Is eBay Dead?

Posted by: ritasdigest on: May 9, 2008

The Consumerist has a nightmarish story about a guy who desperately tried to sell his laptop on eBay, only to be foiled by Nigerian spammers several times. Did he receive any help from the company? Would it be a story if he had? I don’t know about you guys, but I really miss the old days of selling and buying on eBay. Now I just need to wait for Craigslist to make its way to the boonies.

Disclaimer: Don’t read the story unless you just feel like getting angry for the pure fun of it.

Trying to sell anything expensive on E-Bay is a bit stupid really…

Not necessarily. There are people making a living by selling and buying on ebay

Actually, Jonathan, trying to sell anything INEXPENSIVE on eBay is a dumb idea! Besides paying insertion fees and final value fees, selling low ticket items on eBay will score you more negs and neutrals because the shipping costs are proportionately high in relation to the item sold. Buyers don’t care that it cost you more to ship than they paid in shipping. And they won’t thank you for helping them find something unusual that was not available in a local store. No-sir-ee… And if something goes wrong — God help you! Buyers would rather neg you instead of trying to resolve a problem now that they can do so without consequence. It’s just not safe to sell on eBay anymore.
