Written by Allan Brewer · July 21, 2008
Team Penske’s Ryan Briscoe won the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course after a rain-soaked Indy Lights field survived a deluge that saw the race-leader pit prior to the checkered flag and surprised Aussie driver James Davison emerge with the win.
Briscoe beat out Helio Castroneves at the 2.258 mile road course after building a commanding lead over the IndyCar series field.

A wild and wet Indy Lights race produced one of the most bizarre endings ever when race-leader Jonny Reid of Integra Motorsports inexplicable pulled off the track on the last lap, a few hundred yards from the checkered flag, and forfeited his sure win in the rain to a stunned James Davison in the Sam Schmidt Motorsports machine.

Reid explained that his radio malfunctioned during the heavy rains that preceded and accompanied the race, which in tandem with a last lap yellow and safetycar appearance on the racing circuit, led him to believe the race was over from approximately one quarter of a mile short of the actual start/finish line.

I’m pleased to see that Ryan has re-established his AOW career with Penske, there were never any doubts about his road racing skills, but his previous reputation on the ovals was terrible.
