Is Feedburner pissed that we used the Feed Flare name for this site.

Posted on February 23rd, 2008 by Collin in Feed Flare

Well after I have left two comments on the new burning questions blog post I have noticed neither one has been approved, or they have been removed from the comment section. Feel free to confirm that by looking in the comment section by clicking here , one comment was left by Collin, the other by Feed Flare.

Why would Feedburner be pissed off?

Well, this is only my opinion but as most of your know, feed flare is a service they provide to enhance your feed with social networking sites to try and assist bloggers in growing there sites when a reader decided to submit a post to there favorite social site. This is a great feature, even though I am not sure how many bloggers really use it to its full potential. If you have ever submitted a post using any of the feed flare features let me know, I am just wandering.

I think, and have always wandered what would happen if I was able to surpass Feed Burner in the search results for there own service called Feed Flare. Right now with me being at the number 2 spot I wander if they have even noticed that I am there yet. I think they have to be honest with you, lets face it Feedburner is Google and Google is Feedburner. Like how do you think Google would feel if your blog had more authority then they did for there own service.

So here is what I am thinking is really going on, or at least hope is going on.

What I think happened in there recent burning questions blog post is they made it, responded to a few comments and just left it hanging there. Feedburner and there burning questions blog has never been the focal point of there business. Providing a great service for RSS feeds has been and that’s what we all want them to focus on, not there blog. But then again, why post at all or even have a blog if your going to leave it hanging. All I would do is have a news letter then, and email it to your subscribers that way you don’t have to spend time managing comments you really don’t want to interact with. The comments I left were nice ones, in one I welcomed them back and asked if they had any type of affiliate program, but I used my sites name as the comment name and I guess it would look confusing to readers to see a comment from Feed Flare. The next was from my name, but it was still linked to this site.

If Feedburner does not have the time to post, or the ambition to post why would they not want someone else in the blogsphere helping bloggers with there service, if needed?

I really hope my comments were not pulled in spite of what I we are building here with this site. I think that would be very silly of them and childish. I love Feedburner and the service they provide in the blogsphere. But I will admit one thing, using the Feed Flare name was something I did think of and I did pick it for a reason.

Time will tell how this is going to play out, what do you think the outcome is going to be. Should Feedburner and the burning questions blog even care I am out here?

Interesting and readable as always from you Collin. I like your way of building authority in Blogsphere and this blog is an excellent example. Keep up the good work!

I’m sure they know, and considering Google I’d be a little careful. It seems the name is Trademarked.

Hey Dennis, it is not a trademarked name. Feed Burner is though. Besides, if they were so worried about, all the dot ca’s, org,s etc would of been signed up for or registered. At least you would assume so anyways.

There is a TM next to feedflare in the optimize section.

Perhaps this is new? Ironically, it’s the only TM I see.

First off, from a personal perspective, Feedburner offers crappy support and doesnt look at their blog, I have heard that in a few forum. People go there to get their feed questions answered and they dont reply. So this tells me they dont use the blog or their forum for support (they dont care?)
I think you’ve got big brass balls though. I was almost going to say using their name. is it really their name? Did they trademarks it?
Its like the apple and intel war a while back intel tried to use apple for the use of the letter I as in Ipod. Intel said they owned that letter? how can you own a letter.
I suppose the worst that could happen to you is that they disable your feedburner account?
Be interesting to see what if anything comes out of it

    @ Shane

Well your right, it seems that as soon as a Company gets taken over from the big “G” service drops. But hey, I am not to worried about. There is a lot of places to burn a feed but they should keep in mind that all I have done, is targeted a keyword properly as I do not provide anywhere close to the service they have. Hell, when I talk about Feed Flare, a service they have…..I tell people how great it is and to make sure they use it.

    Last point
There is over 100 million blogs that are active….they burn feeds for 1.4 million…..they do not hold a very large market anyways so someone working with them should be a blessing.
