Michelle Obama Fair Game for Another State GOP
July 17, 2008 10:37 PM
The Washington State Republican Party -- following the lead of the Tennessee State GOP, and its controversial Web ad vilifying Michelle Obama -- has launched a Web ad of its own "welcoming" Michelle Obama to the Evergreen State.
The Web video makes hay out of her "for the first time in my adult life I am proud of my country" comment, featuring various state GOP officials saying they're "proud to be an American," and then pledging allegiance to the flag.
Presumably, that's a dig at the false smear that Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., refuses to say the pledge himself.
Washington's Democratic Gov. Chris Gregoire issued this statement in response: "I was proud to welcome Michelle Obama, who clearly loves our country deeply, here to Washington state this morning. These shameless attacks by the state Republican Party have no place in our politics. If John McCain is serious about running a 'respectful' campaign on the issues, he and Republican leaders like Dino Rossi will denounce this tasteless attack ad and tell the state Republican Party to pull the plug on it immediately. After eight years of the most divisive, fear-driven politics this country has ever seen, I agree with Sen. Obama that it's time to turn the page and bring Americans together."

This is all confusing. I know many of us in South Carolina did not support John McCain in 2000 because of the false rumor that he fathered a black child. Now that we have gotten to know him and Cindy we know that is impossible in God's plan. Are they trying to trick us again about Obama fathering a black child?

Spouses are fair game as long as they make themselves surrogates for their husbands - which Michelle definitely has. Michelle is a bitter and angry woman - you wouldn't want her in the White House!! She believes America is a mean-spirited country, only proud of her country now because the public fawns over her husband. Suck it up and stop being cry babies, Obamas - what makes you special anyway! If you can't stand the heat, kindly get out of the kitchen!

If Michelle comes out and gives speeches, is a surrogate for Obama then she is fair game.
She is also fair game because we do not want Obama to be President, and we do not want Michelle to be First Lady.
But have no fear because come August at the Denver Convention H.R. Clinton's name will be place in Nomination in the First Roll Call and she will be chosen as the Democratic Leader in the General Election..
PumaPac, Just Say No Deal, Denver Group et al call upon Clintn supporters to come and join us in our endeavor to get Hillary elected.

I get the impression that the Republican party is getting more and more desperate with every passing day. It will be interesting to see just how low these supposedly loyal americans will sink before they lose in November. With patriots like today's Republican party we really are our own worst enemy.

The "really" is not edited out - she actually had two speeches on the same day. The first one she just said "I am proud" and in the second one she said "really proud". My take is her handlers caught wind and told her to make the change in her second speech. I've seen both versions.

To NOBODYS FOOL. What you are is a "LIBERAL FOOL" When we get to a point in this great Country of mine where I see and hear Fool's like you spewing you're crap over and thru the media outlets I want to throw up. Remember one thing fool, when respect and love for that GREAT FLAG are gone you will be gone also. People like you who stand for nothing will FALL for anything. What a shame it is that you and those like you will never know what it feels like to be a TRUE patriot.

The Republican party is morally bankrupt. If pledging allegiance to the flag is all they have to offer America, then I'm really proud to say that Barack Obama will be the next President of the United States.

If Barack Obama can dictate to the media that which is off limits, then a terrible precedent is set for any future he may have as an elected official. This is PRECISELY the same tactics the Bush Administration used to squelch news coverage of the war.
National campaigns are tough. Truth is, she knows this and so does he. These statements from Obama are attempts to turn the women voters in his direction. Remember the predictions from his campaign that women will vote for him in droves.
It seems they have a plan.

I think it's funny that Obama had no problem when he had his campaign attack Hillary and Chelsea-of course Bill was ALWAYS fair game. His supporters didn't have any problem attacking Cindy McCain. Say what you want-he's still a wuss.

Did Barack Obama ever make any statements to condemn the Ryan's sealed divorce records being released? Did he express concern about Jeri Ryan and her children's privacy and urge voters to disregard that information?
Did Obama ever make a statement about the Vanity Fair piece hitting Bill Clinton in the waning days of Hillary's campaign?
Has he asked the two blogs with which he has interacted to stop discussing Cindy McCain?
Obama's problem is that he doesn't stand up for others.

J - The flag is a man-made symbol, nothing more, nothing less. What I DO respect is the lives of our kids who are fighting and dying for a lie perpetrated on this country and the rest of the world by an administration for which I dearly hope there is reserved a small corner in hell. Our kids didn't deserve this disgusting, self-serving outrage pushed on us by Bush and company. How many of you remember - "three months and we'll be out of there" "shock and awe" "they'll be waiting for us with open arms" So, 4000+ dead, thousands horribly wounded, both physically and emotionally with no real help from the government who doesn't want to pay for their therapy. Give me a break. We are the laughing stock of the planet. The flag means nothing to me but our kids' lives do.

Posted by: counting crows | Jul 18, 2008 9:13:01 AM
counting crows,
The flag is not a piece of material. It represents the United States of America.
People have died for the freedoms you enjoy today and military families have been torn apart for people like you. How ungrateful can you get. I have a suggestion, move to a country where you don't have the freedom that you have here and maybe you will respect that "piece of material"!

Michelle Obama was not running for office, Hillary Clinton was/is. If Michelle announces her bid for an elected seat, then she's fair game. Geez.

Hillary and Chelsea weren't running for public office back before Bill got elected and they were fair game. Obama needs to grow a pair.

Pay attention: Michelle Obama never left home, and has said that she will continue to stay home during the election to raise their daughters (currently being babysat by their grandmother). If she has abandoned them to be raised by a nanny, then you'd be all over that, too.

Omg,
If she is in the public eye she is fair game. Hillary has put up with this kind of stuff for years and she sucked it up. They've picked on Chelsea as well. Do you see them crying like babies. Heck no. Obama criticized Bill Clinton in the primaries. Politics is an ugly business. If you don't have the b-lls to put up with this stuff don't run.
Posted by: J | Jul 18, 2008 8:24:47 AM
Isn't Michelle also the woman who said she'd like to claw Bill Clinton's eyes out? And then said, "Just kidding"? It's a two-way street. And this is the most bitter, divisive campaign I've seen in 40+ years of voting. Black pride and 'white guilt' have combined to make this an election in which we are told that it is unacceptable to say anything uncomplimentary about only one candidate, and his surrogates.
Posted by: Charlie35 | Jul 18, 2008 8:21:02 AM
Michele's half sentence is not fair game at all. Angry, unhappy and nasty people like Rossi, Hannety etc. have no other issue to put on the table for discussions and are afraid of a smart, well-educated, beautiful, a good mother, and intelligent black lady like Michele that is why they have to hang on a half sentence, a sound bite and transform it into a subject of that distraction because that will not solve energy crisis, war crisis, economic crisis, low approval rate at international level, etc. Eight years of WBush-Cheney-McSame' s lack of leadership, fearmongering and warmongering have brought America very close to bankrupcy and economic collapse. Hannety's America is a faillure. Let us make issues the center of the political debate and not the wife of a candidate. If a wife of a candidate should be fair game then then let us about their IQ, their accomplishments, I am sure that Michele Obama is on top of Cindy McSame. Godd save America from Hannety, Rush, McSame+ 3rd term WBush-Cheney. God bless America and God bless Obama. OBAMA08

even a hint of anything-has been fair game.
there is a whole cottage industry in the msm making it's living on running the clinton' hillary too, down.
so of course it is not right, it was and is not right for the clinton' and it is not right toward the obama'
but it is what it is.
and obama is a humbug indeed.

The GOP can get plenty of good shots in against Obama without bringing his wife into the mix. McCain needs to get involved and shut these anti-Michelle attacks down. Oh, wait...

yes, Sen. clinton has always been
"fair game" to the pack of wolves always biting at her.
The Clinton' just as all public servants are as soon as you try to serve, there is a public out there waiting to eat you up.
the obama' need to just be quiet, and be snipped at like the rest of them.

I don't believe Hillary was fair game in 92', I don't believe Cindy McCain was fair game in 04', and I don't believe Michelle Obama should be fair game in 08'. It's sad but there's nothing the Obama's can do, so just suck it up like Hillary and Cindy McCain.
I also find it ironic that it's always the Republican attacking the wives.
Posted by: Vanessa | Jul 18, 2008 7:18:00 AM
She is campaigning for him, any gaffes are fair game, barack better suck it up he can't expect anyone to say nothing. Just like people got on Bill, about the primary's when bill why saying he couldnt believe how bad hillary was beign treated just for continuing to run. Michelle commented on Hillary not beign able to take care of her house(refering to bill's affairs)and Michelle said that she wasnt sure she would vote for Hillary if she became the nomniee, Hillary never said anything about her, so michelle and barack need to suck it up and take it on the chin you are not the untouchables.
Posted by: rachel | Jul 18, 2008 7:04:10 AM
If McCain was all that, then the GOP wouldn't be spewing about, "the other guy." (or wife)
The truth is, there's nothing to say about McCain. We said it all 4 and 8 years ago. . . . . .look at how that turned out!
Posted by: DAVID NH | Jul 18, 2008 7:00:56 AM
I say fight fire with fire and a touch of gasoline to boot. Let's disect Cindy McCain and her actual problems such as drug abuse, Larceny, Husband stealing and a whole host of other unpleasantries in the McCain history!
Truthfully speaking I would prefer that the campaigns would concentrate on the issues challenging America, rather the politics of personal destruction and attack ads. After all one of these ladies will eventually be the First Lady.
That the Washington GOP thinks this is the way to win an election is a startling testament to the absense of ideas and policies of the GOP. The GOP will soon realize that the politics of fear and divisiveness will breed in even more contempt for the GOP. Those that live by the smear will ultimately be defeated through their own means!

Possible tactical philosophies:
1. We know his achille's heel is Michelle, so let's attack her?
2. Maybe we can get away with it, since she is a Black woman?
Cowardice at its finest... Unwavering weakness, low down and dirty.
Michelle Obama is a dynamic woman and the attacks against her are unfounded, and slimy. The attackers are just as repulsive as their weak tactics. Michelle is a true sister, with broad shoulders and expansive wings. She will fly in the midst of adversity and feel no sting. She is a true American.
Posted by: clarity | Jul 18, 2008 1:28:34 AM
Michelle Obama hates America as much as Rev. Wright hates America. All the anti-war morons who voted for Obama will realize that they blew the chance to takeover the WhiteHouse by supporting Obama.
I think Obama is done. Look at the video posted on McCain's web site and you will see the audacity of Obama to lie without worrying about consequences.
Posted by: Some One | Jul 18, 2008 1:25:42 AM
Michelle Obama should stay home and bake cookies. If she wades into the political arena, then we can offer our opinion of her just as she can offer her opinion about America.
I think she is done. Stick a fork in her.

Personally I believe, when a family member is acting as a surrogate for a Candidate, anything they say or do in that capacity is up for scrutiny. I find it hypocritical of BO to say "Lay off my wife, she's not running for President" because, simply put, he routinely chose to attack HRC's spouse during the Primary.
Posted by: tlk | Jul 17, 2008 11:23:51 PM
A Party that resorts to attacking a candidate's wife is a PATHETIC ONE INDEED.
Besides, sooner or later this approach is bound to antagonize a good proportion of the female vote.
