Carra: “Lazio atmosphere great”

Published by Zac Lee Rigg on August 12, 2008

More than 43,000 fanatic Liverpool fans showed up for the preseason friendly versus Italian side Lazio. Jamie Carragher takes it as a signal of the support to come in the upcoming campaign.

“It always gives us a boost to play in front of our own fans,” he told the offish site.

Such good support before the competitions even begin bodes well for the upcoming year, and the Liverpool vice-captain is eager to enjoy the intimacy of Anfield while he still can.

“I have been here a long time now and played at Anfield many times. I know one day we are going to have to move, but that will be a difficult day because this is such a special place to play football.

“Even though it was a pre-season friendly against Lazio it was a great atmosphere and long may that continue into the season.”

The support is in place, and now Carra and his teammates look set to provide their part on the pitch.

“It is easy to switch from friendlies to competitive games, we have to do it every year after pre-season, but we do treat pre-season games as important. We said before the Lazio game that that was our first game, really. It was a full house against a top-class side.

“Every pre-season is pretty much the same, all about getting the fitness ready for that first game. You can’t judge how it has gone until you’ve played the first couple of games of the season. If we start well, we’ll say we had a great pre-season; if we don’t, we’ll look at it the other way.”

    “fanatic”

Fans who boo their own players, sing Man United songs and act like complete knobs.

    Not our regular support.
