30 Days: Minimum Wage

I watched Morgan Spurlock's 30 days of making minimum wage. I will admit that I was annoyed at first, but then I realized how hard it must be to make ends meet at a minimum wage job.

I laughed when Spurlock was looking for free activities in Columbus, Ohio. I also teared up when I saw their hospital bills. The health care industry is ridiculous and unchecked. It's hard for me to stomach the ridiculous expenses of simple things like ace bandages. In order to avoid a rant, I will just end my discussion here.

I am always curious to see how people who have never lived on minimum wage portray the experience. I had mixed feelings about Barbara Ehrenreich's "Nickel and Dimed," too. Sometimes I just think it's too hard for people to "get" minimum wage when they know there is an end to the experiment.

Thankfully I haven't had to survive with a minimum wage job. The few jobs I've had with minimum wage pay I still lived with my mother. But I do agree that it is hard for a single person to live on minimum wage today.

And please let's not even go into the healthcare. I'm still amazed at how big of an issue it is and yet the government hasn't taken any steps in improving the healthcare system.

I haven't seen the show yet, though I plan to. Do you mind sharing why you were annoyed at first?
