Burgers on the Edge Review

I’m a big meat eater, and when after grocery shopping at the new and large Safeway in Kapahulu, we stopped by the brand new Burgers on the Edge restaurant. There were more than a few people there, so we figured why not give it a try. But man oh man, was I disappointed…on so many levels.

Burgers on the Edge is actually a gourmet burger restaurant from the creators of Formaggios (a GREAT restaurant and wine bar at Marketcity Shopping Center under the H1 Freeway), so I expected good things. The restaurant itself was very small, but they did have a decently cool layout with flat panel TV screens on the walls to show you the menu, rotating pictures of what they serve, and a make-your-own burger menu.

I ended up ordering a burger with gruyere cheese, bacon, grilled onions, roasted red peppers, sundried tomatoes, and garlic aioli in a ciabatta bun. Sounds good right? With that many toppings, you would think there would be a lot of taste. Guess again. It tasted really plain. I do have to agree that the burger was decently large and it was juicy, but I couldn’t really taste much. It kind of threw me off. The ciabatta wasn’t warm either, which wasn’t too pleasant since it was cold. Was it worth the $9? No, not at all.

My girlfriend on the other hand got the stuffed portabella mushroom sandwich. Whatever it was stuffed with, she told me it wasn’t good and that it looked like there was no stuffing to begin with. The worst part of it? She said it was COLD…no, not even luke warm, not room temperature…COLD. Pretty nasty.

We also ordered the regular fries, and wow, how can you mess up fries? They were hot but they weren’t crispy at all. In fact, they were kind of soggy and didn’t have much taste. If you like potatoes without salt, this may be for you, but we both didn’t like it. To give them some credit, it tasted like fresh cut potatoes instead of frozen potatoes. But that’s the only plus I can give the fries.

So the total ended up costing us $25 for the two sandwiches, one order of regular fries, and one drink. Was it worth it? Not even a little. The wait also took about 15 minutes to receive our food. REALLY?! That long for a burger? I could see people outside getting irritated that their food was taking quite a while as well. I can’t blame them.

So save your money and go elsewhere for a burger. You can find better for cheaper…MUCH cheaper.

They must stop precooking the burgers! I have never heard any other upscale burger place do this. Totally ruins the good meat since their burgers are DRY and the bun STILL manages to fall apart. If Kua Aina can serve a juicy burger and still have the bun hold together, others can too.

I actually enjoyed my experience at Burgers on the Edge. I ordered a burger with smoked bacon, tomatoes, romaine lettuce, gruyere cheese, and portobello mushrooms. I dinned in and they served my burger to my table. I ate indoors and the atmosphere was very warm and welcoming. My burger was warm and flavorful! The restaurant was clean and the staff was very friendly. You probably didn’t eat your meal right away causing it to become cold. Their food is fresh and if you wanted greasy deep fried food, you should have gone and ate at a fast food place where you could have had salty crispy fries.

I eat there at least twice a week. I order a burger with jalapeno ketchup, romaine lettuce, sliced onions, tomatoes, and jalapeno peppers. And I get it to go. By the time I get home my burger is still warm and juicy and full of flavor. And my fries are always crispy. My response to the couple that stated their burger was COLD and nasty and that their was not enough stuffing, instead, of complaining, did you ever think about informing anyone there about your food? If they are not informed, how do you expect them to fix the problem. And the part about people being irritated (that is an out right lie), I always wait for my order inside the restaurant, I always hear the cashiers tell each customer how long it will take, even when its not busy. So stop whining and complaining and take a more proactive approcach. How do you expect them to improve.

I saw this place on the way to the beach and not knowing a new buger place compelled me to stop by on the way back. At first, I was just looking up at the menue in awe that they had prime beef and then to send me further into space, wagyu beef. after picking prime, I startedd to move to the right of the menue, choosing cheese, toppings and sauses.Paid and was given a number and went outside. Within 4=5 minutes, my order was up. I was very happy with the size and how juicy my burger was. It was dripping as I ate it and could tase the garlic aioli sause down my throat as I swallowed. The meat was extremly tatsy and the special artisian bread held togther well. What a wonderful gourmet burger. I AM GOUNG BACK NEXT WEEK AND BRINGING TWO OTHERS SO THEY TELL TWO PEOPLE AND SO ON, AND SO ON…..One of the best burger on island

This place is a potential public health nightmare. My first burger was barely cooked. After bringing it to the manager’s attention, he offered me a replacement. While cooked slightly more, the replacement still had plenty of red and pink (undercooked) meat. With the potential for illness from undercooked meat (i.e. e. coli, etc.), I won’t be eating there again.

Are you kidding? This place is a nightmare! I don’t know how there are any positive reviews of this place. Not only is it expensive, but the bread is ALWAYS soggy, the wait takes forever, and the burgers are tasteless! Unless the positive reviews are some people who work there (which it totally sounds like), I can’t see how you enjoyed your meal unless you have very low standards. The price is outrageous for what they serve. They can’t even deep fry french fries correctly. I know a ton of people who are outraged about their food from Burgers on the Edge, and the best positive response I got was that the burgers were “okay”. Doesn’t sound so positive does it? Maybe I’ll ask my friends to visit this site and let you guys know more about how bad this place is.

Looking for a good burger? Then I recommend you should try this place. My experience with them so far is good. I’ve tried a lot of places to eat but no place has ever made me go back for their burger but this place has all in one, good customer service, cool ambiance and burger for people with high standard. I will definitely go back there again.

I have no idea what the heck this reviewer is talking about he and Jimmy obviously don’t know good food. I’ve been there twice in 3 days. The Truffled Fries are AWESOME and no one around me (all tables inside and outiside were full) — was irritated, because the food came out very quickly.

For the record … I DON’T WORK THERE and I have VERY HIGH STANDARDS for my food. So Jimmy and review guy, go back to eating your grade D beef burgers and I’ll continue to enjoy my burgers on the edge.
