Great news! Binary Boy is definitely still head down, confirmed via a quick ultrasound today at my 37-week prenatal appointment. Also, for all 2 of you who know “pregnancy speak”, here’s where I’m at:

Baby has engaged or “dropped”

He is at -1 Station

I am 1/2 centimeter dilated already*

Also, my normal Braxton Hicks contractions have been more often, much longer, more uncomfortable and somewhat painful. In addition, I’ve been having false labor pains in my back. On the tune of about 1-2 an hour. Sometimes, they migrate to my abdomen, which is a good sign and means I am more than likely continuing to dilate.

In a nutshell, and for those of you who read this and felt like they were reading Greek, it means everything is going accordingly! w00t! Probably time to get that bag packed sometime soon, hmm?

*I know 1/2 centimeter doesn’t seem like much, but considering that Binary Boy has been breech up until this past Wednesday, the fact that I’m dilated at all is a super great sign. Typically, the baby’s head pushing on the opening of the cervix is what helps dilation occur (in conjunction with contractions, and, of course, hormones), so it means that during the past 2 days his head has helped in dilation. If it continues at this rate, well, he could be born right on time.

One of my most favorite places to go birding is the Union Bay Natural Area (UBNA), which I have always known as the Montlake Fill. I called the doctor today to get a perscription for Xanax. I simply cannot be on an airplane for more than 3 or 4 hours without having a meltdown. And I mean a serious meltdown. So, they are calling it in for me.

But, as I was talking to the doctors office today, I started freaking out. My heart started racing, my face got flushed, I edged ever nearer to that panic line. Being cooped up in the airplane just freaks my ass out. Even typing this I can feel my heart start to pound. A co-worker asked me if it's going to help with my husband on the flight with me on the way out and I said absolutely not. If we crash, we leave our children orphans. Which MAKES IT SO MUCH WORSE! Shit, I think I could use a Xanax now. :)

Anyway, Italy sounds so exotic and romantic. I've been there once - but didn't get any time to see anything. Maybe this time I'll get a bit of a chance to do some sightseeing. Plus, Hubby will be there over the weekend. A weekend in Italy without the kids - OMG! It just sounds heavenly.

If I can get there without having a nervous breakdown.

Those of you who have been following the story of the endangered Kura, or Rimatara Lory, Vini kuhlii, will be very excited to know that these rare birds are producing babies! Last year, 27 Rimatara lories, or Kura, were translocated from the island of Rimatara to the rat-free island of Atiu, which is part of their historic range. The translocated birds were recently documented to be producing chicks in their new (historic) home.
Read the rest of this post... | Read the comments on this post...

Buddha has an audition on Tuesday morning. I'm assuming it's for a print ad, but I don't know for sure. All I know is that Barb at Animal Connection wanted to know if Buddha can look upwards for a treat while still keeping his ears upright and perked. And he can. We have to drive out to Edina for the audition which is a drain on my tight gas budget, but I'm going anyway.
