Amen Ra aus dem belgischen Kortrijk sind seit 2003 mit ihrem imposanten Sound, der sich irgendwo zwischen Doom, Sludge und Hardcore bewegt, unterwegs. Fans von Neurosis und Cult of Luna werden sich also durchaus heimisch fühlen. Einzig Colin van Eeckhout's Gesang scheint nicht so ganz in dieses Schema zu passen und erinnert eher an eine gedehnte Version von Brutality will prevail.
Auf den ersten Blick scheint Religion ein wichtiges Thema der Band zu sein, wie man vom Namen der Band wie auch deren Alben (ua. Mass I, Mass II, Mass III, Mass IV und aktuell in Arbeit: Mass V) her schließen könnte, jedoch wird in den Lyrics und der hübschen, aber schwer zugänglichen Homepage deutlich, dass es eher um die düstere Ästhetik, als theologische Inhalte geht.
Wer die Band einmal unverbindlich live sehen will, der sei an dieser Stelle auf das kostenlose "New Noise Festival" in Karlsruhe hingewiesen.

While I personally do not have a strong connection to either slow core or Low for that matter, I have to admit that the combination of the vibrant voicework and highly somber tone of "Monkey" strikes a powerful cord that I hope the band will expand on in future releases.

While lacking a bit on the epicness-scale compared to Gods of the Earth in sound, Warp Riders' underlying concept certainly doesn't, which I consider selfevident after watching this video, which is supposed to be the first part of a trilogy.
