No to “Tropic Thunder”
Today’s tackle is the most important thing I’ve tackled since joining Tackle it Tuesday at 5 Minutes for Mom.
I’m helping to spread the word regarding a nationwide boycott of the movie Tropic Thunder. There is a comprehensive article HERE explaining what the movie is about, there are quotes from the chairman of the Special Olympics and other places you can visit for more information.
Tropic Thunder is an R-rated film starring Ben Stiller. Stiller’s character uses the word retard, repeatedly throughout the movie.The film openly ridicules people who are intellectually disabled and is blatant hate speech. The tag line of the movie "Once Upon a Time there was a retard…." was removed from promotional material after complaints were received.
Rolling Stone says "Tropic Thunder will blow your mind." They aren’t going to get the chance to blow my mine, the TV promotion already has, and not in a good way.
This is a Dreamworks film and I ask you to consider being a part of what is shaping up to be the largest boycott since the Passion of the Christ and will most likely be unprecedented.
I am passionate about respecting my teen and tween sons and even more so about respecting my husband. Our men have a hard enough time in the world today, without paying $9.50 to be confused over what top entertainment icons deem culturally acceptable.
Say "no" to Tropic Thunder on your date night,and please, tell your sons "no" to seeing this hateful movie. Better to spend a Dark Knight than to be part of the darkness Dreamworks and Ben Stiller so easily tout.

I think this movie might be a flop due to this. It just surprises me that these popular influential actors did not realize what this portrays. Sad. Last time I checked, you have only one ride on this earth, make it a good one!
That is sad that ignorance is still so pervasive in today’s world. We won’t be watching this movie.

NOt a fan of Ben Stiller at all, so won’t be seeing it at all. His films are usually crude.

You picked quite a task for today. I was actually looking forward to this movie until I found out about this. For our date night this week we will be going to see The Mummy 3.

I hadn’t even heard of this movie, but now that I have, count me in. I think it’s a shame what some consider to be entertainment.
