I’ve seen the future of wine retail and its name is Bin Ends.

This new Braintree, Mass.-based wine bargain outlet stocks surplus and discounted bottles. Think Overstock.com meets Filene’s Basement for winos.

The highlight of the open, breezy shop is their final discount bin. The longer a bottle remains in stock, the price gets progressively lower, ranging from 25% to a thirst-inducing 45% discount.

This isn’t some cheap plonk, either. Instead, think high quality extras from some of the world’s finest producers. I bought some wonderful Old World treasures, including a Vieux Chateau Certan Pomerol 1970 at a whopping 50% discount. Wine Spectator gave it 94 points and I walked out with it for just $110. As I left, I thought for sure there had been a mistake and that I was getting away with highway robbery!

The brainchild of partners John Hafferty and Craig Drollett, Bin Ends is the nation’s first offprice wine retailer. The beauty of their business plan is that it’s scalable. It’s easy to imagine a chain of Bin Ends shops.

Combine that deep discount bargain bin with tastings Tuesday through Sunday and you’ve got a compelling reason to drop by every day.

If you live within 25 miles of the shop, they’ll even deliver.

I certainly agree with you. I have been to Bin Ends, and previously reviewed it as well. I think the concept is great and they have a compelling store. They did mention a possible second location in the Woburn/Burlington area which would be very convenient for me. Hell, this is something I might even invest in.
