BALTIMORE (AP) - Baltimore City Council President Sheila Dixon, who will automatically take Mayor Martin O’Malley’s place as mayor once he becomes governor, says she plans to run for a complete term.
Dixon spoke this morning at City Hall after a meeting of the city’s Board of Estimates. She says she’s focusing on making the transition from City Council president to mayor.
City Comptroller Joan Pratt also says she’s interested in running for mayor, a race that could include a number of other candidates. She says she’s convening an exploratory committee this month.
Dixon will step in as mayor when O’Malley officially becomes governor in January. O’Malley’s term as mayor ends in December 2007. She says she wants to move the city forward as seamlessly as possible. Dixon says she hopes to meet with O’Malley this week to talk about the transition.
