Eidos Announces DS Exclusive Gauntlet Remake
Publisher Eidos has announced that it will be bringing Midway's classic arcade title Gauntlet to the Nintendo DS in Summer of 2008, developed by Backbone Entertainment (Death Jr.) and featuring online play and VoIP chat.
Eidos promises the title will feature both competitive and co-operative online play, with a story mode campaign covering 40 maps in three realms that allows up to four players to "defeat swarms of demons and skeletons and clear a path to victory."
The game will also feature ranked multiplayer games including Death Match, Team Death Match and Treasure Hoard game modes on 16 maps.
Said Eidos executive sales VP Robert A. Lindsey, "Eidos is proud to revitalize the iconic Gauntlet franchise from Midway by offering a totally revamped iteration of the classic multiplayer action RPG to the Nintendo DS. Gauntlet pushes the technology behind the DS by introducing VoIP as well as offering gamers an in-depth competitive multiplayer experience never before explored in the Gauntlet universe."
