Everything seems to work smoothly, except:

• The touchpad mouse behaves like a crazy, sometimes it gets stuck at the bottom of the screen, sometimes it jumps randomly, sometimes you need more that 50 movements to cross the screen from corner to corner. It’s some kind of incompatibility with a Dell BIOS update. Solution: Add i8042.nomux=1 to the kernel options in /boot/grub/menu.lst.

• Second thing: the wi-fi, the BCM4310 USB card is not automatically recognized. Solution: Download ndiswrapper (this, this and this, you may need another computer with Internet connection, ehem) and configure it with the drivers you can get here.

A few weeks ago, it seemed the financial crisis wouldn’t spin completely out of control. The government knew what it was doing - at least the economic experts were saying so - and the Treasury had taken a stand against saving failing firms, letting Lehman Brothers file for bankruptcy.

But since then we’ve had the rescue of the insurance giant AIG, the arranged sale of failing banks and we’ll soon see, in one form or another, the biggest taxpayer bailout of Wall Street in history.

It seems clear that no one really knows what is coming next. Why?

He visto hoy en El País, quien me lo iba a decir, un artículo sobre el “verdadero éxito” de la visita del papa a Francia. Según el articulista –antiguo director de Le Monde, ahí es nada– no sólo demostró ser el “jefe de la Iglesia” sino que además resultó ser un “hábil político” y un “gran intelectual”.

No hay más que ver como se merendó en un plisplás a toda esa panda de gabachos culturetas: “disertó sobre la diferencia entre la “teología monástica” y la “teología escolástica” ante un auditorio de personalidades del mundo intelectual y cultural reunidas en París, muchas de las cuales fueron incapaces de seguirle”. Y mira que lo puso fácil.

Un hombre de principios como los que ya no quedan, porque este papa “es un papa conservador, y seguirá siéndolo”, y “no cabe, pues, esperar de él ni la menor desviación, ni la menor concesión”, así que “los dogmas o reglas que, según la Iglesia católica, rigen la vida privada no se moverán”.

Después de leer el artículo se me ha ocurrido que entre todos podríamos hacer una lista de propuestas en esta línea y ayudar así al papa en su trabajo, que bastante difícil lo tiene ya por no tener la “figura carismática de Juan Pablo II”. Ahí va un primer borrador por mi parte:

• Se concelebrarán misas en latín, esperanto y quechua, como signo de universalidad y respeto a las minorías oprimidas. Además, las misas se realizarán a las 12, 2, 4 y 6 de la madrugada para llegar mejor a las jóvenes almas descarriadas.

• Se impulsarán redes comunitarias locales de hermandad, usando los geriátricos como puntos de coordinación.

• Se organizará un simposio mundial en Vanuatu que recoja los logros alcanzados durante la Santa Inquisición. Si este tema no tuviera buena acogida por parte de la prensa se optaría por una conferencia sobre creacionismo: “Lo que la ciencia debe aprender. Propuesta de experimentos”.

• Se esponsorizará al Real Madrid, al Chelsea y a los Lakers.

• Se eliminará cualquier mención a Jesucristo de los libros de filosofía, para detener así los miserables intentos socialistas de confundir al hijo del hombre con un hombre.

• Ahora que el dólar está barato, se realizará una OPA hostil sobre judíos, musulmanes y cristianos no católicos para unificar de una vez por todas todas la religiones abrahámicas.

• Se organizarán renuncias publicas al sexo no-necesario, incluyendo apología del celibato y quema colectiva de condones, todos los primeros domingos de mes.

• Se contratará a la SGAE para denunciar a la cruz roja internacional por violación de derechos de autor.

• Para contrarrestar los movimientos apostáticos se formalizará un registro de creyentes en el que todos los individuos deberán declarar por escrito haber nacido en pecado, e incluirán su número de cuenta. Las mujeres renunciaran además explícitamente a toda aspiración de cargo.

• Se iniciarán misiones evangelizadoras espaciales a la Luna y a Marte (en una primera fase). En ellas deberán embarcar no menos de un 75% de la jerarquía eclesiástica.

• Se priorizará la limitada ayuda al desarrollo a negros, pobres, conversos, con ganas de viajar.

• Se cambiarán los frontispicio de iglesias y catedrales y en lugar del clásico latinajo “ego sum via veritas et vita” se tallará (convenientemente traducido): “ni un paso atrás ni siquiera para tomar impulso”. Lo diseñará Calatrava.

• Los científicos serán declarados personas non-gratas en ciudad de El Vaticano. Se promoverá a su vez un boicot sobre cualquier producto derivado de los inmorales y arrogantes principios de la Física.

• Se aumentará la presencia política de los cardenales en los medios de comunicación exigiendo a los Estados una financiación total, que es lo que dicta el sentido común. Así mismo, para acabar con la ventaja conseguida hasta ahora por los estados islamistas, se tomarán de éstos sus mayores avances para acabar así con la obsoleta idea del estado laico.

• Y finalmente, me propongo como nuevo Director de la Congregación para la Doctrina de la Fe. La verdad es que me haría mucha ilusión.

OK, the Drupalcon was great so I don’t know why I haven’t publish anything yet!

The organization was impeccable, we got a big and modern venue in the lovely city of Szeged, which became the Drupaltown for a few days. We also got wi-fi, sandwiches and coffee for free (what else do we need?). Several sessions at the same time to guarantee you could always find an interesting topic, relevant keynotes (Dries, Mr. PHP aka “I hate frameworks” and the cool designer guy). It was also nice to see the Sun people around — everything is now on-line by the way. Also the pictures.

A jartá of Drupaleros

My main goal was to be updated on Drupal’s status and to meet potential partners for some of our projects (if everything goes well we’ll be releasing the first one by the beginning of November). I also wanted to know how strong was the project, meaning its community (and believe me it is). And alright, I also wanted to spend some days in the sunny and beautiful Hungary, for god’s sake, it was August.

I could say many things about Drupal after the Drupalcon (I’ll be posting more about it, I promise) but if I’ve to choose one idea (hey, not as radical as the other day), I’d go for the application framework concept. Maybe Drupal was originally intended to be just a CMS, I don’t know, but it isn’t anymore. It’s a mature application framework where you can develop all kind of web applications, including a CMS if you want, but not only. With CCK + Views + modules you can get incredible things done, with the ease of PHP but without its spaghettiness.

If you’re working with Drupal or just developing web apps I strongly recommend you not to miss the next one. You’re gonna have fun.
