Gardiner, Maine – March 21, 2008 - Blue Marble Geographics (www.bluemarblegeo.com) announces their flagship data conversion tool, the Geographic Calculator, maintains a direct tie-in to the International Association of Oil & Gas Producers (OGP) online European Petroleum Survey Group (EPSG) Web Registry Service (WRS).
Direct support of the OGP WRS Registry, which is used as a standard for the Oil & Gas Exploration industry, allows enterprises to update information when they need to, online in real time. Blue Marble’s coordinate conversion technology is used worldwide by thousands of GIS analysts at software companies, universities, oil and gas companies, civil engineering, surveying, technology, enterprise GIS groups, government and military organizations.
The OGP registry follows the Open Geospatial Consortium’s Catalogue Service specification using an EBRIM data profile. This returns the basic objects as GML, which Blue Marble moves into the Calculator to create local versions of these online objects. This same data model can be used to create local custom databases that contain proprietary systems. Thus, organizations can create their own localized Authority Factory that can be directly queried by the Geographic Calculator. This enables organizations that use the Geographic Calculator to create and manage secure, fast, and broadly available proprietary geodetic registries.
“As a member of the OGC, Blue Marble is embracing support for specifications such as the CSW,” stated Blue Marble President Patrick Cunningham. “When these specifications are put into use as tools to manage proprietary geospatial data, administrators can institute higher quality data definition and transformation models across their organization. When they are used in an open format like the OGP Web Registry they elevate the work of all GIS users.”
Geographic Calculator utilizes GeoCalc.XML, the largest and most comprehensive data source available. 7.0 features many enterprise collaboration tools that enable and enhance geodetic data manipulation across organizations. These tools included improved datasource delivery, security improvements, administrative tools, database read and write, and an extension to ArcGIS.
