Badal seeks package for border areas in Punjab
Jun 11th, 2008 | By Vikas Jaatyan | Category: Chandigarh, PunjabChandigarh: Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal will meet union home minister Shivraj Patil and seek special package for better education, health and roads, besides sewerage, water supply and power in areas bordering Pakistan.
Harcharan Bains, media adviser to the CM, said a report on development ventures for the border blocks, would be submitted to the Centre. Badal would also press for compensation to farmers whose land was being used by the BSF or other security forces for defence purposes.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister today approved a Rs 151.64-crore plan for Valtoha block in Amritsar district at a meeting held in this connection.
The Chief Minister has also asked the deputy commissioners of the border districts to prepare a plan for the rehabilitation of border area people. This will include bestowing ownership rights on farmers and tillers of the government land they have been cultivating over the years.
