Beyond Good And Evil Sequel in Pre-Production?
Studio has apparently been working on the project for over a year.

Although plenty of folks still keep a candle burning for the nontraditional action of
Beyond Good and Evil, the game's unique mix of platforming and whimsical cartoon style failed to strike a chord at retail even as it charmed reviewers. Although the series was originally slated as a trilogy (anybody who completed the first one knows about the notorious cliffhanger ending), most fans have begrudgingly accepted that the original title was the last thing we could expect to see set in BG&E's world.
But perhaps we all lost hope too soon. In an interview taken from the latest edition of French gaming magazine JeuxVideo, game designer Michel Ancel makes the surprising revelation that not only does a sequel to Beyond Good and Evil actually exist (on paper anyway) but that the title has in fact been in pre-production mode at his studio for over a year.
A translated transcript sheds some further light:
"Beyond Good & Evil was regarded as being one of the best games of 2003. Unfortunately it didn't get the business success to which it was entitled. We've actually been working on Beyond Good & Evil 2 in pre-production for a year, and we're continuing to do do small-committee research on it. At the moment the game is still at the outline stage as Ubisoft hasn't yet technically given its agreement. There are however 10 to 12 people working on the project right now."
We want the game to be set in the continuity of the first title with a large variety of gameplay types and plenty of emotional resonance in the gameplay and the characters. This time we're examining the future of the planet and its relationship with its animal inhabitants."
So while it sounds like the game isn't exactly coming for sure, things are at least looking very hopeful. Ready those cameras, folks, and this time we hope that more of you are willing to take a chance on Jade and her crew of anthropomorphic pals.

I kept passing on the original for so long I almost ended up missing this gem of a game. Glad to hear that this could indeed see a sequel. It is worthy of such.
how about a new game.... not a sequel...
BG&E was one of the top gaming experiences I ever had in my whole gaming life, and I would gladly shell out for a sequel. Though I'm not holding my breath, here's hoping that Ubisoft will roll the dice--Jade's story is one that deserves to be completed.
Just hurry up and get it out before Boll destroys it with another crappy movie.
Finally. Ubisoft finally figured out they needed to finish this series. I give a /clap to them for not being total tards.
I thought this was the end of BG&E, but if Ubisoft agrees, I will totally buy the game on the first day.
a lot of people picked this one up second hand, there are more fans than the sales show, just like Psychonauts.
I was just telling a friend how great the original is less than 3 hours ago! This makes me so happy I could almost cry!
Yes I've been waiting ever since I beat the game for a sequel! The first hit me hard; I hope they deliver on this next installment.
Ubi will green light it and realize the problem was the non-existent marketing campaigns. After all, POP:Sands of Time was released at the same time and also tanked. They upped the marketing for Warrior Within and voila! a franchise was born. GREEN LIGHT THIS GAME, UBI SOFT!!! I want to see something come out of Michael Ancel's studio that ISN'T a Raving Rabbids title...
More like Zelda mixed with MGS.
They really should release BG&E on Xbox Originals, that would give a legion of gamers a second chance to check it out, and it would also serve as PR for a sequel:)
Lets hope it gets picked up. This game was somewhat of a platformer, but with some cool elemnts that didnt make it feel so much like one. Here's to hoping....Cross your fingers folks
I need to play my copy of the first one more but this is great that UbiSoft is wanting to push this cool idea more.
I got my copy for the PS2. I don't know if it was released on XBox.
It was released for PS2, Xbox, GameCube, and PC.
I picked up the original game when Sam Goody's was starting to go out of business - paid $9 for a brand new copy. I'm looking foward to this sequel!
I never played Beyond Good & Evil, one of those games that got missed. Was it a PS2 or Xbox exclusive? Maybe if they want to drum up support for a sequel and convince Ubi to fund it they could put the original up on PSN or Live.
So we all pretty much layed witness to the fact the the video game industry for the past two years have had a pretty one track mind in terms of content: namely bald space marines, but when you combind this with the recent annoucements of EWJ 4, and Banjo Kazzoie- Nuts and Bolts, the industry may be changing for the better...
So I can actually play it. That game is pretty hard to find.
This is quite possibly the best thing I've heard all month!
It's good to know the sequel still has life. It is long overdue for a sequel. Hopefully it will still be a trilogy.
I also agree that it should come out on multiple platforms.

There couldn't be any better news than this. Let's hope this game comes to fruition, the first game is a classic and with the current hardware this game could change the gaming landscape to new heights.
if it really is coming, please be on all consoles, Wii, PS3, and 360. Oh, and PC fans deserve the sequel as well.
