I can clearly remember taking the Presidential Physical Fitness Test when I was in elementary school. I remember working my way through a battery of tests including sit-ups, pull-ups, a stretching test, and some kind of endurance run.

I can’t honestly remember how I ranked with my peers as a kid, but now as an adult I get another chance to test my fitness level thanks to a new adult fitness test being introduced by the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports.

Your first question might be “Why take a fitness test as an adult?”. The activities featured in the adult fitness test will provide a way for you to estimate your level of aerobic fitness, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility and your body composition. The results can then provide you with a baseline measurement from which you can track your progress in a fitness program.

The adult version of the Presidential Fitness test includes four different tests:

1. The Aerobic Fitness Test includes a 1 mile walk and a 1.5 mile run.
2. The Muscular Strength & Endurance Test includes a half-sit-up test and a modified-push-up test.
3. The Flexibility Test includes a sit and reach test.
4. Body Composition Test is a Body Mass Index (BMI) calculation.

The adult fitness test is for people aged 18 and older who are in good health. Make sure you are healthy enough for testing. Use the Participation Screening Questionnaire to find out if you are ready for testing.
