Mortal Kombat vs. DC to Feature Milder Fatalities
Midway's intention is to 'push the boundaries of a T-rated game.'

When Midway first unveiled Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe last month, word of its T-rating logically led many to assume the usual over-the-top Mortal Kombat violence would be drastically toned down, perhaps even with the elimination of the series-standard "fatality" finishing moves. Well, the assumption was half-right -- in a lengthy interview with GameTap, Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon confirmed fatalities would still be in the game, but the level of violence (and what they'll even be called) will likely be altered.
"There was never any statement on our part that fatalities will be gone or that finishing moves will be gone," said Boon. "We did acknowledge that we won?t be able to do the same kinds of outrageous moves, like tearing someone's head off and the spine being attached to it. But there are a lot of assumptions that there will be no blood in the game, that there are no fatalities in the game. It's an assumption that, because the DC characters will be in there, those features will have to be dropped. My response is that, no, we're modifying fatalities... The names of these moves, and the level of violence we use, are to be determined. But it's certainly not a feature we plan on eliminating from the series."
Boon goes on to say that its Midway's intention to "push the envelope of a T-rated game as far as we can without being an M-rated game," but how far that'll be is hard to say, as there's no black-and-white guideline as to what DC will allow. "It's really a matter of us creating animations in the game and showing them to DC. We'll have Superman or Batman doing these moves and DC will identify certain moves, and we'll go back and forth with them," Boon said.
Also worth noting from the interview is Boon's explanation for how the likes of Scorpion or Sub-Zero (or Batman, for that matter) would possibly be able to survive a battle with Superman. "Well, we know the back stories to the characters. For instance, Superman has two weaknesses, Kryptonite and magic," Boon said. "The Mortal Kombat universe is surrounded by magic -- I mean, we have sorcerers, people from the Nether realms; we have chi and magic attacks. So, remember that cataclysmic event which merges the universes? The source of that is magic. When you mix that in, that explains why Superman, who can move a mountain, who can push a planet, is, in this scenario, weakened a bit."
Magic, people. Magic.

But If they di have those fatalities everyone talks about and I could rip the head of super-man off I would buy this game on release day just to do that. (obviously I'm not a DC fan...I don't like the pretty perfect heros DC has.) I think Marvel vs. Dc would be a better idea.
The gameplay was never really that deep for the series to begin with. Much as I'll probably catch flak for saying this, the entire series is based off of gimmicks (which makes sense considering it began its life as an arcade game). The comments thus far have more or less proven this - if they're going to take out the violence, they'd better put forward some serious developing to make the game enjoyable.
part of the beauty of MK is the over-the-top violence.
add me
PSN= wyldekat
Mortal Combat used to be about gore and mutilation. Friends, that is what brings people together, ninjas, skimpy girls, and ripping peoples' spines out...lessening that is just un-American. And brother I want no part of this fiasco of a game...no thank you...
it'll suck, but I'll wait and see. If it's fun I'll check it out if I'm not too busy playing SC4(yeah, right)
ALmost everyone agrees this is a weird idea that's looking bad. It's a shame that marvel and DC don't feel they could do a versus via EA. Sure it'd be better if capcom or namco did it... heck even snk or tecmo.
It's interest that they answer the superman question because I was wondering why superman would have trouble with scorpion(especially), sub zero, or even Raiden. A weak ass god... compare raiden to Livewire, who superman regularly beats. Its a whole different level of power.
But its magic, so it's alright.
now reading about this game im not happy at all.. this wont even feel like a mortal kombat game. i want to rip batmans head off .. why cant i... i want to punch the jokers head off and watch it bounce.. this sucks.
Let's see...play this game or play SSBB, Soul Calibur 4 and Street Fighter 4? Hmm...gee...lemme think.
Seriously.
Besides I'd rather see Capcom vs. DC.
MK just sucks ass at this point.
Just go download that. It was the last good MK game that wasn't Shaolin Monks.
Please. This franchise should have died long ago. What's going to be next: MK vs. Stargate Universe?, MK vs. Naruto?
Didn't Capcom had the same idea-I dunno-TEN YEARS AGO!?!?!!?!?
It's like Midway, who never had an original idea in the first place(suffering knocked off every survival horror game, Max Payne, and in the second one, Fight Club and Doom 3, Area 51 tried to be Halo) got so desperate for a sale they have to dig up long dead ideas.
I'm curious to know how does Ed Boon sleeps at night ?
As for DC, well, they can't get any lower.
...but no matter how hard I try, I just can't get myself to care about this game. Mortal Kombat jumped the shark a long time ago, I just don't see the MK vs. DC rebooting the franchise.
SHIT! I MEANT MIDWAY! I had ramblings about Activision and GH on my mind, too!
Is Activision TRYING to lose more money?
it's sad to see the dumb pixelated violence from the 90's can't even make it in todays games. i was looking forward to this game, but not so much now.
When this game was announced, I was totally not feeling it.
It better have fatalities, It just can't be called Mortal Kombat without it.
"Superman's weaknesses are kryptonite and magic" - neither of which Batman possesses... but I'm sure David Blaine could kick Superman's ass. Boon, how about instead of trying to make logical sense out of the world of pretend, you say "dude, it's just a game"?
not bad, now the game play need to come along ,and see how great y'all did with the game. keep it up gaming inc.
that's what i think of MK. They should've stopped a loooooooong time ago with this franchise. It just not the same anymore. Not like I really care though I hung up my controller from the series back at MK2, but even reading every "new" MK that comes out its just like...........................NO.
RIP Mortal Kombat
seriously
Boon is now a douche
who the hell wants to play a MK game with hardly any violence?
That just doesnt go....
The bigger question is who the hell will buy this garbage?
because its simply a ploy for cash
Let MK die now!!!!!
Do they realize fighting games barely sell now adays?
do they realize ppl could give 2 shits about MK series since Mk3 trilogy?
WHy in the name of Neil Patrick Harris would I want Mild Fatalities? Thats like asking for plain peanuts on an airplane. I want some Honey roasted ass devouring fatalities.
This series should have died so damn long ago. When this game (Hopefully) tanks, can the MK series die with it?
I hate to say it. But I think the realm of mortal kombat has come to a end. Time to start fresh with a new game all together.
Title says it all. Worst *prominent* fighting series ever.
(expecting at least some flames but I think most agree with me)
