Comment on How ZohoCRM adds value to businesses

Zoho CRM is more than a Customer Relationship Manager, it is a Managerial Accounting Business Operating System (MABOS). As someone who has started and run a business from a single person to an ongoing entity with multiple employees, the most important aspect of growing a company is having a solution which can scale larger as you bring on more employees. I spent the better part of 10 years developing my own databases which I had to manage and host. These Managerial Accounting systems required enormous amounts of time and energy on my part as the business grew. In addition, as we grew, I moved away from the development role to the Chief Requirements Officer and had to spend a lot of time over-seeing that my own needs were met. No more!!!

ZOHO CRM frees the business owner up to do what he/she needs to do which is focus "on" the business developing the operating logic (procedures and policies) vs. simply working "in" the business and learning as you go. What's even better, as I am currently developing my new company, I have the freedom to experiment within the ZOHO CRM framework to develop the right systems (procedures and policies) BEFORE I start to operate instead of the more costly approach of "on the job training."

While the solution does not offer all the functionality of my custom database solution, it does eliminate a lot of the headaches. (DBA's, Hosting, Backups, Server Crashes, Hardware and Software Upgrades, Client Application Deployment, Conflicting Operating Systems, Software loading times, etc.)

If you are a small business owner, I highly recommend you look at this solution as the basis for your Managerial Accounting Business Operating System.

NOTE: These comments are un-solicited and I have no financial relationship to ZOHO the company.

Comment on Hosted CRM vs On-Premise CRM

Two additional points to ponder when considering a hosted CRM:

1) It is difficult and expensive to install and maintain a CRM system onsite that can be shared by multiple users (particularly outside of the office); CRMs are by definition shared systems. Onsite = less sharing, less value.

2) Look at the success (or issues) that other companies are having with using hosted applications i.e. instead of guessing what would happen in different circumstances take a look at how companies are managing the differences and overall value received. It's easier to measure past performance than to predict the future.
