What a difference a year makes

by: Lucas O'Connor

Sat Mar 29, 2008 at 09:28:52 AM PDT

Last year, the convention was down the hill from my front door, and it was the first or second time I had met many of the bloggers and activists from around the state.  This year, in my first hour in the Convention Center I was happy to see again dozens of fellow bloggers, candidates, activists and friends from every corner of the state.

The growing community is fantastic, but I'm sure that the growing list of disclaimers raises some questions.  Workings within the system has long been established as the preferred tactic, and I'm energized by the possibilities.  The growth and nuance and personal relationships are encouraging as we head into today's activities.

First Carbon Neutral Convention (8.00 / 1)
As per Chairman Torres.

Of course, since we entered the convention center this morning, a whole forest must have been felled, judging from the reams of papers being shoved in our faces.

I found that fascinating (8.00 / 2)
Especially at the progressive caucus yesterday, where all kinds of handouts were regularly circulated - even though these usually wound up on the floor, in the recycling bin, or crumpled up in the trash.

Surely there is a better way.

It's just good to be here (8.00 / 1)
Heh, I sound like someone who got a surprise Oscar nomination. But after last year, where I could only watch from Seattle, it's great to actually be in the thick of things, meeting people, putting faces to familiar names.

Torres on Presidential Primary (8.00 / 1)
He's claiming that Michigan and Florida will somehow be seated.

Reminding the audience that the Democratic Party has a history of "spirited primaries."

Some calls from the gathered reminding him that the Dems often lose.

Torres focusing fire on McCain: linnking savings of loans and mortgage crisis. Reverend Hagee. "It's time to talk about John McCain." George Bush 3rd. Hundred years in Iraq ("Fine. Let him move to Baghdad.")

Wow. He just called Lieberman a turncoat. He's nauseated that we nominated hi VP in 2000.

Information will be on website in order to educate everyone on the talking points.

Torres on Neighborhood Leader Program (8.00 / 1)
In partnership with Howard Dean and DNC.

Everybody get out there and talk to 25 neighbors!

Ha. (0.00 / 0)
Torres says he is not going to recognize quorum calls.
