(ALBANY, Ore. ) - Woody the Duck, the floating 6-foot, 350 pound replica of a male duck made of polyurethane foam, was removed from Waverly Lake, located just off of Pacific Blvd, over the weekend by his owner Mike Briggs from Albany.

Albany Parks and Recreation Director Ed Hodney says he is going to recommend to the park commission on Wednesday that Woody be decommissioned because the bird, which had been floating on the lake since 1984, has been damaged and tarnished by winter storms, and bird droppings.

Hodney says he talked with Briggs last week about his plans for Woody, and he said Briggs planned on fishing it out of the lake later this spring.

However, Woody will not be allowed to return to the lake, unless Briggs comes up with a long term plan on maintaining the ducks appearance.

The commission meets at 6:00 PM Wednesday in the Calapooia Room at City Hall.
