I've Been Endorsed By The United Auto Workers

(Congrats DJ, a longtime MichLibber and staunch Democrat! - promoted by Eric B.)

Photobucket

Hey everybody.  Just wanted to give an update on my campaign status. (DJ is running for Oakland County Commissioner -- Eric B.)

Just recently I was endorsed by the United Auto Workers, Region 1.  I'm very honored to receive the endorsement.  Unlike Obama, it doesn't necessarily put me in the bag for election, but it helps.  We still have a lot of work to do to achieve victory in November.

I'm still looking for donations, so please give anything you can, whether it be $10, $50, $100, or $5,000,000 (through 10,000 of your closest friends:)).  Every little bit will help purchase signs, bumper stickers, campaign literature, and newspaper ads.  Thanks!

Great job DJ! (4.00 / 3)
You're going to do a great job.  :)

Do stupid people know they are stupid?

I'm curious (4.00 / 1)
1) Besides having "D" in front of the name, what makes you think you'll do better than your opponent Tom Middleton?  I know you don't have his overall experience, but do you have any particular operational experience?  Do you have some stand of local interest that your opponent does not (e.g. are you particularly for or against merging Independence Township with Clarkston?).

2) What policy differences put you in contrast with L. Brooks Patterson, who most would argue is the favorite to win as the county executive?

3) Is there an intent to communicate this on your election website?  I notice that it's currently colored so as to make one think you're a Republican unless you happe to be able to read the words "proud Democrat".  :)

And congrats, BTW (4.00 / 1)
No, I didn't mean to come across as grilling you.  I just got caught up on your saying how you weren't a shoo-in like Obama and started framing your candidacy in the context of "change vs. experience" in my head...  ;)

Feels more like a skewing:). (4.00 / 3)
1. I not only have a D in front of my name, but also I have 2 D's in my name.  This gives me 3 D's to the 2 that are owned by Tom Middleton.  So if you're going by the letter D, my superior number of D's is more than sufficient!

But on the issues, Tom Middleton said he believes that there shouldn't be restrictions on when someone should become a lobbyist after leaving office.  I believe it should be a year.  Tom Middleton has also spoken publicly against creating a public transportation system.  His defense is that it's too costly, but the money we put into the project will create jobs.  He was also against the Democratic plan to create more transparency in our county government by holding our meetings at night.  Eventually the board compromised on having 4 meetings a year held at night, but that's not good enough.  Most people work when the day meetings are taking place.  People need to know what's going on, so they should have the option of attending a meeting if they wish.  If you check my website, you'll see that I have some ideas that Middleton hasn't even thought of proposing, such as a "scared smart" program, fighting people who want to hurt small businesses through rent gouging, and giving funding for veterans in our county to attend OCC free of charge.

2. Mayor Brenda Lawrence is my favorite to win:).  She has issues that contrast to Patterson, that you can read here.  But since I'm not running against Patterson...

3. You're the first person ever to accuse me of trying to be Republican-lite!:)  Was the anti-establishment message on my home page not enough for you?:)  Did my attack on the idea of "free-market ideology" seem to conservative?:)  Have Republicons got a monopoly on the color red or the American flag?:)  C'mon, if I was trying to hide that I was a Democrat, I sure wouldn't be screaming "PROUD DEMOCRAT FOR 4TH DISTRICT"!

Personally, have you ever read my blog posts?  Have I ever come across as too centrist?  I'm a liberal, through and through!

Putting conservatives in charge of our government makes about as much sense as GM hiring a CEO who hates cars.

Correction... (0.00 / 0)
Public transportation was meant to say "mass transit".  Big difference.

Double Ds for the win! (0.00 / 0)
My point was that there wasn't much contrast on your website where it was obvious to someone who doesn't know the local politics that it was contrast.

For example, I saw how you want to have meetings at night.  But, it wasn't clear that Middleton opposed transparency.

I mention L. Brooks because I was kinda hoping to see "Tom Middleton voted with L. Brooks Patterson 9x% of the time to expand sprawl into stupid places."  :)

It seems like you want to draw more of a direct contrast with your opposition.  I suspect there's a lot of local folks who don't know these issues at all.  If they don't know there's a problem with the current crop, they won't be motivated to vote the bums out.  That's especially true with local poltiics.  Heck, I bet most folks don't even know what county district they're in.  :)  Most folks aren't reading Spinal Column.

Trust me...  I don't mean to accuse you of any Republican lite, but I was surprised when I finally got around to looking at it and my first reaction was "that's, uhhh,  red".  :)

The words "Proud Democrat" (4.00 / 4)
are right up at the top of the page, on every page...

and it's not an in-your-face Republican Red -- it's more of an honest, hard-working brick red :-)

Congrats, man! (4.00 / 4)
This is huge, and you completely deserve it.
