The Business/Union Mutual Interest Factor

The 'mutual' interest factor is where unions envision themselves as business partners rather than representatives of labor. The separation gets blurred by creating divisions in standard operations of a union creating autonomous departments that are not accountable to either the union leadership or membership starting with simple daily operations. This is done under the umbrella of convenience, efficiency and restructure. What is the result of this?

Pretty simple question that has the potential of reshaping unions with profound consequences.

When a union begins to see itself as a "co‑manager" of the industry rather than a representative of labor, a slow but powerful shift occurs. It doesn’t happen through dramatic constitutional changes as the line between Labor and Management blurs.

The union begins adopting management’s worldview and I'm pretty sure you have heard these lines in your own local:

“We need to be efficient.”
“We need to be competitive.”
“We need to keep employers happy.”
“We need to streamline operations.”

Sound harmless and somewhat responsible but they reframe the union’s purpose.

SO rather than advocating the union starts administering in the name of making "life easy" for leadership to focus on more important details.

Daily operational tasks get carved out into "appointed staff" that:

Don’t report to the membership
Don’t answer to the board
Don't believe they are governed by bylaws or referral rules
Given decision making authority
Aren’t subject to democratic oversight

Justified with keywords:

“Convenience”
“Efficiency”
“Restructuring”
“Professionalization”

But the effect is the same:

Power moves away from members and toward staff or small internal groups. This is problematic as there is no oversight or accountability.

Decision‑Making Becomes Centralized and Opaque

Once operations are siloed:

Information stops flowing
Members can’t see how decisions are made
The board loses operational visibility
Staff gain de facto authority

Creating a "shadow governance structure" — one that isn’t elected, isn’t accountable, and isn’t removable.

The Union Starts Prioritizing Stability Over Advocacy

The classic “mutual interest” trap.

The union begins to believe:

“If the employer suffers, we suffer.”
“If we push too hard, we’ll lose work.”
“If we enforce the contract strictly, we’ll damage relationships.”
"We need to comply with all management requests"

So the union becomes risk‑averse, conflict‑avoidant, and overly cooperative.

Members feel it immediately:

Fewer grievances
Softer contract enforcement
More “partnership language”
Less transparency
More emphasis on “professionalism” than representation

The Result: The Business/Union Mutual Interest Factor

This is the outcome of everything above:

The union begins to function as a co‑manager of labor, not a representative of labor.

It becomes:

Operationally aligned with employers
Culturally aligned with management values
Structurally insulated from member oversight
Strategically focused on stability instead of power

Members experience:

Weak enforcement
Confusing communication
Decisions made without input
A sense that “the union is them, not us”

Boards experience:

Loss of operational control
Difficulty holding staff accountable
Pressure to rubber‑stamp decisions
A widening gap between strategy and operations

And the Business Agent’s office becomes the de facto center of power — not because of malice, but because the structure now funnels authority there by default.

The Business/Union Mutual Interest Factor is what happens when a union slowly shifts from representing workers to co‑managing the industry, creating internal departments that operate without accountability and ultimately weakening democratic control and member power.

MEMBERS ARE THE UNION!

It is essential to the survival of the UNION MOVEMENT TO MAINTAIN CORE UNION VALUES!

This is how I ended every official letter I have sent over the past several years. I find it ironic that it's being used in a tweet when the sentence relates to action being requested by the sender to the receiver and that's why I know something is wrong. A little thing but maybe not.

So, exactly who is this communication intended for being sent by the Supreme Leader via a Twitter account and does it relate to something that we (the public) don't recognize. The messages are usually extreme, threatening and incoherent but always end with this statement. Action of some kind is being relayed to the receiver.

This is how you avoid official documented/recorded communications and not have archival records. Think about that for a moment as I believe he is asking for actions from staff or non-staff very publicly obscuring the action being requested in a rant about something that the receiver understands.

I would like to see a cryptologist decipher what the messages are in relation to actions taken because, well they need to be connected - archived and recorded. I believe it's messaging with an action request.

You cannot look away and it's something you cannot dismiss if you were born and raised in the USA. Hoping history will record this moment in time as the 'Trump Anomaly: Attempted Destruction of the USA" when one leader tried to emulate everything that this country fought against while destroying every institution for the last 250 years to create a fantasy of his own making. He FAILED because he underestimated the vast diversity of the people - the compassion and dedication to neighbors and community - HE FAILED because he thought everyone was as hateful and bigoted as himself - HE FAILED because of the hard-working people who built this nation FOR THEIR CHILDREN to THRIVE.

Being WOKE or DEI would never have achieved the type of UNITY that ICE and NOEM have managed to create. It's hard to teach kids about values, freedom and 'We the People' promises without being duplicitous and for the most part teachers reject duplicity. Can't very well be a good Christian and "love thy neighbor" etal and hate your neighbors because of how they speak or look - sometimes even if it resembles Christ himself.

The American People have no other choice because generally speaking most don't just roll over and say 'Yeah, step on me, take my rights and do it hard so we all learn the submission lesson and glory of surviving'.

History will record this moment in time when a delusional old man and his sycophants followed the John Birch Society playbook - updated several times over the past decades to Project 2025 to take over the hearts and minds of the American public and FAILED.

QUOTAS - What is the required occupancy for internment camps and what are the contract conditions for these private prisons?

MONEY - Obvious Question - Is there a bonus for ICE arrests? If so who's paying out for arrests - Less Obvious Question - Are there betting pools?

DIFFERENCE - Police - don't hide their faces or badge numbers, they identify themselves, they have a motto 'Protect and Serve' and they get professional training. - Militia - hide their faces, don't identify themselves and are not professionally trained to protect and serve as that is not their purpose.

BLACKMAIL/HOSTAGE - When Pam Bondi made the statement that if Minnesota would hand over the voter roles ICE would stop - doesn't that equate to hostage taking and blackmail?

This is RESISTANCE to something that was first pitched in 2010 with SB1070 - the entire Immigration Panic that was about protecting the US border has now turned into ICE Occupation of American Cities is CRAZY and it's coming from the TOP. US CONGRESS MUST TAKE CONTROL AND STOP THIS INSANITY - IT MUST BE STOPPED IMMEDIATELY!!! (I would say the US Military but the administration pushed out all who understood their roles).

I personally think all Americans (including Citizens United) need a national STOP/RESET for several days next week.

authoritarianism as a government. It is not any type of 'syndrome' because seriously everyone should know that dictators SUCK. They suck throughout history and it should be clear that it isn't what you want for your children or generations of Americans It's pretty damn simple - the American system of representative government and checks and balances was never efficient - they didn't get things done fast but hell they did what was necessary to try to uphold the US Constitution. They believed in the credo "All men are created equal" or at least some did.

I totally believe in human dignity and the ideal that regardless of who you are or where you come from we all are on the same planet and every one of us deserve at least the acknowledgement that we are of the same species.

We can't just go over to someone's house and tell them to get out because we like your things and so we want to live here now - NO - day in and day out these are not what average Americans are entitled to, but now we watch as our neighbors and friends are just shoveled into a van? Then told "It doesn't involve you!" REALLY? This has to stop and I've been saying that for a few years now and I've meant it every time - it absolutely must be stopped!

OBSERVING THE WINDS OF CHANGE
When a plan works it's usually a beautiful thing - this not so much. It's become obvious to me that the GOP Governors have a Master Plan and they are diligently carrying out their directives. It's not really a Conspiracy when they are really are out to get you. Back in August 2010 both the Republican Governors Associations and the Democrat Governors Association received contributions - according to OpenSecrets the Democrats received contributions from AFSCME (Public Workers Union) and the AFT (Teachers Union) while the Republicans received contributions from Koch Industries and News Corp (FOX) which isn't that surprising. What is surprising is the amount in contributions - 12% increase for Democrats and 109% increase for Republicans $9 million to $19 million. - NOTE: Remembering these are Governors Associations.
Yet what is money without a plan? Just a simple investment? Nope - There is a plan which we are seeing played out daily - What's wrong with a little game of War played out on Americans by a political party? Politics is War anyway right? When the GOP decided to bombard the general electorate with shock and awe, say anything extremists should not a red flag have gone up?

When 16 states introduce similar laws at the same time it's not a coincidence it's a tactic. I like Naomi Klein's statement about a "Corporate Coup d'etat" in reference to the deliberate attempt to privatize our communities. What essentially is wrong with privatizing public services? Hmmm...

Someone still has to pay and I prefer to pay taxes for services that are not about shareholder profit. It's really that simple. When companies take over a service their bottom line is the shareholder - not you, not the service they provide - they have to show a profit not to mention the cost of doing business with a State/City Government. There is NO cost saving involved.
Who do these Elected officials serve? Why their constituency of course and they are up for sale to the highest bidders.
BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE...
Focusing on the RGA I have apparently overlooked ALEC (American Legislative Exchange Council) which goes back to my first question about SB1070 and FAIR and the tangled mess of CCA and private prisons - oh my... the plot thickens while I am still looking for a backer for Campaign Finance Reform and getting a referendum on a ballot? Can I do this myself without a sponsor - I don't think so BUT then can I simply register a non-profit 'Think Tank' and sponsor a bill?

Collective Bargaining IS the Foundation for American Workers

Collective bargaining is on the table and the importance cannot be overstated. Everything you have come to take for granted at work has been a result of people standing up and fighting for a better way of life for common working people. I can go on in depth regarding everything collective bargaining has accomplished for several different industries but the one thing to understand is that BUSINESS in general doesn't like it. The one thing that stands in the way of excessive profits for a few corporate owners and dominion of the working class is the pesky folks who want to continue protect and fight for the right to organize and have a collective say in a contractual agreement regarding work.

Please recognize that undermining collective bargaining is stripping your rights to come together as a group and negotiate for working conditions, benefits and salaries. Sure, you can try to negotiate on an individual basis and call yourself an independent contractor but consider just how many other independent contractors are competing for the same job. What will you concede to compete and how far will you be forced to go to put food on the table and roof over your families head?

Different businesses have Trade Associations and some incredible conventions where they share policy and control. You don't have to be 'at will' and you don't have to submit to the marginalization of your time, contribution, work effort to support your family.

Support COLLECTIVE BARGAINING and your right to ORGANIZE!

Cold War, Boomers and Democracy

Historically speaking, the lessons during the Cold War taught generations up to the fall of the Berlin Wall the dangers of authoritarianism and why our form of government prevented the threat with checks and balances of the equal branches of government (4 Estate being the free press) - economics, social studies, US history, US government courses all through grade school and high school. Democracy is difficult and bogged down in processes to ensure representation - there is no 'EASY BUTTON'.

We listened to noon sirens on Saturdays for years, we knew what they meant and then when they stopped, we were like 'what happened?'. They were discontinued as a Saturday test and are still used in some areas for natural disaster/tornado warnings.

The Executive Branch is not the 'center of power' - this must be understood and returned to balance and the Free Press needs to step up and make that clear. The AMERICAN PEOPLE need to continue to speak without government retaliation regardless of ethnic, religion, status or gender identification because the ideal is EQUALITY.

I have lived my entire life with the understanding that I am safe from dictators, monarchs, fascists etal. because of our system of government (Democratic Checks and Balances). So, right now all I can say to our Government - DO YOUR FUCKING JOBS!

Actions Tell the Story

I have been following Heather Cox Richardson and I am so very grateful that she is documenting this time frame so diligently. When a historian tells the story you absolutely want to listen.

I have been accused of listening in on private conversations with some type of listening device or using some type of application on a computer that enables me to know what people are doing - in other words spying on people who see themselves as important enough to spy on, not so much. I spent several years in user support and anyone who works in support can tell you they rarely come upon a new problem and it's actually pretty exciting when it happens. It's called anticipation of a scenario that either happens or it doesn't - either way the idea is to resolve it before it becomes a problem. This skill has come to a degree where I can anticipate scenarios relatively well based on current news and actions.

These 7 departments of the Federal Government were eliminated today by #47. Now you could just take this as a 'cost saving' measure but if you look a little deeper these actions relate to either actions that have already occurred or upcoming actions.

The Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, which focuses on preventing and resolving strikes and other labor disputes -
Translation: Won't be having problems with union contracts going forward because they just won't exist so this department will serve no purpose - S.1006 introduced by Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee
The United States Agency for Global Media, the parent company of Voice of America -
Translation: Isolation and control of all media information coming out of the USA makes it easier.
The Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, a nonpartisan think tank -
Translation: This type of deep thinking is undesirable and probably will be labeled as subversive and a threat to the type of mind control needed for the masses.
The Institute of Museum and Library Services, which funds libraries, archives and museums in all 50 states
Translation: History and books will be censored to only promote a faction of the American history and not anything that is in conflict with the new interpretation of truth.
The United States Interagency Council on Homelessness, which aims to prevent homelessness
Translation: The homeless have been labeled as lazy and losers already by the GOP - this is to placate their base.
The Community Development Financial Institutions Fund, designed to expand economic opportunity in underserved communities.
Translation: What underserved communities, Musk and #47 have never seen any underserved communities so they must not exist.
The Minority Business Development Agency, which promotes growth of minority-owned businesses
Translation: Civil Rights Laws - look for Congress repeals or amendments under the DEI label.

This might be a good time to familiarize yourself with Edward Bernays and Lucky Strikes and the power of Public Relations and always the 48 Laws of Power and 33 Strategies of War - the DISINFORMATION IS COMING and it's going to be overwhelming.

Too Early for The 4th Turning

I have posts on the Wayback Machine for this site which I deleted. The one that I especially appreciate was titled Angry Arizona:

So... the husband and I are waiting in line after a good day of Good Will hunting for props for photographs and we find out that you can return things (who knew?) and of course, the line of people are angry so being the extrovert that I am I decide to chime in with "People are angry because everyone believes it's 'end of days' and the apocalypse is nearing -- guess what? This isn't 'Supernatural' and anyway Sam and Dean already did that season!" -- this actually made people lighten up a bit - surprised? I was...

With the ice broken (somewhat) people started talking - the guy behind us was an ex-cop from Detroit who was worried about his Union pension but then proceeded to blame President Obama for those worries and the woman with several things in her cart was talking about those people who stand outside with signs 'will work for food' who borrow other people's kids to help make their daily quota. Because I started this chatter, I thought I would contribute with liberal tidbits of my own...

The guy begging on the street with a sign is a scam and IT is the 'American Way', he's making anywhere from $100 to $300 per day (not really sure but I thought it was a good guess) and how would that be different from say the guys on Wallstreet? Bankers? Well, the pay scale alone is quite different but look at it - most people ridicule unmercilessly the folks with the cardboard signs but idolize the deal brokers and all I can think is why?

Short of their appearance they both are scam artists and where you might say that the deal broker is making an honest living and the cardboard folk are lazy, I think you are wrong. They both are doing the same job - they both have hours they spend at work talking people out of their money.

That is why I personally like street performers - big surprise - they do something physical for a living and they practice all the time, granted they are not always good but at least they are trying to earn what they receive from people.

Back to end of days... I like horror stories, they are fun, they are in the Bible and other assorted stories that make for good old fashion trepidation late at night. But when you live in constant fear and horror daily you will eventually go to the dark side - very gloomy - angry folk who have the feeling of absolutely no control because after all the apocalypse is pretty final. Lighten up a bit - reflect - meditate - calm down and let's get back some order here in Arizona. It's not a 'liberal socialist conspiracy to destroy the American Way (see above)', it's more like accountability, disclosure, and rooting out the scam artists, egotists, and self-serving power mongers to attain something closer to the ideals of average Americans.

No need to be angry Arizona - we are still the people.

NOW?

Well hell, the theory with the 4th Turning Generational Theory is that everyone who experienced this type of shit is supposed to be dead so they couldn't validate the horrors to the current generations (or those who don't believe in history books - yeah, I truly believe the Civil War occurred and that the folks who wrote the US Constitution didn't trust England or the King). I digress - really this plan has been ongoing for decades all the way back to black and white television and probably even further. The history is incredible and one of the best places to look for that history? The history of ALEC (American Legislative Exchange Council) ALEC Exposed and know who has been writing your state laws. There is also a City ALEC as well - I have read the Milton Friedman books and this all fits together except for Pres. #47 - I get that all these folks who came up with these economic philosophies possibly weren't thinking that someone would assume total power and this may be an unexpected consequence but I expect that the GOP will ride it out with the naive idea of deposing him later (after they get what they want) - BUT - chances are they will most likely be falling out of 20 story windows in the future and so, they need to stop it now or there is no stopping it. When someone aligns with dictators well, they learn stuff.

Microcosm and Why?

I've been doing the same job going on 20 years and this year during all the national campaigning and political election cycle I watched things change in my job that gave me a different perspective. These changes gave me a clue as to how the national elections would turn out. A microcosm is your circle of family, friends, acquaintances and fellow workers in your life. You can watch news entertainers, follow your favorite podcast and keep in touch with social media - all of that to get an idea of how things are going but realistically your microcosm are the real markers.

This is what the Democrats didn't grasp our seem to understand.

You don't have to read Project 2025 if you have been paying attention to ALEC, Heritage Foundation and Federalist Society. You don't need psychic intuition or any type of bugging device to predict what is going to happen next.

Accountability? Probably not - dismissed and/or marginalized as not understanding.

Proposals? Americans will be expected to have 'faith' that the proposed changes have been vetted and feasible and even if they are way off the rails hope that someone will pull the plug.

Retaliation? Definitely. Anyone who has the audacity to question will be punished if not removed.

Campaign Promises? These promises are created by public relations professionals and delivered by campaign managers to get you to vote for the candidate - an extremely expensive sales pitch - some of these promises may experience a short-lived attempt but there will always be someone to blame if they fail.

Success? Well, that depends on what you consider a success - possibly short-term success but without consideration for consequences on a longer scale - those who voted for this replay may get a bump in their pants for a few months.

Stereotyping, Labeling and Discrimination? People in general want to feel superior to others - ego, intelligence, status, gender and all of that rather than recognizing that everyone has something to contribute. My understanding of DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) is exactly what the words mean - diversity being everyone is different and unique, equity being everyone should be treated equally and provided the same opportunities, and inclusion meaning to be included regardless of differences.

Politics? Has several different definitions but suffice it to mean your core beliefs and that is why there are algorithms to define you and pitch the product you are most likely to buy.

This has been a rough year for me personally and professionally. Several changes I wasn't prepared for and forced to make rapid adjustments without losing my core beliefs and understanding. Sure, it's easy to sit back and accept things and frankly some of those things require being accepted but there is a limit. So, it really comes down to choosing when to stand your ground. Stay Strong, Stay Safe and Be Well!
