Speck SeeThru Hard Shell for the iMac Review
Speck’s SeeThru Candy Colored Hard Shell for the iMac has been designed with two purposes in mind. 1. To protect your sexy iMac from the elements 2. To give it a unique look. The first time we laid eyes on the SeeThru, it instantly brought us back memories of candy colored shell iMacs of yore. So there is definitely a retro design element to the SeeThru.
Installation:
The SeeThru slips right on to the front of the iMac. It takes a whole two seconds to do and is just as easily removed.
Construction:
The SeeThru is made of a sturdy thick plastic that does a good job of protecting your investment from scrapes, scratches, minor bumps and splashes. If you have young children around, then the SeeThru is a great way to keep your computer safe from the little ones kids damaging it by accident. We imagine that the SeeThru would also be very valuable in school classrooms and dorms where an iMac is likely to suffer a lot of wear and tear damage. Also, because it’s available in different colors, perhaps it could be used some sort of color coding system for different workstations.
Design:
The SeeThru does not cover the back of the iMac, but that would likely cause overheating issues. It also has an opening on the front that leaves just enough room for the iMac’s iSight to operate. The SeeThru adds a dimension of uniqueness to your iMac. Some people who saw it thought it was a custom Mac or a new model all together from Apple, others thought it was just a “cool” accessory or that it was “really cute”. On the other hand we can’t imagine that the SeeThru would be appropriate in a conservative business environment.
Conclusion:
Overall, we like that Speck’s SeeThru makes your iMac stand out amongst all the other iMacs on the block. We also appreciate the retro vibe it has going for it and that it does a good job of protecting your iMac’s facade from wear and tear. Speck’s SeeThru retails for $49.95 and is available in aqua, red, pink and black.
The Good:
Adds unique flavor to your iMac, Protects iMac from wear and tear
The Bad:
Somewhat expensive.
