With the French economy in a state of sustained stagnation, I’m beginning to get the feeling that France may be better served by simply abandoning all forms of agriculture and industry and making synthesiser use compulsory in schools. Controversial sure, but from now on they can play for their food. Synth pop-rockers Fortune are yet another notable moment in the seemingly endless stream of awesome French music we’ve been exposed to over the last couple of years. It’s not revolutionary stuff by any means, but it’s cool, it’s fun and I want it playing at my next summer barbeque. If anyone wants to provide sausages it would be much appreciated. They busted out an EP last year, cannily entitled ‘Fortune’, which features four of their own songs plus varied remixes by Snack & C’mish, M83 (about whom I’ll write more soon) and the mighty Tepr, and it can be picked up from the iTunes Store for fuck all. So, um, go do it. And just to whet your appetite while you wait for the Store to load, here’s the lead tune ‘Bully’ and M83’s suprisingly dancey take on ‘Mission’.
Looking forward to a proper album and/or and Australian tour in the not too distant future. Failing that, possibly just a back massage. Not necessarily from Fortune. Any takers?
