    Quick Note

    By clairec23 | May 16, 2008

Just a quick note to let you all know that the judging process is still continuing.  I have had another little setback - the charger on my laptop broke so I can’t access a lot of the contestant information until a new one is delivered from America but hopefully by the time the winners have been decided, it will have arrived and I’ll be able to see who actually wrote the winning entries!  Again, thanks for the patience and good luck to everyone who has taken part.  Fingers crossed that things start going as planned from here on out.

Edit:  Forgot to mention that I won’t have access to my Bebo Author email account until the charger arrives either but I can be reached on my regular hotmail account that I use to leave comments with.

Edit again:  I can’t update the blog with new posts for some reason that I haven’t been able to figure out but I can edit this post so that will have to do for now.

Good news…for a change J  As of today I have found a company who have my laptop charger in stock and who will venture to deliver it to Ireland so hopefully it won’t be too long before it arrives.  Little bit sickening to buy another one less than a year after I bought the last one but it has to be done.   We’re also getting somewhere with the contest.  Although I began with three judges, only one has actually judged the entries which has been a lot of hard work for her particularly as she was also committed to another contest this year too.  But she has persevered and gotten through the first major stage of the process, the entries have been whittled down significantly and it is getting quite exciting!  Remember that the entries were hugely diverse which has made the contest that much harder to judge so I thank Sam Priestley for the huge amount of time and hard work she has invested into all of the entries. As for the entries themselves, I would like to discuss them further but I don’t think that would be fair although if anyone was keen to hear an opinion on their story then I’m sure we could work something out.  I know that people are keen for feedback but not everyone has the same opinion.

Don’t forget that the forum can be used to discuss writing techniques and contest entries, etc. so if your story was posted on the blog at a future date and you did not feel comfortable with any discussions on your work then feel free to let me know.  Again, the forum is there for immediate feedback as I am not available regularly enough to maintain this blog so use it whenever you like.

I had the charger (is that the chord that plugs into the wall?) break on my laptop last month. It cost me over $100 for another 1. I was shocked! Very expensive.

I see you silently holding the curtains, waiting by a rain dripped window staring into the gray day looking for the post man with the package.

BTW, how many folks entered this contest?

I am sorry to say that I have decided to remove my entry from the competition. To Claire and all the judges, please remove “The Boy in the Window” from consideration.

For more details about why, you may check out the post on my blog: http://www.huntingthemuse.com/2008/05/be-warned.html

It’s not the price, it’s the availability that’s bothering me - if anyone can tell me of somewhere that delivers panasonic toughbook chargers to Ireland, I will be forever grateful. Note to self, never buy a laptop again without making sure the chargers are actually sold in Ireland.

There were over 130 entries I think.

Anyway, even if I’m still waiting for the stupid charger, I’ll probably post the shortlist of entries (when available) on the blog so at least the writers can see if they are in the running. I won’t be able to verify the titles or the writers until I get access to my stupid laptop but at least everyone will be able to read each other’s work. I wanted to set up a little forum where everyone could discuss their work but I need the stupid charger for that too because stupid me never realized that I wouldn’t be able to access my server without the information that I have saved on my stupid laptop.

To summarize, I am an idiot…

Sorry you’re having to wait for a charger. That seriously stinks. Good luck in getting it soon. And your contest sounds like fun. I’ll have to check back and see how its coming along.

For some reason I haven’t been able to post anything the last couple of days, I’m not sure why, it keeps coming up error on page and won’t let me type into the text box but anyway, after I wrote that last comment I figured out how to get back into my server account so I made a quick forum because I’m so crap at getting back to comments and the like. I just figured people might want to add their links or talk about the contest (without the comments having to wait on me to moderate them). So, just in case, there is now a forum at http://forum.beboauthor.com for anyone who wants to use it basically.

Hey Claire, have you thought of doing a reinstall of Wordpress? Not sure what version you’re running, but it may help to do a complete reinstall. It doesn’t sound like there is an issue with your database, as you’re able to update this post. Unless you have some size limit by your host. Just a thought on your current issue with your site.

With my run of luck lately I’m a bit scared to reinstall wordpress in case I feck it up completely. I do have plenty of space left so that isn’t an issue, it just won’t let me type in any text whenever I try to write a new post, it won’t let me edit my drafts either so it’s quite annoying, I thought maybe it was just a general short term problem that other people were having but apparently not…

I’d say as a first step to try out some sort of blogging program. Not as a fix, per say, but just to see if you can still write to the database. If this works, then it could only be the writing portion. If it doesn’t, it’s something a bit more complex. I’d say try something a little light weight for the test, like Blogdesk. This is assuming you haven’t tried this yet. I’m not sure if there’s an web based XML-RPC tool out there, but if someone out there knows, I’d say link it here. Anyways, hope these answers help a bit.
