Consecutive home games against Duke and Virginia as well as a BB&T Classic meeting with Virginia Commonwealth are among the highlights of Maryland’s basketball schedule, which was released yesterday.

The Terrapins, who are coming off a 25-9 season and a trip to the second round of the NCAA tournament, will open Nov. 11 against North Florida at Comcast Center in the regional round of the CBE Classic.

However, the most anticipated game is probably Duke’s visit on Jan. 27, the eve of the start of the spring semester in College Park. Virginia, which beat Maryland twice last season, arrives at Comcast three days later. After that, the Terps play six of their last 10 on the road.

Maryland’s ACC opener is Dec. 9 at home against Boston College. As part of the ACC’s schedule rotation, the Terps will not play host to Georgia Tech, Miami and North Carolina.

Of the Terps’ 12 definitive nonconference opponents, three reached the NCAA tournament (as did potential CBE Classic opponents Michigan State and UCLA). Maryland will play four teams that finished in the bottom 50 of last year’s RPI, according to collegerpi.com.

The Terps already were known to be a regional host in the CBE Classic along with Michigan State, Missouri and UCLA. Those teams could all advance to the tournament finals at the new Sprint Center in Kansas City, Mo., on Nov. 19-20.

The BB&T Classic, which will be a one-day event for the third straight year, will feature a meeting with flashy point guard Eric Maynor and Virginia Commonwealth. The Rams advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament last year.

The lineup of games begins with George Washington vs. Auburn at 2:30 p.m., followed by George Mason vs. East Carolina at 5 p.m. The final game features Maryland vs. Virginia Commonwealth at 7:30 p.m.

Maryland will visit Charlotte on Jan. 5. That game will be played at Charlotte Bobcats Arena, the same site as March’s ACC tournament.
