Awk pai!

I'm not much of a football fan (soccer to Americans). And I don't have to pretend to like it to be popular with the boys, haha. And although I pay attention to politics in Thailand it's not a subject for this blog. But the recent news stories about stuff the owner of Manchester City has been doing is worth a note I think.

You know who I am talking about. Our former PM, Thaksin. He bought Manchester City a while ago. And recently there has been one strange story after another. There was news that he was going to fire the popular coach Sven Eriksson. Then there was news that he wanted the players to bow to him before each game. And today I read that Eriksson, who is "being shown the door", was asked his opinion on a new player.

Some news stories from UK papers are saying we must have strange ideas over here in Thailand. Hey, that stuff the owner is doing seems weird to me and probably many other Thai people. So don't blame his weird behavior on Thai culture.

I also read that some fans in England are planning to protest. Before the coup we had thousands of people marching in Bangkok chanting "Thaksin, awk pai!" (Thaksin, get out). It must seem like deja vu to Thaksin. To make it really surreal the English protesters should use the same chant.
