

It remains to be seen whether iOS users will be keen to use Google Now and there has been no word from Google as to the video's authenticity just yet. We jsut hope it is legitimate and we can't wait to see what Google Now will bring.

How To Set Important iOS Banner Notifications As Sticky On iPhone

Banner based alerts were introduced with iOS 5 and they wre met with a very positive reaction. That being said, Cydia wouldn't be as popular as it is if new features couldn't be enhanced by the jailbreaking community. The Sticky Icky package has just been released and this is a tweak where developers have attempted to make Apple's banner alerts a little bit better.

The banners and alerts were created intending to work hand in hand with the Notification Center hub that was also introduced with iOS 5. When a user receives a notification, a temporary banner is displayed at the top of the screen with the intention of notifying the user while not distracting them or drawing focus away from the app that is currently running. When a user installs Sticky Icky which is a new jailbreak tweak the banners and notifications become sticky and they remain stuck to the top of the display. It will remain here until users decide to either tap the banner and invoke the relevant alert action or dismiss the banner from view altogether. The main purpose of this tweak appears to be to bring a more permanent state of visibility to incoming notifications.

This package works really well and will help anyone who has suffered from missed alerts in the past. When you install this tweak you also get a dismiss button to the right hand side of the incoming banner alert and if this is tapped on it immediately removes the banner from view. Sticky Icky is available free of charge from the ModMyi repository and you must have a jailbroken device running iOS 5.0 or above.

Jailbreak Apps – iPhone Tweak Lets You Choose Contacts For iMessage Read Receipts

It is great to see when jailbreaks are made available how Cydia is suddenly refreshed and a list of brand new packages is made available. It is great to see that a number of developers are now taking an interest in enhancing Apple's native iMessaging service too. The brand new SelectiveReading tweak is one of the latest third party apps that tries to enhance the iMessaging service.

The name of this app which is only available to those with a jailbroken idevice pretty much gives away what it is intended for. In a native installation of iOS, the user simply has the option to enable or disable read receipts for sent iMessages. SelectiveReading changes this default functionality by giving the user the power to decide who gets read receipts. This tweak essentially hooks into the messaging of the system and implements a new “ask” feature relating to read recipts. SelectiveReading also adds a contact based override system that allows users to set the specific rules on a per contact basis.

If you want to have your read receipts turned off but still want a few select contacts to be informed when their message has been read then this tweak is perfect. SelectiveReading is available to download at just $0.99 from the Big Boss Repository and is compatible with iOS 5 and iOS 6.

Stop Google Chrome Crashing On Jailbroken Devices

Yesterday we saw Google roll out a new update via the App store for it's Chrome browser. Prior to this everything was fine but this new update has brought more than users were expecting. The latest Chrome update introduced some long-press based gestures as well as new sharing features. What the release notes for this update didn't mention however, was that jailbroken users would pay the price for “security” amendments.

People who regularly use Chrome on their jailbroken devices started to notice that their beloved browser was being disturbed when launching the updated Chrome app and this resulted in an immediate crash back to the home screen. After some investigation by Jay Freeman and developer Paul Griffin, it has become apparent that Google has introduced some untested jailbreak detection code into Chrome and this results in all jailbroken devices trying to use Chrome crashing everytime they launch it.

While enhanced security is always a good thing when it comes to mobile apps, even the most security conscious would agree that crashing and not even letting jailbroken devices use the app is going a little too far. The problem with this new version of Chrome seems to occur in the actual jailbreak detection code that has been included and the code automatically assumes that users have agreed to send usage data back to Google, whereas in reality, it is turned off by default.

Right now there is no perfect fix but Google have confirmed that we should see an update hitting the app store soon to resolve this issue. In the meantime, affected users are faced with the reality of having to allow Chrome to “send usage data”. It is also suggested that for the interim period users should remove all third-party Chrome based Cydia tweaks. You can follow the simple steps below to enable the usage data feedback options to allow Chrome to work again.

The first thing you need to do is launch the Google Chrome for iOS app. Once it launches, select the Menu button that is located immediately on the right hand side of the omnibox before selecting the Settings option. Scroll down and select the Privacy option which is located under the Advanced heading, select Send Usage Data. You need to make sure that you have either Always or Only on Wi-Fi selected from the list.

It is important to say that you need to do all this before the app crashes.

PhotoMagic For iPhone – Image Editing And Instagram Like Effects

If you love taking photos and then manipulating them on your iPhone then you need to check out PhotoMagic for iPhone. This new app comes from Softease Tech and delivers on all fronts. It comes with a very user friendly interface and is jam packed with great image editing features and Instagram like effects.

On your first use of this app you will be given two options. You can select an image you have already taken from your camera roll or take a new photo. Once you ahve choose your options you will then get to go through a seemingly endless number of filters and tint effects. Some are better than others but because of the large amount, we know there is something to suit everybody. Once you find the effect that you like best the next thing to do is apply a suitable frame. Again you will have plenty to choose from here and there are frames to suit all budding photographers.

PhotoMagic also allows you to rotate or flip your images and you can also crop them to your preferred size. Once you've finished making all your changes, you can save, email or export your image to a variety of other apps including Bump. You can also downscale your pictures to save them on your device and save a little bit of space too.

This really is a great little app that is available for just $1. This app does have the ability to do more and it would be great to see the option to be able to add text to the photos. As this is only version 1.1.1 this could still happen so it is one app that we will definitely be keeping our eyes on. Jailbreak iOS 6.1.2 Untethered Using Evasi0n v1.5 or Sn0wbreeze v2.9.11

The Evad3rs team have been hard at work and they have updated the Evasi0n tool to jailbreak iOS 6, 6.1 and 6.1.2 with improved boot times. Some users had reported that their boot time was considerably longer after jailbreaking using Evasi0n. If you have already jailbroken your idevice you don't need to do it again. All you have to do is check within your Cydia packages for the updated list which should be available after a refresh.

News has spread that Apple has plugged one of the key exploits used by the Evasi0n tool to jailbreak all A5 devices running iOS 6.1.3 beta 2 and it looks like the release of iOS 6.1.3 will be a task that even the Evad3rs team won't be able to beat. Planetbeing has already stated that it one exploit is down the whole jailbreak is finished, so if you do want to keep your device jailbroken the advice is not to update your firmware.

If you haven't jailbroken your iOS 6 yet and you would like to do so, you can download Evasi0n for Mac, Windows and Linux. For those who prefer the familiar jailbreak tool known as Sn0wbreeze, you will be happy to hear that it has also been updated to Sn0wbreeze v2.9.11. Last week this tool was updated to v2.9.10 and this new update fixes a bug with the compatibility issues with Cydia that was found with the untethered package on 6.1.2. Sn0wbreeze v2.9.11 is compatible with A4 devices only so if you have a newer model iPhone you will need to use Evasi0n to jailbreak.

iOS 6.1.3 Jailbreak Using Evasi0n Not Possible As Apple Patches Exploit

Whilst many people thing that Apple has been a little slow on the mark in plugging the Evasi0n jailbreak that was released at the start of the month by the Evad3rs team, the news today is that an iOS 6.1.3 jailbreak will no longer be possible with Evasi0n.

Two new versions of iOS have been released since the launch of Evasi0n but these were to fix critical bugs and neither of them affected this untethered jailbreak. A report on the Forbes website however, suggests that Apple is working on patching the various exploits that allow Evasi0n to work and they are planning a new iOS release. Planetbeing has been speaking with Forbes' Andy Greenberg and he has revealed that iOS 6.1.3 beta 2 which was released a couple of days ago, patches at least one of the bugs that was exploited by the Evasi0n jailbreak. This could mean the end of the Evasi0n jailbreak for devices pre-installed with iOS 6.1.3. Anyone who is running the current version of iOS 6 and wants to retain their untethered jailbreak should refrain from updating their software.

The patched vulnerability pertains to the Time Zone setting and although Planetbeing is still currently running some tests, the domino effect of having one exploit patched will have devastating effects on the Evasi0n jailbreak. Planetbeing has stated that if one of the vulnerabilities doesn't work, Evasi0n doesn't work. He also said that they could replace that part with a different vulnerability, but Apple will probably fix most if not all of the bugs that have been used when iOS 6.1.3 is released.

Several million idevices have been jailbroken since the release of Evasi0n and it now looks like the end of the ride. It could be another month before we see the next firmware update. We will of course be keeping a close eye on things as they progress and will be sure to update you as news arrives. Until then, if you are using a jailbroken device, we recommend that you stick with your current iOS version and don't update your device until someone in the jailbreak scene says it is safe to do so.

Jailbreak iOS 6.1.2 Using Sn0wbreeze

Sn0wbreeze 2.9.10 has just been released to allow an untethered jailbreak on iOS 6.1.2. If you have an iPhone 5, iPhone 4S or any of the other newer iOS devices we suggest that you jailbreak iOS 6.1.2 using Evasi0n.

The popular Sn0wbreeze jailbreak tool has now been updated to version 2.9.10, bringing with it a number of improvements and additions focusing on the new iOS 6.X untether. Whilst most people anxiously waited to get their hands on the Evasi0n jailbreak from the Evad3rs team, there are still some users who prefer to stick with the tried and tested Sn0wbreeze software. Version 2.9.10 of iH8sn0w's software is still completely windows only and Sn0wbreeze only supports A4 powered hardware.

If you have an older device that relies on a carrier unlock + hacktivation, Sn0wbreeze is the way to go. Using Sn0wbreeze you can cook a custom firmware for your device without the upgraded baseband so that you can unlock it with Ultrasn0w. Sn0wbreeze 2.9.10 supports pre A5 devices such as the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and fourth generation iPod Touch.

If you plan on using Sn0wbreeze 2.9.10 to jailbreak iOS 6.1.2 you first need to download the latest version of Sn0wbreeze and make sure that hte iOS device to be jailbroken is connected to your PC and running the latest firmware. Next you will need to located and unarchive your download of Sn0wbreeze before running the exe file. Next you will need to hit the blue next button and select the browse for an IPSW and point Sn0wbreeze to the relevant firmware for your device. Once Sn0wbreeze successfully identifies the provided IPSW file you just select next and click on the Simple Mode option. Sn0wbreeze will start to do what it does and you may have to wait a while. Once ready, Sn0wbreeze will ask you to put your device into Pwned DFU mode. Once done, Sn0wbreeze will provide you with an alert to say that the device is now in Pwned DFU mode. Close Sn0wbreeze, open iTunes and select the connected device from the left hand menu. Press and hold the left Shift key on the keyboard before clicking on Restore in iTunes. When asked for a firmware file to be selected you should point to the custom created IPSW from Sn0wbreeze which will be located on your computer desktop. Allow iTunes to go through the restore process and once completed you will have a fully jailbroken iPhone with Cydia on your home screen.

So there you have it, an untethered jailbreak for iOS 6.1.2 for older devices using Sn0wbreeze.

iPhone Jailbreak – Get Siri To Read Tweets

Siri was introduced with iOS 5 and it has had mixed publicity. It does have its uses and recent improvements have broadened its functionality. Now you can get Siri to read new tweets in your timeline on your iPhone. This comes courtesy of TweetFeed which is a new jailbreak tweak by Devin LaFleur.

As far as voice recognition technology goes, there is a lot to be offered. TweetFeed is an intuitive little tweak and once you install it, it will allow your new tweets to be read out by Siri. At the moment it doesn't offer much more than this but as this is one of the developer's first projects, it does hold a lot of promise. You do have to give this tweak permission to access your device's Twitter accounts, and once you have you are ready to go. This tweak only reads the Tweets from the first account you give it so those of you with multiple accounts might be a little disappointed.

If it proves to be a popular tweak, we may see developer LaFleur add support for multiple accounts as well as the ability to read the newest tweet by a specific individual. We have tested TweetFeed ourselves and we have to say, that it works really well and if you feel like you have been neglecting Siri, this tweak will certainly give it a meaning once again.

Jailbreak iOS 6.1.2 Untethered On iPhone 5 And More With Evasion

The iOS 6.1.2 update was released today by Apple to address some bugs found in the OS which is great news. Some even better news, is that the jailbreak hasn't been patched. The Evad3rs team did however work around the clock to update the Evasi0n tool and we are happy to report that you can now jailbreak iOS 6.1.2 untethered on the iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod Touch and all other devices using Evasi0n v1.4.

All iOS devices that are able to run iOS 6 right the way through to iOS 6.1.2 are supported by Evasi0n including the iPhone 5. The only exception is the new Apple TV 3 which can't be jailbroken at the moment. Jailbreaking doesn't cause any harm to your device but it is always a good idea to back up your device using iTunes or iCloud before you jailbreak.

Jailbreaking iOS 6.1.2 using Evasi0n v1.4 is exactly the same as before and if you have used Evasi0n to jailbreak iOS 6 or iOS 6.1, then jailbreaking iOS 6.1.2 won't be a problem. Just in case though we have included a brief tutorial that you can follow.

The first thing to do is update your device to iOS 6.1.2 using iTunes. OTA updates can mess with the jailbreak so a fresh restore via iTunes is recommended. The next thing you need to do is turn off the Passcode Lock if you have it enabled and then download Evasi0n 1.4. Start up Evasi0n on your computer and simply click on the “jailbreak” option. All you have to do now is sit back and let Evasi0n do the rest. Don't touch anything while your device is being jailbroken. Once completed, your device should boot straight back up and you will see a new jailbreak icon on your home screen. Tap on this in order to finish the process. You device will reboot a few times for a little while before it finally boots into the jailbroken state. That's it, you're done. If everything has worked Evasi0n will tell you that the jailbreak is complete and Cydia will be available on your home screen.

Apple To Release iOS 6.1.2 Early This Week

Apple is to release iOS 6.1.2 early this week in a bid to fix exhance and lock screen passcode bugs. Shortly after the release of iOS 6.1 it became apparant that a major security flaw allowed basically anybody with a spare couple of minutes to slip through the passcode system and access a device's confidential and supposedly secure data. The release of iOS 6.1.1 last week that fixed lingering cellular and battery issues with the iPhone 4S is also susceptible to this security flaw.

An urgent update is required from Apple to sort the mess out and according to iFun this should happen early this week. Whenever Apple releases a new software update, users are quick to check it out and report any issues that they find. When it comes to security issues though, users are less likely to forgive these mistakes. The major security flaw was discovered last Wednesday.

Apple has always prided itself on its high level of security in its software product so a new update being released so soon was always likely. It isn't known at this stage whether the untethered Evasi0n jailbreak will also be patched with this new update but hopefully with all the fuss and rushing with this new update they won't spoil things just yet. Apple have already acknowledged the Exchange problem and they are said to have people working around the clock to prepare a suitable fix for this. There is no official date for the release of iOS 6.1.2 but as always, as soon as we have any news we will let you know.

Apple Confirms Fix For iOS 6.1 Exchange Bug On The Way

There was a lot of criticism when Apple released iOS 6 and a public apology was signed by Apple CEO Tim Cook. The criticism seemed to have died down but now Apple is coming under fire for the inadequacies found in iOS 6.1. There were connectivity issues with the iPhone 4S which were quickly fixed with iOS 6.1.1. Then there were issues with battery life and a flaw in the passcode lock screen. Now it seems there is an issue with Exchange support.

Everything seemed to be fine when iOS 6.1 was released at the end of January and there were a number of improvements built into this build. It has however quickly become apparent that there are problems that were triggered with this release. Apple has reacted very quickly and they have acknowledged that the point release does have an issue with “excess exchange activity after accepting an exception to recurring calendar event” and that a software release will be made available to rectify this problem.

To the average person, the exchange issue might not seem like a big problem but it has certainly been causing distress to those professionals who are in charge of maintaining corporate servers in enterprises. Exchange administrators were the first to pick up on the fact that iPhone and iPad devices running on iOS 6.1 were gathering excessive logs and this was also the reason why Microsoft recommended that all those in charge of servers were to block all devices running iOS 6.1.

Support article TS4352 on the Apple support website acknowledges this problem. No time scale has yet been given for the release of the software fix but we assume that we will see iOS 6.1.2 very shortly. As an interim fix, Apple has suggested that users disable and then re-enable the Calendar on the associated Exchange account on the device. This is done by going to Settings>Mail, Calendars, selecting the relevant Exchange account and then switching the Calendar option off and then back on after a few seconds.

Jailbreak iOS 6.1.1 Untethered With Evasi0n v1.3

The jailbreak community has done it again and pulled off a universal untethered jailbreak. The Evad3rs team has come up with an untethered jailbreak for the newly released iOS 6.1.1. iOS 6.1.1 was released in a hurry to fix issues with the iPhone 4S and the Evasi0n jailbreak tool has been updated to deliver the same untethered jailbreak it delivered for iOS 6.0/6.1 on iOS 6.1.1.

It was noticed rather quickly after its release that iOS 6.1 was causing some iPhone 4S users problems relating to cellular performance but has has been fairly prompt in releasing a remedy and the 23MB update should end these problems. A tweet that was sent out earlier by Planetbeing confirmed that Apple had not prevented the jailbreak with iOS 6.1.1 and also that an update to Evasi0n was imminent. That update has been released and Evasi0n v1.3 is now available and the jailbreaking process is just as simple as it was before.

Apple usually responds with an iOS release that patches exploits used for the purpose of a jailbreak but the timing of the Evasi0n tool probably means that Apple has not yet had the time or resources to create, test and release an update. That day will probably arrive soon and for all devices so it is important not to update your device to any future firmware until a reputable developer states otherwise especially if you want to keep your jailbreak.

For those who are using iOS 6.1.1 the updated Evasi0n tool is now ready to download for Windows, Mac and Linux users. Most of the bugs present in the initial Evasi0n release seem to have been ironed out but if you do spot any, be sure to report them to the Evad3rs team so that they can deal with them.

iOS 6.1.1 On Its Way

There were a number of issues that cropped up with the recent iOS 6.1 release and it looks like Apple are working on an update that should eradicate these. Reports of issues following new iOS updates are nothing new and there have been some issues with almost every major iOS release. The latest iOS 6.1 release seems to have plenty of issues though.

Degraded battery life is something that we have all become very used to with new updates but it looks like the iOS 6.1 update is proving so bad that carriers such as Vodafone in the UK have warned their customers not to update their iPhone 4S's to the latest version of the iOS citing that there is a 3G data issue post update. Vodafone has asked all their customers to hold off on updating while Apple works on fixing this issue.

It looks like Apple are indeed working on an update and according to one German blog called iFun, iOS 6.1.1 is in development and is currently being tested by carriers and beta testers around the world. This update is believed to be aimed at correcting the data issues that have been reported as well as a popular Exchange bug that has led Yahoo! To disable the ability to manage mobile meetings on iOS devices. These along with battery life issues will no doubt be something that Apple will want to fix as quickly as they can.

Apple updates are often released to address specific bugs or vulnerabilities and many fear that this new release will affect the recently released iOS 6 jailbreak, Evasi0n. This new update will arrive any day and we don't expect any new functionality just bug fixes.

Evasi0n Jailbreak Not Patched In iOS 6.1.1 Beta 1

The Evasi0n jailbreak for iOS 6 has had a massive amount of interest since its lauch. More than 100,000 people downloaded the package within the first ten minutes of its release and Cydia's servers were bombarded more than 14,000 times per second at the peak of the traffic spike. There were a lot of iOS users fearful that this new jailbreak would be lost with the introduction of iOS 6.1.1 beta 1 by Apple but this fear has been squashed by Pod2g which is great news for the moment.

When Apple seeded iOS 6.1.1 to developers many feared that they would close the vulnerabilities in iOS 6 that allowed the Evad3rs to produce the untethered jailbreak for more than twenty iOS devices. After downloading and inspecting the firmware build, Pod2g took to Twitter to let all his followers know that iOS 6.1.1 is still susceptible to the exploits contained in Evasi0n.

This is great news for everyone who is enjoying having a fully functioning untethered jailbreak on devices such as the iPhone 5 and the fifth generation iPod Touch. Pod2g's tweet also came with a warning that although Apple hasn't fixed the jailbreak with iOS 6.1.1 beta 1, users should still stay clear of downloading and installing this build if they have access to an official developer account. Apple may have chosen not to immediately combat the vulnerabilities but the Evasi0n tool is not yet set up to liberate this particular version.

Apple hasn't introduced anything big with the initial beta of iOS 6.1.1 and it is highly likely that a second or third beta release will contain the security changes necessary to prevent Evasi0n which can jailbreak iOS 6.1 from injecting the jailbreak files in the next firmware public release. At the moment Evasi0n hasn't been patched but as always it looks like we should sit tight on the currently supported firmware and wait to see how things pan out.

Jailbreak iOS 6 Untethered With Evasi0n

It's finally here. The long awaited jailbreak solution for iOS 6. We can all rejoyce, Evasi0n has been released by Evad3rs and it gives users an untethered jailbreak for iOS 6.1 on nearly every device. This untethered jailbreak is available for windows, Mac and Linux.

Earlier this year Team Evad3rs was established and this group comprises of some of the jailbreak community's most talented developers. Names include Pod2g, Planetbeing, MuscleNerd and more. All of these people have produced reliable jailbreaks in the past. This group was assembled in order to develop an untethered jailbreak for iOS 6 for post A5 devices including the iPhone 5, iPad mini and the latest generation iPad. All of this was achieved on Monday with a userland jailbreak tool called Evasi0n.

If you own an iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 4, iPad 3, iPad 2, iPad mini, iPod touch 4 or iPod touch 5 you can now jailbreak it using Evasi0n. The iOS firmware versions that are supported by Evasi0n include iOS 6.0, iOS 6.0.1, iOS 6.0.2 and iOS 6.1. The only device that isn't supported by Evasi0n is the Apple TV 3.

The new Evasi0n tool is very user friendly although we do have to remind all users not to update their devices over the air and instead to download the latest iOS 6.1 firmware and update it via iTunes or the standalone ISPW to take full advantage of the new features of iOS 6.1 with the added benefits of this untethered jailbreak.

It has been a long time coming. IOS 6 was originally released in September of last year and it features many improvements including a radically revamped Maps App, Facebook Integration and improvement to Siri, Mail and other native apps. With iOS 6.1 officially released last Monday and now Evasi0n those who have been waiting to jailbreak their idevices can finally do so.

The new iOS 6 untethered jailbreak known as Evasi0n has been the talking point for all Apple fans over the weekend. The release date for this untethered jailbreak has been confirmed by the official twitter account of team Evad3rs as Monday, February 4, 2013. Planetbeing also confirmed this date on his twitter account yesterday.

Last week, team Evad3rs hinted that the jailbreak would be available and that it would be the first jailbreak capable of jailbreaking the iPhone 5. The status bar on the official Evasi0n website is currently showing 96% progress for final testing and preparation with the next step being release. This jailbreak is something that people have been waiting months for especially those who purchased the new iPhone 5. This is the first time that an untethered jailbreak will be made available for iOS 6 and this means that all the users that have been anxiously waiting will soon be able to upgrade their iOS 5 devices to the newest version of Apple's operating system.

Team Evad3rs have kept the details of this new tool under wraps to stop Apple from patching existing vulnerabilities before the tool reaches the general public. Some information was released in the past couple of months but we really are anxious to see exactly what this new tool can do. We do know that the new tool will support almost every iOS device including iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch and the only exception is the new Apple TV 3.

There is very little time left to wait and according to the rate in which the Evasi0n website is changing we reckon that this new untethered iOS 6 jailbreak will go live later this evening. iOS 6 Jailbreak Finally A Reality

The jailbreak for iOS 6/6.1 has now officially entered private beta testing. The Evasi0n untethered jailbreak for iOS 6 and iOS 6.1 is now closer than ever and a release date of Sunday has been announced. The Evasi0n website has been updated again and this time they are stating the the jailbreak tool for public release is now 75% complete. The Evad3ers team has now begun rolling the windows and mac tools to a private pool of beta testers.

Pod2g has taken to twitter to confirm that the team is now really close to release and asks everyone to stay tuned. This is the news that we have all been anxiously waiting for and this jailbreak as we already know is compatible with all versions of iOS 6 released. It also supports every device on which the latest release of Apple's firmware can run. Once this tool is ready and released to the public every iPhone from 3GS upwards along with every iPad and iPod touch will be jailbreakable provided that they are running some variety of iOS 6.

This jailbreak has been a long time coming and many of us have been following the updates since the September release of iOS 6. For a while it looked as though we were never going to see a jailbreak for iOS 6 but now we are finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. This jailbeak is going to be untethered which means that people won't have to connect their device to a computer every time it is rebooted or turned off. It really is fantastic news and we can't wait to get our hands on this iPhone 5 jailbreak. The clock is ticking and once this jailbreak goes live we will be sure to let you know.

Leaked iPad 5 Images Point To iPad Mini Like Design

The design of the iPad mini has been a strong talking point. The lack of retina display and the high price tag wasn't something that many favored but the design seemed to satisfy everyone. Apple are really pleased with the shape and materials that were used for the iPad mini and it looks like their next iPad being dubbed the iPad 5 will adopt some of these design traits.

An image leak of the back cover of the next generation iPad looks like it takes most of its design from the iPad mini and it includes a thinner side bezel. These images can be viewed on 9to5Mac. The current iPad design is seen to be the best on the market but not everyone is a fan of larger bezels and it looks like Apple have put measures in place to prevent accidental thumb and finger presses and can now finally downsize the bezel.

We can't take these leaked images as being a definite especially when Apple haven't released an official statement. However, the anodized aluminum design of the iPad mini and the iPhone 5 have been a huge hit with customers so it does make sense that the next generation iPad will follow suit. We will of course have to wait to see what Apple is planning but until then we can all enjoy the latest iPad 4 release with a 128GB of memory.

Jailbreak iOS 6.1 Beta 5 Using Redsnow

Apple released iOS 6.1 Beta 5 to developers the other day and those who have A4 and below devices can jailbreak this using redsn0w. This is a tethered jailbreak and only available to those who have the new iOS 6.1 beta 5.

This latest beta version is a little different to other Apple releases in that the firmware activates without the need for developer registration. It doesn't have any expiry date either and the build ID is that of a final build meaning that this could actually end up being the final build of iOS 6.1. This means that this is the exact same software that the public will see going live in the near future.

A4 and below device owners can now jailbreak this version using Redsn0w. If you have an iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS or iPod touch 4 you will be able to liberate your device. As mentioned, this is a tethered jailbreak and not a huge comfort to those with the iPhone 4S or iPhone 5. As with all tethered jailbreaks, whenever the device is rebooted or entirely powered down and then back on it will need to be connected to a computer to be jailbroken again.

Those with the iPhone 5 or iPad mini shouldn't have to wait for too long until iOS 6.1 is released to the public and then we should see an untethered jailbreak being made available.

A History of Jailbreaking

Jailbreaking the iPhone has become difficult and we are seeing just how difficult as we wait for a jailbreak solution for iOS 6. In order to fully understand this, we must have a sense of what it used to be like and how it has changed.

When the iPhone 3G launched, a jailbreak tool called Pwnage Tool was released. It was based on a bootrom explooit that allow the iPhone's hackers to change the software on the device. This is powerful access in terms of jailbreaking the iPhone. When the iPhone 3GS was released, the key bug that allowed developers to have this level of access was still present. Apple then shut down the manufacturing cycle of the iPhone 3GS and addressed this problem. When they started production again, the bug was gone and there was a new bootrom in place.

Jay Freeman who created the well known jailbreak app store, Cydia, says that Apple's motivation was to fix the bug but why they chose to fix this bug instead of others is still unknown. This didn't prevent hackers from looking for other ways to access the iPhone's code. After Apple fixed the one bootrom bug, jailbreakers were able to discover other bootrom bugs but there were only able to change the software on a temporary basis. This allowed iPhone users to run jailbreak apps and modify how the iPhone behaved but as soon as the iPhone had to be rebooted the jailbreak was lost unless it was rebooted connected to a PC. This is known as a tethered jailbreak.

Apple continued to improve their iOS and by the time the iPhone was released, jailbreakers had to find a bug in a program running on the iPhone that they could use to access a bug in the kernel. @comex was the one to discover this and he launched the JailbreakMe website. He was later hired by Apple.

The next big step in jailbreaking was to make the jailbreak untethered meaning that the iPhone could boot up directly to the jailbreak. This was also achieved but every time a new iPhone was released, the search for new bugs began. When the iPhone 4 was released a new hacker called Geohot discovered the Limera1n exploit and other hackers then began working on untethers for this jailbreak. The Limera1n exploit is important because it is a bootrom exploit and it lasts for the life of the device. Limera1n is in every device that shipped with that bug and the only way for Apple to get rid of it is to stop production like they did with the iPhone 3GS to fix the bug.

When the iPhone 4S was released Limera1n was gone and again the hackers had to go back to looking for exploits. When these were identified and used to develop a jailbreak they were then patched by Apple in the next firmware upgrade. Corona was the exploit used for a jailbreak for the iPhone 4S running iOS 5.0 and 5.0.1 but when Apple released iOS 5.1 the bug was gone. Absinthe was the jailbreak for iOS 5.1 and 5.1.1. Once Apple released iOS 6 the bugs were gone again.

The iPhone 5 and iOS 6 has significant security improvements as those iOS 6.1. This is why we are still waiting for a jailbreak. The hackers are still looking for bugs and it is proving to be tough.

Some people wonder if jailbreaking is over especially when you consider that Apple have addressed a lot of things jailbreakers were looking for. We can even buy unlocked iPhones. It doesn't seem to be the case though and people are still anxiously waiting for the next jailbreak to arrive.

What's Happening With The iPhone 5 Jailbreak?

We already know, that the iPhone 5 has been jailbroken, it's just not available to the public yet. The reason for this is become one of the bugs that makes a jailbreak functional is so good that the hackers who have discovered it want to keep it secret while they look for something else that can replace it. Once the jailbreak goes public, Apple will learn of the exploit and patch it. On top of this, we also know that iOS 6.1 is going to be released any day and the hackers don't want to release anything before then.

David Wang aka Planetbeing announced not so long ago that he has an untethered iOS 6.0.2 jailbreak running on his iPhone. He has also stated that the vulerability that has been found is great because it let's them see what is going on. They need to be able to look at the code they are trying to change, get a dump of it, otherwise they are basically working in the dark.

The worst case scenario is that hackers will have to “burn2 their current exploit in order to release a jailbreak to the public. They don't want to do this. When asked if the public will be able to jailbreak the iPhone 5, Planetbeing says that he hopes one will be released before the next iPhone comes out.

It might not sound too promising, but what we do know is that an untethered jailbreak is available for the iPhone 5. We also know that an exploit has been found and that the hackers are keeping this a secret for the moment. The reason for this, so Apple don't patch it and so hackers can keep looking for additional exploits. The future of jailbreaking is not over yet and for those who are waiting anxiously to gain full control of the iPhone 5 it is promising. We may have to stay patient a little while longer but an untethered iPhone 5 jailbreak is imminent.

Pod2g And Planetbeing Now Working On iPhone 5 Untethered Jailbreak For iOS 6 / 6.0.1

Great news to report for all those anxiously waiting on an untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 5 and other new devices. We have just been informed that both Pod2g and Planetbeing are now working on the long awaited iOS 6 / 6.0.1 jailbreak.

There are so many people who have purchased the iPhone 5 or upgraded their existing handsets to iOS 6 and now after months of waiting for a jailbreak solution it seems that things are looking up. Planetbeing has been updating the public via his twitter feed over the past couple of months and today a new tweet from him suggests that he is making progress and working with Pod2g.

According to his tweets, Planetbeing spent last friday with Pod2g where they have finally ironed out a working untethered jailbreak for iOS 6. His tweet said, “Made some nice progress today with @pod2g. I think I'll try to reward myself with a nap.” Pod2g responsed this morning which confirms that he is involved with the untethered jailbreak for iOS 6. He said, “@planetbeing oh yeah! 2 new vulnerabilities in a day, chance was with us. But we still miss that initial code execution for a public jb.”

Earlier this month, Planetbeing confirmed that he has a working iOS 6 jailbreak running on his iPhone 5. The tweets today suggest that all they are missing now is an initial code execution for a public jailbreak. Jailbreaking has become increasingly over the past couple of years and this is especially true on new devices. Pod2g's involvement in the iPhone 5 jailbreak is great news for the community and it could mean that a public iOS 6 untethered jailbreak is just around the corner.

It is important to note that iOS 6.1 is nearly upon us and it is likely that the Dev Teams will wait for Apple to release it before they release any untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 5 and newer devices. Why Are We Still Waiting For An Untethered iOS 6 Jailbreak?

The iPhone 5 along with iOS 6 was released back in September and the question on many people's lips is, why are we still waiting for an untethered iPhone 5 jailbreak? We hear you on this one and are happy to try and provide the answers.

One of the reasons that it takes so long for a jailbreak to be released has to be linked to the team that are working on the jailbreak. With the release of iOS 6 this timeframe has dramatically expanded. There could very well be a problem in finding all teh exploits that the Dev Teams need in order to prepare the long awaited iOS 6 jailbreak tool. This tool when released to the public needs to be user friendly.

At the moment, there is an iOS 6 jailbreak available for iPhone 4 users but this is a tethered jailbreak solution which means if the phone battery dies or the phone needs to be rebooted for any other reason, it can only be done when connected to a PC. An untethered jailbreak allows users to reboot their iPhone as normal which is why it is the preferred choice.

Going back to the iPhone 5 jailbreak, we are happy to report that PlanetBeing is in possession of an untethered iPhone 5 jailbreak running on iOS 6.0.2. We do however have to wait for this private jailbreak to be tweaked and worked out in order to make it available to the public. We are hoping that the news of Pod2g's return to the jailbreaking community will help to speed this up.

It could be that we will have to wait for the release of iOS 6.1 before we get an untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 5 and iOS 6. Until then, we will keep the news rolling and provide updates as soon as we receive them.
