I hope you're right since I'm so sick of hearing Dems talk about how no one at the RNC has brought up McCain's policies...even though I don't remember hearing hardly any of that at the DNC
Justin - have you heard about the "Politics of Jesus" conference at FBC Durham yet? It would be great if you'd do a post on it. The information is at www.politicsofjesus2008.com Good folks involved!
He talked about lower taxes and drilling, though not in very specific terms . . .
Taxes
"I will keep taxes low and cut them where I can. My opponent will raise them. I will open new markets to our goods and services. My opponent will close them. I will cut government spending. He will increase it.
"My tax cuts will create jobs. His tax increases will eliminate them. My health care plan will make it easier for more Americans to find and keep good health care insurance. His plan will force small businesses to cut jobs, reduce wages, and force families into a government run health care system where a bureaucrat stands between you and your doctor.
"Keeping taxes low helps small businesses grow and create new jobs. Cutting the second highest business tax rate in the world will help American companies compete and keep jobs from moving overseas. Doubling the child tax exemption from $3500 to $7000 will improve the lives of millions of American families. Reducing government spending and getting rid of failed programs will let you keep more of your own money to save, spend and invest as you see fit. Opening new markets and preparing workers to compete in the world economy is essential to our future prosperity."
Drilling
"My fellow Americans, when I’m President, we’re going to embark on the most ambitious national project in decades. We are going to stop sending $700 billion a year to countries that don’t like us very much. We will attack the problem on every front. We will produce more energy at home. We will drill new wells offshore, and we’ll drill them now. We will build more nuclear power plants. We will develop clean coal technology. We will increase the use of wind, tide, solar and natural gas. We will encourage the development and use of flex fuel, hybrid and electric automobiles.
"Senator Obama thinks we can achieve energy independence without more drilling and without more nuclear power. But Americans know better than that. We must use all resources and develop all technologies necessary to rescue our economy from the damage caused by rising oil prices and to restore the health of our planet. It’s an ambitious plan, but Americans are ambitious by nature, and we have faced greater challenges. It’s time for us to show the world again how Americans lead."
One of the best things McCain can do is "adjust" his position on "climate change" and make a statement like this. "Though there is some debate in our country over whether climate change is occuring, I believe that it is. Though, there is much debate over whether human activity is the primary cause of this climate change, I believe that may be a significant factor. However, even if this is the case, I am convinced that the remedies proposed by Senator Obama are far worse than the problem. I now realize that the legislation introduced by my good friends, Senators Warner and Lieberman, would have a disastrous impact on the American economy. It would also do little to solve the problem it proposes to address since global carbon emissions would only increase as manufacturing and other industries are pushed out of the US and into China and India...." McCain could then go on to list many specific ways that Obama's climate change solutions would damage the American economy and impact working, middle class Americans.

I predict he'll mention the name of his VP, Sarah Palin if you haven't heard!

That may have been the worst convention acceptance speech I have ever heard.
JT,
Would that be 0 for 2? I know about that (having been wrong on both VP picks). -:)
I wonder if his bit about cutting business taxes was his version of a "middle class tax cut."
Talked about being a war hero, being a maverick and about his VP pick.
I'd say that's probably the only shot he has at winning this election and although the speech was not fantastic, it is possibly good enough.
For the record, I was one for one.
