Landis, Carpenter and Cronenberg Talk Horror

Fear on Film OpeningI was doing research for another post from earlier today when I stumbled on an interesting roundtable discussion between horror masters John Landis, John Carpenter and David Cronenberg. I can’t find any other information on the show other than to note that it appears to be some sort of TV or special that I can’t find a listing of anywhere. If it weren’t for the video proof, I doubt anyone would know it even exists.

From the projects they’re discussing and the little information I can find, this dates back to 1982. Landis discusses An American Werewolf in London, John Carpenter is on about The Thing and David Cronenberg shares insights into Videodrome. It’s a really interesting discussion about effects and you get a real sense of camaraderie from the directors talking about each other’s projects. To boot, they share some thoughts on ratings and, not too surprisingly, they echo the problems that some film makers still face today.

Check out the great discussion, in three parts, after the jump!
