Neo Classmate err Neo Explore X1 seen in Davao
My blogger friend Dom saw a Neo Explore X1 formerly known as Neo Classmate) in one of the computer stores here in Davao City.
It looks like an OLPC!
Its supposed to be a competitor of the Asus Eee PC… but based from Dom’s review… i think only kids will like it.
Here’s the specs:
* CPU : Intel Celeron Mobile Processor 900 Mhz
* Chipset : Intel GMS915
* OS : Windows XP - Starter Edition
* Memory : 512 MB
* Storage : 30 GB HDD
* LCD : 7″ - 800 x 480 color LCD
* Audio : Built-in-2-channel audio, speaker, and microphone
* Network : 10/100M Ethernet + 802.11 b/g Wifi
* USB : 2 x USB 2.0
* Battery : 6-cells Lithium ion, 3-4 hours usage time
* Dimension : 245 x 196 x 44mm
* Weight : < 1.45 kg
Its being sold for less than P17,000.00. Cheaper then the first released Asus Eee PC (which is around 19k). Its also cheaper than the 8Gb and 12 GB Eee PC. Plus you already have an OS installed- Windows XP.
Its cheap.. but i think its not cool. The screen is only 7 inches but i think length of the whole unit is more than 10 inches. There are a lot of “unused space”.
Plus Dom said: “The specs also mention an onboard SD/MMC card reader but on the unit I inspected, it was notably absent. ” And “the Explore X1 does not have an onboard webcam”.
But its just the outside that we’re looking at here.. It has an intel processor and 30 GB HDD. Nice performance for a not so cool looking UMPC.
