United Nations Declares War on Piracy

From the AP.
The Security Council has unanimously authorized nations to go ashore in Somalia to fight piracy.

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was on hand Tuesday to lead the push for approval of the U.S.-sponsored resolution in the 15-nation council.

To gain passage, the U.S. and other proponents had to appease Indonesia and several other council members concerned about national sovereignty.

The resolution authorizes nations to use "all necessary measures" by land or sea in Somalia to stop anyone using Somali territory to plan or carry out piracy. Nations must get permission from Somalia's government.
Meanwhile, 2 more ships hijacked.

Given the speed here, I wonder if there is a specific target the Bush administration has in mind that has caused all this urgency.
