Granny's Biscuit Recipe

Sadly, I didn't win the laptop during Family Eden's Cutest Pet Contest and my team didn't win the Super Bowl-yes I rooted for the Cardinals-so I'll have some comfort food to lift my spirits! One of my favorite foods is homemade biscuits. I LOVE biscuits.

My recipe originates from hubby's granny but she was kind enough to share it shortly after we married! Her recipe is so easy, I immediately thought Biscuits for Dummies, after talking with her! I don't buy canned biscuits anymore because these are so simple to make. The recipe measurements are ESTIMATES. This is not the typical biscuit recipe requiring precise measurements to get the perfect biscuit. She uses Self Rising flour to simplify the process & I get perfect biscuits every time by following these guidelines.

Ingredients

2 cups Self Rising Flour

2 tbs Sugar

3 tbs Shortening

1/4 cup Milk

Directions

Preheat oven to 400. With a fork or whisk, stir together your dry ingredients. Cut in shortening till it looks like coarse rock salt. You may need to use more shortening but start with 3 tbs. Stir in enough milk to bring dough together. Again, start small then add as necessary. Flour hands so dough doesn't stick. Grab a small handful of dough, form into a ball, place in ungreased pan. Place biscuits about 1/4 inch apart and bake till tops are slightly golden. Size of biscuit and moisture of dough effects baking time.

Jenn's Tip: If you get dough to wet, then either use a spoon for drop biscuits or add flour to bring it to right consistency to roll or cut out biscuits.
