Editorial - Where Will Blogging Go in Coming Years

Published on 6/26/2008

I was reading a great post by interactive marketing and media strategist Adam Broitman about his perspective on the future of the "blogosphere," as some call it. His perspectives, as always are a mix of unpredicted, but also challenging in the good sense of the word.

For instance, Broitman points out that Humans are Greedy by Nature. In that statement, Broitman says that a lot of blogs are built with the hope that they will have economic gain. I don't disagree that there are many blogs that have ads as part of their monetization strategy, but I would offer that it's only one way that people use blogs to make money.

What if you blog about the space you cover, say, upscale realty projects? Perhaps your blog is meant to show your knowledge on the space, as well as your authority on topics that deal with this. These traits will, eventually, translate to money, because people who find and follow your blog (and search engines love blogs as ways of understanding what's relevant) will come away feeling that they know more about you. This, in turn, eases the sales process, and builds a relationship before, during, and after the sale. That's not direct monetizing of a blog, but money might change hands. Is that the same? It's up to you to decide.

Just the same, I feel that Broitman's article is worth a read, and I'd be interested to know your perspective. At CrossTech Media, we feel that blogs are a great way to build business relationships, to share useful information with a larger audience, and a way to lead a potential customer to a stronger sense of comfort, among other topics. What's your take? Feel free to send email to cbrogan@crosstechmedia.com to talk further on this.
