Amazon has recently started promoting high definition with sales for both Blu-ray and HD DVD content. On select Blu-ray titles, customers can purchase 3 discs for the price of two, where they get the lowest priced item at no additional cost. It has also cut the price of Blu-ray titles by up to 47%.
In an aim for Amazon to clear its remaining stock of HD DVD titles, Amazon has now cut the price of these HD DVD titles by up to 60%. For the owners of dual-format Blu-ray & HD DVD drives, this will be one way of recouping some of the player's cost by choosing the cheaper HD DVD versions of the movies they are interested in, for which HD DVD versions exist and are still on sale.
Best Buy has also decided to run its own high definition promotion by offering a Sony PC equipped with Blu-ray capability for a discount price and pricing select Blu-ray disc titles at $24.99.
