Eclipse T-shirts at JavaOne

It has become a tradition to give out Eclipse t-shirts at JavaOne and this year is no different. We are able to make this happen thanks to the sponsorship of 18 companies, including Actuate, Adobe, AvantSoft, BEA, Business Objects, CodeGear, Intel, IONA, Klocwork, Motorola, Oracle, Parasoft, Prosyst, SAP, DevZuz, Sybase, Teamprise and TIBCO.

To get a t-shirt, we are doing a passport game, so you will have to visit seven of these companies to collect a stamp and then come get a shirt at the Eclipse booth. I hope this year’s t-shirt design passes a review by our community fashion critic.

Eclipse T-Shirt for JavaOne

Looking forward to seeing everyone at JavaOne and the Eclipse party on Wednesday night. btw, we also still have JavaOne passes for the exhibit hall so if you want a pass let us know.

  1. Bill,

The Foundation doesn’t exist to make money, but to help others make money… So *someone* should sell Eclipse t-shirts online….

  2. It’s also good to note that the quality of Eclipse swag has greatly improved since Ian stared getting feedback from other Foundation staff. Our sense of fashion is second to none 😉 zx will be thrilled with these beautiful new t-shirts!

  3. no vendor logos. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wednesday is going to be hard. i have a green tech thing, invites to google party, and eclipse. sheesh.

  4. After JavaOne we will look at trying to set something up to sell t-shirts, especially if people like the design.

James, this year we did decide to leave off the vendor logos. We just had too many to fit on the shirt 🙂

  5. I wasn’t suggesting that you should try to make a profit off selling t-shirts. I would just like to have one and if someone would send me one for free, that would be great, but I don’t expect it.

If you have the ability to sell t-shirts online, you could funnel the money back into the community – more eclipse.org server capacity, awards to top contributors, etc.

PS – Kids sizes would also be appreciated. Gotta train them early, lest someone give them a free Visual Studio shirt. 🙂

  6. Nice shirt! This is a huge improvement over the one I got at EclipseCon 2006.

I second Bill’s suggestion. If someone at the Eclipse foundation had some extra time it would be great t set up a CafePress site and funnel any money made off merchandise sales back into the community or just sell merchandise at cost. I think it would be hard for someone other than the foundation to create and sell shirts with the Eclipse logo – unless the Eclipse logo is EPL or something similar like the code. (However, I really don’t want to get the foundation into the merchandising business as I think you’ve all got enough to do.) If this isn’t possible I’ll be selfish and ask how can I get one of these shirts given that I’m not going to be at JavaOne?
